Thanks so much for all these classic old school Dallas/ Philadelphia games with Pat Summeral and John Madden. The best NFL announcers ever!!! This is football at its best!!! Thank you my friend!!!!
The way that Tom Landry would be eventually let go by Jerry Jones was the beginning of the end of this classic era of the NFL. Fact is most of the roster of the Dallas championship teams was drafted and crafted by one of the most consistent coaches of all time.
Consistent? Seriously? One of the most? Seriously? 20 straight winning seasons, 18 playoff seasons, 12 NFC title games, 5 Super Bowls, 2 NFL Championships... NO coach can match that. They went through 3 complete overhauls during those 20 seasons - the initial build resulting in the 1971 Title, complete rebuild in 74-75, resulting in the 1977 Title, then Danny White replaced the greatest QB of all time, the O-Line was rebuilt, and everything but the front 4 on defense was rebuilt, leading to 3 straight NFC Championship games. They could have won 2 of those, but Montana magic won one, and turnovers cost them the Redskins game. Their first NFC Title game was against GB with Meredith in 1966, then Morton won one, but lost the SB, then Staubach led them to 6, and 2 two SB wins and 2 SB losses, then Danny White took them to 3 NFC Title games, the last one in 1982. In 17 seasons, 12 times you had to beat the Cowboys if you wanted to win a Championship. WOW. Mr Landry is the greatest coach of all time.
As legendary as Landry was his last 5 years wasn't so great, especially the last 3, the nfl changed but Landry didn't change with it,especially the draft
This year, 1981, was the first year John Madden and Pat Summerall teamed up. Prior to this, in 1979 and 1980, Madden worked low-profile contests and was teamed up with announcer such has Vin Scully, Dick Stockton, Frank Glieber, and Gary Bender. In all, Madden was an NFL color commentator for 30 full years, beginning in 1979 and ending in 2009, when he announced his retirement.
As a cowboys fan at 17 yrs old this win was huge against eagles where we swept them and took the division from them after they took the championship from us the year before. Outstanding defense.
I remember this game. As a cowboy fan and down 10-0 at halftime my parents forced me to go to church with them for 5:30 mass. I was 12 and had to listen to them. So instead of listening in church i decided to pray that the cowboys would win. When we returned home it was the 4th qtr and the cowboys were up 21-10. I was happy they won but pissed off that i missed the comeback. From then on i went to church on Saturday with my friend instead of sunday with my parents.
Only Sammy Baugh was a better combo QB/P. Staubach was a much better QB, though. Danny turned the ball over too much, but he was way better than Fouts. I have no idea how they put that guy in the HOF. It's like putting Dave Kingman in the baseball hall.
I was 13 years old. Only football on was Sunday & Monday Night Football. The Sunday (I believe) 4p edt game was the final game of the day. Now we have 4:30 start times that sometimes run into the 8pm SNF start times. MNF, Thursday Night Football. Wow
This was a frustrating stretch for the Dallas Cowboys IMHO. For the 1975 season they lost the Super Bowl to the Steelers as the first Wild Card team to reach the SB. They were champions for the 1977 season but then lost a rematch to the Steelers again for the 1978 season. After the Rams represented the NFC in the SB for the 1979 season in January of 1980 the Cowboys then when on a stretch of losing the NFC Title Game to three different teams, three straight years in a row, Dallas being the visiting team in all three games. This regular season game was the third meeting for these two teams in the calendar year 1981, Dallas having lost the NFC in January of this year earlier and it is mentioned in this telecast a few times. They would go on to lose the NFC Title Game in San Fransisco in January of 1982 for this season and then lose to the Washington Redskins in January of 1983 for the 1982 strike shortened season. A really dominant 8 year stretch by one team with only one championship to show for it, against teams in the NFC that came and went (Philadelphia and Washington) and a team that had just arrived (49ers).
The more I watch these old Eagles games the more I realize Ron was a terrible quarterback. He just threw balls into all kinds of coverage. It didn't matter how many of the other jerseys were in the area. He was brutal.

Really enjoy these broadcasts sans commercials. Both Sumerall and Madden were such great teachers of the game.

Yes and before that it was Tom Brookshire and Pat Summerall. I think they were great together.

How dare they :) !! I know that feeling as a kid. It was like " wait we can't go now - the game is on "
Danny White 62-30 w/l record. Not too shabby
DALLAS COWBOYS FOREVER
I've never seen a good QB and punter like Danny White😁, he was my fav Cowboys Qb

The 1975, 76, 78, 79, 80, 81 and 82 seasons all ended with excruciatingly difficult losses that could have otherwise ended with championships.
1981 Team was probably the best team in NFL NOT to win a Super Bowl.
@@oneputtsteven No argument from me friend!
The Cowboys' finish the regular season at home undefeated for the second consecutive season and the last one until 2023.
Tom Landry was a class act. He could of run up the score but he chosed to have D white knell to end game.
He used to run up the score on the Giants. He had more respect for The Eagles since he knew in 1979 they would be a contender.
@@flexiblestrategist9922 The Giants sucked for the most part all through the 1970's. He never ran up the score, they were just terrible.
Great times. I was a young man with everything before me.
Yup yup same here . Only 10 at that time
I was 8. My life is a struggle right now !! How I wish we could go back !
Swept them in 81😁
Frustrating season for the Eages, defending NFC champs, started 7-1 and then went down the toilet.

The Eagles had great uniforms in this Era.

Eagles defense was stout. Their offense went south.
