Great video, it's some of the best high wind footage I've seen. Some people enjoy racing but my favorite part of sailing has always been hanging on for dear life in a reach in high winds. I remember doing it out on the pipe wings of an old scow Moth I used to own.
OMG! I'm getting this boat. I've been looking for a single hander that I can use to access remote surf spots in Hawaii. Now I know she can handle. THANK YOU! What a blast!
This is totally awesome. Going to get a dinghy sail boat to day in silver Springs NV. To start learning on. Wife and I are 52yrs young an decided to give it a go. Starting small an work our way up
Cahoonas for going for the gybe in strong breeze with the webcam. Curious as to why I see so many aeros using a slack foot in that strength of wind. In a laser, it would be stretched out tight
Doesn't have to cost a lot to get out there and have some real excitement.......you don't need a state-of-the-art £10k boat......you can get an old Laser for peanuts and blast around in the knowledge that if anything breaks it isn't going to have cost you an arm and a leg. Friend of mine picked one up for £50 recently......ok it's old and it's not pretty, but you can still have a LOT of fun
@@XPSailing ya I've been looking around for old boats like used lasers and such but I don't get paid much and there aren't many good cheap used boats in my area.
I own one Aero with the 5 sail and downwind you easily can achieve 20km/h but if you manage well based in my experience I would say that approximately I reached a top Speed of 50 or 60 km/h
@@Intray yep ur right mate, When I wrote that maybe I exaggerated a little cause I was a little bit excited with what the aero can do, but yeah, that speed is mostly unreachable.
I never sailed an Aero but they look similar to a Laser. If you're over 65kgs Lasers are a good choice (they have 3 diff. sizes of rigs), and probably easier to find fleets if you want to race.
@@SAWOK12 i have bought an aero now and they are super fun! Btw the aero also have 3 rig sizes with a fourth one coming soon. Where I live there is an aero/laser fleet that I can sail with we sail together
@@piggolearns5967 Just curious - is there any obvious difference in speed between the Laser and the Aero? Or maybe it depends on conditions/points of sail?
@@SAWOK12 The biggest sail on the laser is the middle sail on aero. The laser also weighs a bit more and is a bit longer. But the aero I would say is faster than the laser.
What is the weight of the sailor? We have similar weather tomorrow in Poland and i'm wondering if 9 won't be too much of a handful for a 90 kg of a sailor :)
Clicked for what I thought would be a good vid, commented and left before finishing because of the club music. The wind, the waves, and your boat going through the water would have made for a very good soundtrack.
I've been a dinghy and cat sailor for 43 years and still sail a full rigged Laser at 53yo. 35-40 knots? Don't believe it. Not for one second. In 35-40 knots 90% of the sail would be inside out and you would be trying to get drive off a couple of square feet at the clew. They are great sailors in very strong winds and are fantastic to watch but the Physics of how a sail works disproves the claimed wind strength. Sorry.🤨
Why don't these things have a vang? And why are the users always holding the mainsheet? Use a cleat and pinch and yank it out if you get hit too hard for pete's sake!

Love it!!!
Im interested in an aero for some more high wind sailing!!!!
This video has definitely convinced me that an aero is the right way to go.
:)
Come over to Amarilla Sailing Club in Teneriffe :) we have RS Aeros
Optimific areos are cool but lazar ave more history in sailing so they know all the info on how big your sail has to be and all that
I own an RS Zest and enjoying it so much!!!!!!!!!

I like small boats in big wind and waves. I've started making some videos camping with my Sunfish. Subscribed.

id be pulling the outhaul on as hard as I could in that much breeze. Good on you for getting out there and having fun though.
That boat looks so much fun.

This is the clip I show my friends when they say sailing isn’t a sport.
Hats of to the guy who mounted the Go Pro.Every shot in frame.
wish i had the money for one. looks fun as hell
also good choice in music

Love the footage!

What is the skin like thing called that you are wearing over your buoyancy aid?
Rooster race bib

would you buy a secondhand boat from this man?
Awesome bloomin stuff! :-)

0/10 bad trolling, do better next time
Damn that is fast
Do you really know what 40 kts are?
Force 7 -8 in this video... I still waiting to see it :)
If it’s in a bay I can imagine 20+ gusting up to 30
It definitely looks fast
I was in a neo in gusts of 35-40 knot winds I’m only 12 but compared to this it’s not much
nice sailing! but what i dont understand is why sail the aero when there is the laser!!!!!!!!!!!!!
because aeros are so much better than lasers paha

Should of used a 9
so a laser just brakes easier
