Any jazzcat that wants to blues up their playing or any bluesman that wants to jazz up their playing should listen to Josh Smith early and often. He seamlessly blends both.
I have to disagree. I think he sounds too busy here. I think Robben Ford's "12 bar blues improv" is more tasteful all round - and arguably more skillfull, if not quite as flash.
Finally worked my way learning through to the end of this after Paul Davids little teaser of the intro...and then I realize not only can he play the whole thing (much better than I) but he literally wrote it - and probably half improvised it! Wow! Kudos to you Josh! nice job, it's hard work to even try and keep up.
Hi Cole! It’s the old fashioned way that’s been used since long before RUclips existed: Play. Listen. Pause. Rewind. Repeat. The better your ear gets, the less guessing and the more, well, ‘hearing’ I guess of the intervals etc. The advantage of RUclips is you can set it to half speed to be able to hear it better on the fast runs.
Felt extremely proud of myself for learning the parts (at half speed) from Paul Davids. Then, I came here and discovered it was simply Josh's opening 12 bars and he was just warming up. SMH
I’m Here because of Paul Davids breaking this solo guitar down, and now that Collings guitar caught my interests.. I Live in Houston , so I will have to make a road trip to Austin
Hi Malik, Glad to have you here and thanks to Paul Davids for the referral! We've suspended our usual shop tours for the time being due to COVID-19 concerns, but we'd love to have you out to the shop once things settle down. Thanks!
Could you make sheets for this my guitar teacher said that we could learn this if I find the sheets, and thats a miracle cus i play classical guitar, and im bored of all that clasic stuff

Exactly what I was thinking. This guy has vocabulary to learn from, but Ford will show you *how* to play.
Big Josh!! Your vocabulary is amazing❤️🎸
He resolves to every chord like a boss
For me he is the best living blues lead player.
Fantastic player, fantastic guitar!
Josh is the coolest.
that Josh sure know what to do with a guitar:)
tonedr that Dale is pretty handy with his, too! Justin in Indiana
That he does!
damn...this guy is the best in what he does.
That single one dislike is from Gibson!
Like a Les Paul with twang, sounds great
Josh is the best on the planet at doing THIS.
Without a doubt!
I transcribed this out a while ago but have since lost it. Oh boy it’s gonna be a long night.

How did you figure out what he's playing when it itsnt a close-up? Trial and error off the sound?

I feel the same way, still proud tho... 😊
@@lars_1204 I didn't use the tab. I followed the video instruction from Paul Davids
@@PhoShzel75 I see, thats only a small part of the song. (I also came from Paul ;) ). I guess I'll ask my guitar teacher but thx

Paul Davids lesson mentioned above for the first twelve bars
@@neilmarsh7437 thanks! I looking for the full version, if it existed:D
If you are at a level to play this then just slow the video down and watch. You have the tabs right there :) Your ear will help
@@alcurtis93 true! I guess I'll take my time
You don't need them, just slow the video down and learn it!
Does anyone know where to find the tab for this? I've learned the first 12 bars but struggling with the rest.
I did it myself over a couple of weeks but lost it. Did you have any luck?
Do someone know the name of the technics used in 0:54 and 1:35 ?
The name of this technic is ligatos or pull offs
It's called hybrid-picking. A technic of the right hand where you combine the pick and fingers to play notes much faster.
Serious stuff...
Nice! What colour is that 'Paul? Anyone know?
This is our "Dark Cherry Sunburst". Thanks!
The Best! End of story
So, Paul Davids sent me...🤷🏻♂️

Please send Paul Davids that beeeautiful Cherry 'Paul guitar. He will make good use of it I'm sure! Hey, and thanks for uploading btw.
O...M....G.... ))))
Could you make sheets for this my guitar teacher said that we could learn this if I find the sheets, and thats a miracle cus i play classical guitar, and im bored of all that clasic stuff
OleXa I think you’ll have to transcribe it by ear. You can slow down the video to make it easier :)
Somebody knows the BPM?
113 ish?
Is he using major scale in A#?
more or less
Does this have his usual 13 gauge strings on it?
I was curious about that too. That tone just straight into the amp is glorious!
Collings typically come set up with 11s as standard. So in Josh’s hands they probably feel like 8’s do for me. Ha
What AMP are you using here, please?
He's using a 1966 Fender Vibrolux.
00:58
Is the plastic still on the pickups?
Yes, but it's cut out around the pole pieces and won't affect the sound. We'll remove them next time :)
Ever feel like just giving up?
At 1:32 I can 'hear' the rest of the band playing.
What guitar IS It, please?
It's a Collings CL: bit.ly/2OubbmM
🤦♂️
Well, shit...
This is not a shuffle groove it is straight a shuffle groove has an underlying triplet beat known as swing
