Absolutely agree with *Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remasters (alongside "Trails" games of course),* but I'm surprised you skipped on *Sea of Stars* in this list? Why? :'(
Hard to put in to words, but Sea of Stars didn't do much for me on the demo. I think it'll still be good, but there's just something in that session that didn't pop out at me, maybe the demo was just too short to get a proper look in.
@@TheKisekiNut I think the developers really didn't want to spoil any major plot points, which is why that demo felt "unsatisfying" from a story perspective (the combat/boss battle aspect was great though). @@TheInfinityMaster1 Indeed, they redacted elements for spoiler purposes. I just wanted a bit 'more' though from the demo, like maybe an extra hour to get a proper feel for it.
There are JRPG games that i looking forward play this year which is atelier ryza 3 and trail into reverie, atelier maria is also on my list but i am not sure if i able to play this year. I have forgot about eternight and i add it to my wish list. I am looking forward for Ys X, i will be wait for English version but I think it is a silly idea to give Adol a ship giving his history with boat.
I’m looking forward to Octopath 2, which I recently picked up on a flash sale. I really liked 1, but didn’t finish as the motivation and story was lacking. Glad the sequel has addressed that. Deca Police and Raincode has also really caught my interest. And of Course any and all Trails games 😂 (Still have to play Zero first though… 😅)
2023 is a promising year regarding video games: FFXVI, Trails to Azure, Trails into Reverie, Sea of Stars, Decapolice, Ys X, Eiyuden Chronicles, Suikoden Remasters, Granblue Fantasy, and (possibly) FFVII Rebirth. 🙂
Eternights and Loop8 are unironically my most anticipated games this year. They just look super cool, and I'm so down for another action Persona (the former)!
Really looking forward to all of these (except FF7 Rebirth because I just did not get on with the Remake). My poor wallet! Reverie is the main highlight though. I haven't played it with the spreadsheet so will be going in blind and I cannot wait!
I mean I am looking forward to it, but the demo didn't do much in terms of 'popping' in my eyes. I wouldn't say it lowered my expectation, but these games just do way more for me.
I don't think so, Loop 8 and Eternights look and sound very distinct to me. Different gameplay styles, different art direction - the premise is slightly similar, but the resulting ambience the worlds take on feels completely separate between the two.
Eternights, Loop 8, Suikoden and Eiyuden Chronicle are the games I am most looking forward to. Combined with all of the other JRPGs in my backlog, I'll not want for gaming entertainment this year.
I'm looking forward to Trails into Reverie, Suikoden Remasters, FF7 Rebirth, FFXVI, Stellar Blade, Nayuta Boundless Trails, and possibly Granblue Fantasy Relink. Ys X looks cool but it's only coming to Japan this year.
SUIKODEN 1 & 2. YES PLEASE. To this day both are two of my favorite rpgs (not just jrpg) of all time since NES rpgs until now. Highly suggest both games. I'd also like a release of BoF 1&2 // 3&4 perhaps two dual games like the Suikoden release. Also Parasite Eve 1&2, Xenosaga (but expanded further).
I definitely waiting for Ys X Nordics & Trails into Reverie Ys X Nordics takes a different path compared to the other Ys games, and even though i'll miss the Party Member System, i'm interested to try the Ys X Nordics system As for the Trails into Reverie, it's nice to see Lloyd and Rean again, definitely will try it when i get the chance Falcom games rarely disappoint with their games, so i'm sure these 2 games will entertain the players too
Thank you so much (once again) for this overview. 🙂 *Ys X* The hottest one - for me of course - is "Ys X". *Trails into Reverie* Definitely buying "Trails into Reverie" ... but first I need to finish "Trails of Cold Steel 1" ... and "2" ... and "3" ... (cough)! *Master Detective Archives Raincode* Yes, please. *Final Fantasy VII Rebirth* This is the one I will definitely not buy. I was so disappointed by the first game, which resulted in one of the very few rage-quits in my life.
Honestly apart from Reverie and Eiyuden, my most anticipated game is the fan translation of Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, yeah is not a rpg but I been wanting to play for ages now
If you're reading this KN, I was wondering if you are fluent in Japanese? You mentioned playing Hajimari no Kiseki two years ago when it was newer, so I figured you must be able to read and understand the language.
While I can understand a fair bit of the language now, I'm not at the level where I could play one of these games through to the end. I used the Zerofield overlay which unfortunately is no longer available to us anymore.
@@TheKisekiNut ok gotcha. That seems like a very labor intensive and frustrating way to play a Trails game. I admire your dedication to the series going through that much trouble to play one of the games, but I bet the total experience suffered because of it. I played Zero no Kiseki well before the wonderful Geofront translation was done, and even though I could understand what was going on, it wasn't the best way to play the game. The best part of the series is the story and characters and playing a roughly translated script left a lot of spelling, grammatical errors, and stiff language that felt unnatural and took away from the conversational flow of the dialog. I think (based on no actual knowledge since I haven't played it) that if you replay Hajimari/Reverie with the official English translation that you will have a greater appreciation for the game than playing using a preliminary overlay. When I went back and replayed the official Zero no Kiseki I had a lot more enjoyment than the rough patched version from several years ago.
@@acidwizard6528 Not really, the overlay was similar to having a subtitled experience on rails. I played CS4 like that, and it ended as my second favourite in the series, so they didn't really take away from the experience.
@@TheKisekiNut That's not what I expected. I would have thought it would affect enjoyment to have to refer to the overlay time and time again. How do you interact with the hundreds of NPCs that have bits of world building dialog, and or inane banter to make the story more interesting?
Most Ys games aren't, but they all take place in the same world. The only real difference is that this is a very early adventure, just after Ys 1 and 2 which I think is great.
I really hope that NISA and Falcom are putting a lot of effort into getting Ys X Nordics brought to the West sooner than later. Waiting until late in 2024 is ridiculous...
Definitely excited for Atelier Marie Remake as well as Ryza 3 coming this week. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and XVI I'm very much looming forward to as well. I want to get into both the Trails and Ys series so I wanna know what's the best way to start both series, I know I heard I can start with Ys VIII without playing the first Ys games
You should also take a look at Honkai: Star Rail. It's a gacha/service game, but with turn-based combat that strongly resembles Trails (break system, ultimates similar to S-Crafts). Even the story and execution screams "Trails", including the atmosphere and lifelike NPCs. Release is on April 26. Oh what I forgot: Mihoyo (the developer of Star Rail and Genshin) are apparently currently in talks with Falcom as well. Quite possible that there will be a collaboration in the future.
Well - Without doubt my most anticipated games are Trails Into Reverie, Atelier Marie Remake and Ys X. Crymachina has my full attention too. Of course the first game to be released within a few weeks, an that has my full attention is Atelier Ryza 3. I also looking forward to The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails that will be released fall this year. Sadly a few games that I would love to play will not be released on the PC platform, and that's a shame. Maybe we PC gamers will see a port of those at some time in the future. Who knows?
Just got Octopath 2 and that's a blast so far. Never played the first one. Going to be playing all the FF Pixel Remasters on PS5 starting on April 19th to prepare for FFXVI, which I'm hoping will be great regardless of the combat. I have no interest in giving Square money for their neverending VII milking shenanigans though. I'll look into some of the others you mentioned. I'm several console generations behind so I have a couple decades worth of stuff I haven't played.
My games you show here, which i want buy are Eternights, Loop 8, FFVII Rebirth; Eiyuden Chronicles; Trails into Reverie and Ys X Nordics, also the other games are nice or ok, but for this i need more time/money, cause there also other game genres, where i like to buy a game.
I would love it if you try out Witch Spring series. The first game started out on android. It have a very charming story although the English translation is not that good since it came from korea. You can skip the first game or wait for the steam remake version. Witch Spring 1 and 2 are only available on android and ios. 3 and 4 are on switch and android/ios. Sadly you need to start from at least WS2 since the story are connected. Peace!
Idk if you’ve seen Mato Anamolies. It’s a visual novel style JRPG with turn based combat based in a neo - futuristic setting and it’s pretty cool aesthetically. Would highly recommend checking it out :D
I've seen a few reviews and talked to friends about it (who are also content creators), they're not impressed. So, I'm gonna skip it personally, too many other games catch my eye.
@@creekandseminole ye it’s really been a mixed bags. Everyone’s either really for it or not for it at all. Personally, it looks interesting but I’ll only probably get it once it goes on sale
Dude, this basically my list. I will be playing all of the games you listed, except for Suikoden 1/2 because I already played them on Vita. I will still be buying my copy to support the new remakes. The other game I have on my list is FF XVI. This year is packed great stuff!!
Not to incline the upcoming Gran Blue Fantasy-Game is a big mistake! Nah just joking, 2023 seems to be PACKED with great JRPG-games. It is complete insane.
As some1 who never played the Suikoden series (bc i started late with video games D:) im kinda looking forward to getting the 2 games as test. Ethernights and Loop 8 sounds interesting but ill wait a bit after there release most likely to see what its about. Falcom games we wont need to talk about they will be insta buy
As someone who never tried rpj games before Persona 5 on switch I’m very interested in Loop 8 and it’s non restrictive nature, i would appreciate if someone can recommend great games for characters design or adventure style for casual play, im personally playing P5 strikers soon followed by Xenoblade 2.
Hmm, the JRPG's I'm looking forward to playing this year that share your list are: 1.) Trails Into Reverie, looking forward to experiencing the story and some of the episodes though I am worried since I've heard it's like 3rd which I didn't like very much but hopefully my fears don't come true. I'm also REALLY looking forward to hearing the English cast again and especially the new characters that haven't gotten English voices like the Crossbell characters. 2.) FF7 Rebirth, I really liked FF7 Remake so this one is gonna be a blast for me for sure. I'm not a FF fan per-se but something about the FF7 games like FF7 Remake and FF7 CC just work for me lol 3.) Master Detective Raincode, Made by the Danganronpa team and it'll have an English Dub so those two things are all i need to know to know I'm gonna really enjoy this game lol 4.) Loop8: I like the look of the game and it'll have an English Dub so that's enough for me to give it a try. I am worried about the choices system and doing the 8th month over and over again. Knowing me, I might end up getting the bad endings over and over again lol JRPG's not on your list that I'm excited to play this year are: 1.) Trails to Azure, I finally got to play the Crossbell games for the first time with Zero last year and it was fun. It was nice to see the start of the SSS after playing all the CS games and to see how this arc ends with Trails to Azure is gonna be great. I know some things already due to the CS but that's from a 3rd party perspective so seeing it for myself, and all the other stuff I'm sure will shock and hype me up, will be great! Just a few days to go! So hyped! 2.) The Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection, I LOVED the Megaman Battle Network games growing up, easily my favorite Megaman games(along with Starforce) so to relive these games again now will be so nice. I never played the 1st one so that'll be fun to experience for the 1st time. Funny thing is all my old Megaman Battle Network disappeared somehow so this collection couldn't come at a better time! I'm ready to Jack In as Megaman and Lan once again! So hyped for it! ^_^ 3.) The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, this one I'll get but I don't know if I'll like it or not. I'm not very good at platformers so depending on how difficult the game is will determine if I'll really like it or regret buying it. Pretty much getting this game for the story and characters(and MAYBE connection to Trails if it has any lol). Maybe will get: 1.) Ys X, this one I MIGHT get but hearing it's more exploration than story kinda makes me feel like I won't enjoy this game as much as the others since ironic enough that's my least favorite part of the Ys games lol I liked the stories of Ys 7, 8 and 9(except Celecta, didn't really like that game but that could be due to all the time I had to spend exploring a forest lol) so still not sure if I'll get this one. Maybe I will. I guess, I gotta see more.
I am fully aware the Suikoden remasters might be lazy cash grabs and I don't care, I will chase that particular dragon till the end of my days. So obviously I was a backer for Eiyuden.

FFXVI, Trails to Azure, Trails into Reverie, Sea of Stars, Decapolice, Ys X, Eiyuden Chronicles, Suikoden Remasters, Granblue Fantasy, and (possibly) FFVII Rebirth. 🙂
Suikoden... massive cast... you are very right xD
Eternights and Loop8 are unironically my most anticipated games this year. They just look super cool, and I'm so down for another action Persona (the former)!
They do look interesting! I'm all on board for both of them, though I have a feeling one of them is going to disappoint.
@@TheKisekiNut Which one, out of interest?
@@theultimategamer95 I'm not sure which, I just think that 'one' of them will be lacklustre. If I had to choose though, I'd say Eternights.
Really looking forward to all of these (except FF7 Rebirth because I just did not get on with the Remake). My poor wallet!
Reverie is the main highlight though. I haven't played it with the spreadsheet so will be going in blind and I cannot wait!
really surprised we didnt hear u talk about Sea of Stars. but it just gives me the opportunity to mention it in a comment XD
-Fantasia
I mean I am looking forward to it, but the demo didn't do much in terms of 'popping' in my eyes. I wouldn't say it lowered my expectation, but these games just do way more for me.
The fact that Sea of Stars doesn't make it to the list, it makes me question the list 👀
Don't worry, your life won't end because a content creator isn't excited for a game as much as you are.
I don't know about eternights and loop 8, they feel too similar. Looking forward to crymachina, granblue fantasy relink and Ys X
Can’t wait for FFXVI and Atelier Ryza 3 next week!!
I definitely waiting for Ys X Nordics & Trails into Reverie
Ys X Nordics takes a different path compared to the other Ys games, and even though i'll miss the Party Member System, i'm interested to try the Ys X Nordics system
As for the Trails into Reverie, it's nice to see Lloyd and Rean again, definitely will try it when i get the chance
Falcom games rarely disappoint with their games, so i'm sure these 2 games will entertain the players too
Sad that Eternights not released to switch, looks like an interesting game
Thank you so much (once again) for this overview. 🙂
*Ys X*
The hottest one - for me of course - is "Ys X".
*Trails into Reverie*
Definitely buying "Trails into Reverie" ... but first I need to finish "Trails of Cold Steel 1" ... and "2" ... and "3" ... (cough)!
*Master Detective Archives Raincode*
Yes, please.
*Final Fantasy VII Rebirth*
This is the one I will definitely not buy. I was so disappointed by the first game, which resulted in one of the very few rage-quits in my life.
Honestly apart from Reverie and Eiyuden, my most anticipated game is the fan translation of Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, yeah is not a rpg but I been wanting to play for ages now
3:23 Are we still pretending this FF7 trilogy is a reimagining.
If you're reading this KN, I was wondering if you are fluent in Japanese? You mentioned playing Hajimari no Kiseki two years ago when it was newer, so I figured you must be able to read and understand the language.
He used a translation overlay. He describes the process in his Hajimari video as well as his Crimson Sin vid.
How do you interact with the hundreds of NPCs that have bits of world building dialog, and or inane banter to make the story more interesting?
trails into reverie will be my first trails game
Thank you for your work 😍
Eiyuden also will be so good!
I am waiting really waiting for the release of YS: Nordics. It's sad that its not a sequel but every game YS game I played have a great story so yep.
Most Ys games aren't, but they all take place in the same world. The only real difference is that this is a very early adventure, just after Ys 1 and 2 which I think is great.
Cant wait for master detective💯🙏🏽
wow the moment i saw eternights i decided it all already
I really hope that NISA and Falcom are putting a lot of effort into getting Ys X Nordics brought to the West sooner than later. Waiting until late in 2024 is ridiculous...
Definitely excited for Atelier Marie Remake as well as Ryza 3 coming this week. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and XVI I'm very much looming forward to as well.
I want to get into both the Trails and Ys series so I wanna know what's the best way to start both series, I know I heard I can start with Ys VIII without playing the first Ys games
Great list. I’m looking forward to many of these games too.
Did you not like Octopath 2?
Plus, Sea of Stars currently has a 2023 release date too.
Pretty sure this is for upcoming games not already released ones.
Octopath 2 already released, can't look forward to something that's already been bought!
What?! A Ys game that doesnt look like it was made 30 years ago?! I'm intrigued.
>1st Game
>Dating Sim elements
>Hand can turn into a tentacle
SOLD!
Who knows?
Really you want a remake atelier game over the phenomenal looking atelier ryza 3? O.o
Swap out FF7 for Sea of Stars and this list is perfect. It's a packed year for rpg fans.
Good year for us atelier fans.
Honestly, I'm only waiting for Trails to Azure (which releases soon) and Trails into Reverie.
I never knew that saying JRPG instead of RPG was considered almost like an insult to Japanese developers for quite some time, food for thought
Había olvidado la cantidad de juegos que salen este año.
Los quiero comprar todos.
The game has mixed reviews but also some folks who think it's totally bonkers and might become a cult hit down the line
Missing ff sixteen, added game that won’t have a translation for us in the west hmm hmm ;)
@mushy pretty sure he has an issue with the genre description as a whole, not just with ff16. That said you know what i mean.
If u need a ps5 sonys direct store has them in stock u just need to use ur psn account when buying
Thanks for the heads up! I'll take a look.
@The Kiseki Nut no probs 👌 a lot of people don't know ur guaranteed a console ordering directly from Sony it just might take a lil longer to arrive 😉
Not to incline the upcoming Gran Blue Fantasy-Game is a big mistake! Nah just joking, 2023 seems to be PACKED with great JRPG-games. It is complete insane.
No front mission remake ? I guess you didn't play front mission series. It was great jrpg imo
I got half of the games that I have pre pre order or waiting on
Let's go
As some1 who never played the Suikoden series (bc i started late with video games D:) im kinda looking forward to getting the 2 games as test.
Ethernights and Loop 8 sounds interesting but ill wait a bit after there release most likely to see what its about.
Falcom games we wont need to talk about they will be insta buy
not a jrpg but im looking forward to disgaea 7 and the fixes it looks like it's made since D6
Hmm, the JRPG's I'm looking forward to playing this year that share your list are:
1.) Trails Into Reverie, looking forward to experiencing the story and some of the episodes though I am worried since I've heard it's like 3rd which I didn't like very much but hopefully my fears don't come true. I'm also REALLY looking forward to hearing the English cast again and especially the new characters that haven't gotten English voices like the Crossbell characters.
2.) FF7 Rebirth, I really liked FF7 Remake so this one is gonna be a blast for me for sure. I'm not a FF fan per-se but something about the FF7 games like FF7 Remake and FF7 CC just work for me lol
3.) Master Detective Raincode, Made by the Danganronpa team and it'll have an English Dub so those two things are all i need to know to know I'm gonna really enjoy this game lol
4.) Loop8: I like the look of the game and it'll have an English Dub so that's enough for me to give it a try. I am worried about the choices system and doing the 8th month over and over again. Knowing me, I might end up getting the bad endings over and over again lol
JRPG's not on your list that I'm excited to play this year are:
1.) Trails to Azure, I finally got to play the Crossbell games for the first time with Zero last year and it was fun.
3.) The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, this one I'll get but I don't know if I'll like it or not. I'm not very good at platformers so depending on how difficult the game is will determine if I'll really like it or regret buying it. Pretty much getting this game for the story and characters(and MAYBE connection to Trails if it has any lol).
Maybe will get:
1.) Ys X, this one I MIGHT get but hearing it's more exploration than story kinda makes me feel like I won't enjoy this game as much as the others since ironic enough that's my least favorite part of the Ys games lol I liked the stories of Ys 7, 8 and 9(except Celecta, didn't really like that game but that could be due to all the time I had to spend exploring a forest lol) so still not sure if I'll get this one. Maybe I will. I guess, I gotta see more.
Ys X looks awesome
I am fully aware the Suikoden remasters might be lazy cash grabs and I don't care, I will chase that particular dragon till the end of my days. So obviously I was a backer for Eiyuden.
