It's not just traveling DJs with agents who need to watch out for that trick. When I first started DJing a looooooong time ago I got my first residency offer at this little restaurant that had a lounge attached. The pay for the gig was as low as you can imagine and it was like an 8 hour shift. Sometimes they would book these little private events before the night started and they would hit me up and be like "oh can you come in early, if so we'll throw you an extra $50" (mind you this now makes the night a 10/12 hour shift). Well one week the venue calls me day of an event like oh hey we forgot this was going on, can you come in and we'll pay you an extra $25 since it's last minute. I thought I hit the jackpot (I had no idea what real djs got paid). So at the event the clients start making tons of requests for stuff I didnt have and got really angery (I wasnt even told it was a wedding reception or that there was a list submitte). I got fed up with it and I, rudely, told them that they're lucky I'm here at all and I'm not getting paid enough to have all the stuff they asking for. The client replied "what are you talking about. we paid an extra $900 on top of the venue fee to have a dj play our requests. that should be more than enough to cover a few songs"......yup, I found out that the venue was up charging the customers $800 + to have a DJ and paying me $50 of that to cover the gig. Learned an important lesson that day
‘My Favorite Podcast’ was very resourceful to me in the earlier stages of my career when I had little to no guidance, and is still a great listen today. Excited to see what comes of the agency. Great interview guys
Keeping it 💯, open format, aka hip hop, is code for we don't want a true hip hop crowd. Play the music but not attract the crowd. Promoters and venue owners wanted to be profitable.
Podcast always fumble having konflict on. This dude is ahead of the game, smart, funny and skilled. Hes the perfect dj. This guy crooked came off as condescending, negative and had weird back handed compliments that you can tell konflct was taken back. Crooked whom I've never heard of before this pod puts himself up there with the likes of fourcolorzack, espinosa and konflict. hes far from them and comes off insecure. Its hard to listen to him and he has the most to say
I hated how negative he was towards komflicts dj company. He made a comment about his company name he picked. Then tried to add his own ideas to the company like what bro? Lol
@@kittlekorn8810How is adding in his own ideas negative? Hes speaking from someone with experience starting/running a busniess and I thought his idea came out pretty constructively
@@DjMbezzle he can start his own business. Konflict was on the show to promote his shit. They needed to let him translate it but barely let him speak on
@@Brink33DJ Crooked is well known and respected in the Dj community. He knows quite a bit and has an extensive knowledge of the culture. Dj Crooked is a vet in the game and is Hip Hop. The man speaks nothing but facts quit hatin' g. We do need another interview with Konflikt tho I'm sure he will be back for a 2nd part at another time. Peace and blessings, take care now.
Never seen this podcast before, Really great stuff and I love how KONFLIKT operates as a person. Definitely gonna go check his agency as I'm a highly talented DJ looking for good people to work for and be managed professionally.
Konflict is the man. Thanks for the episode. 🙏🏼
