  • This is a computer rendering (from Sibelius, using NotePerformer) of Saint-Saens' wonderful 3rd violin concerto. I entered this in from his autograph manuscript.
Since I'm currently studying this piece, and I found it has had a bit of a chequered history, I decided to do my own edition of it. I started thinking just to enter the violin solo part from the original autograph manuscript (available on IMSLP), but decided to enter the orchestral parts as well, so then I can play along.
There are several editions. The most popular one (if you look for recordings) is an edition by Emile Sauret. This was an UNSANCTIONED (by the composer) edition, and Saint-Saens was quite angry that even the notes / melody were changed. This in some parts was vamped up a little, and in other parts actually simplified (made easier).
The version I've found that is closest to the original is the Oistrakh edition.
This version is 99.9% original Saint-Saens. I added a couple of notes to the pizz chords at the start of the 3rd movement, and it was such a hassle rendering and exporting video that I can't be bothered to change them back.
I also played with the timings of some of the chords in the solo part to make it a little more realistic. Overall I'm pretty impressed with the stock sound out of NotePerformer when it's processing just a score.
Rendered from Sibelius 2021.2 using NotePerformer 3.3.2, and FabFilter Pro R, and Pro Q3.

Thank you! Yes it took quite a lot of time 🙈. It was sometimes tricky to decipher the original hand-written score
