  • In anticipation of the forth-coming Open Mic Poetry Night, “Appreciating W.B. Yeats”, (ICC March 6th), in this short film, the poet John Hurley and filmmaker Sé Merry Doyle discuss the importance of poetry in Irish life. John Hurley reflects upon the impact of the great poet W.B.Yeats and he recites a few of his own self-penned poems, one of which so powerfully resonates with what is going on in the World today. Sé shares a clip from his award-winning film “W.B Yeats - The Battle Of Blythe Road” in which we see the gifted poet Niall McDevitt recite Yeats’ beautiful poem ‘The Magi’, on Blythe Road in Hammersmith.
And to mark the 40th Anniversary of Luke Kelly’s passing, Philip Cashin (lead singer of the ICC’s house band “The Sessionists”) sings his own riveting rendition of Patrick Kavanagh’s great poem Raglan Road!
This short film was captured at the recent recording of the ICC’s monthly Irish arts radio show, “Bright Side Of The Road”, Broadcast on Portobello Radio; to hear the full episode or to listen to any of the previous episodes, google www.mixcloud.com/ICCHammersmi...
