    Dave, the latest videos seem to be a new take on who you really are. Nice to see the authentic Dave Canterbury doing what he loves rather than just trying to sort out a YT algorithm. I really appreciate seeing the "teacher/trainer" that is who you are. Fresh and different, but still... all you.

    Thank you Dave for getting back to the heart of who started this channel so many years ago. Back when you made broadheads with tin snips & scrap, back when you stitched your own finger, back when the sharing, caring and instruction flower so evidently out.

    For some reason this reminded me of earning the Polar Bear patch about 40 years ago. From what I remember it was done alone, you hiked in carrying everything with you to your camp site at least one mile, you used a waxed canvas or oilcloth tarp to make a lean to, you had a sleeping bag, and you stayed out in weather that was below freezing for at least 24 hours. This was before cell phones, mp3 players, or anything electronic to keep kids busy. I didn't even have a watch. I was told to hike back when the sun was high. It was kind of spooky at the time for a young teenager. I looked at the rules that they have now and you can use a tent and go as a group and have parents and/or scout leaders with you.

    Good call, this was definitely worth releasing even if the original audio didn’t work out for whatever reason. Kind of a refreshing different style in the end too. Also this is the best shelter I’ve seen made with a poncho - most people just do a lean-to that wouldn’t keep the weather off much.

    Ive been wanting to get me a small poncho or just sew me together a small tarp just for stuff like that, would pair nicely with my wool blanket to go in my daypack I have just in case I may wanna spend the night. I always love your videos and your books. Definately wanting to come up that way and take one of your courses. Thanks to being in the Boy Scouts growing up Ive got loads of knowledge but always open to learning new things.

    I'd probably just make a bed of debris, lay a tarp and blanket folded lengthwise or possibly corner to corner. More debris on top. Then slide in. Curling up in a soogan was always the easiest and warmest.

  • @YankeeWoodcraft
    @YankeeWoodcraft Год назад

    Common sense...
    The smaller the shelter, the less space one has to heat up, the less firewood they have to burn, the less work they have to put in, the less risk of injury during construction, the less calories one has to expend, the less wear & tear on one's gear, etc... A person doesn't need a Taj Mahal McMansion in the woods while deforesting the region for an overnighter.

  • @calibos3329
    @calibos3329 Год назад

    Creative, but why not just make a low profile A-frame? If your supposed to be stealthy, then how much noise did you make choping wood, hammering extra stakes? How much additional time did you spend exposed collecting the proper wood, assembling the frame, tying extra knots, while you're spending 10 times the amount of time it takes to make a low profile A-frame? There's a reason the military doesn't use methods like this. Sometimes when something isn't broke, it doesn't need to be fixed. With that being said, nothing wrong with having a little fun!
