Shintaro Katsu is one of the greatest actors in history. The stories in the Zatoichi series all have one theme. 1 The scum yakuza abuse the common people, 2 the women are sold into whoredom. 3 Zatoichi kills all the scum to save the innocent simple people. But the acting is so great it saves the value of the program.

One way to make a living in those days would have been to be just follow Zato Ichi in his travels and pick up all the swords, money/valuables, etc. from the men he killed. You would be so rich!
