Thanks for the breakdowns. It was really interesting to know what a trip like that costs. Love how thorough and detailed u were! Also enjoyed Mel's breakdown dance haha. On another note...what are the animals behind you? Are they goats? Lol.
OMG I love you guys! We are just starting our RV journey. I have just retired (my husband has been retired for a while) and we are researching buying our first RV. Thank you for all the good info.....I am so excited to get out there and live our life!!!
Congratulations on your retirement and starting your next adventure! It will surely have some challenges, but we can assure you they're totally worth it!
Welcome home! Love all the stuff you brought that you didn't use. Especially the giant box of baking supplies! You'd think we wouldn't have similar problems in our microcamper, but we still end up with stuff like microspikes that we don't end up using all the time.
Great recap of your trip. I would have loved to see your cost graph. Good tip on using a special credit card to track costs. I'm guessing you used mapping software for location to location calculations, and then subtracted that from the total to determine an aggregate local travel number. I have done similar analysis of our trips and besides gas, our next biggest expense item was buying gifts for the grandkids. LOL Followed by park camping fees, and tour costs. The insights you get from reviewing it all are very beneficial for next trip planning.
Thanks, yeah we really just did approximate costs, but it's definitely helpful as a reference for future planning. We're going down to Baja, Mexico this year, so we not entirely sure what to expect for expenses. We expect that most things will be cheaper, but not everything.
We just finished a trip of similar duration (90 days) with our small travel trailer. The distance travelled was 20,000 Kilometres. We travelled from Southern Ontario to the Yukon, all over B.C. and Alberta, and every place in between. Our expenses were pretty much in line with yours when miles travelled are taken into account. Just like you we travelled a lot locally. Our trailer held up very well except when we were in the Yukon where a kitchen drawer lost its mounting and smashed on the floor. That was a minor repair and everything else held up nicely. Thanks for sharing and we look forward to your future videos.
We are an older couple and we had a ball. The far north is a land onto itself that has to be experienced. There is so much to see that we would do it again in a heart beat but the east coast of Canada beckons us for our next epic adventure. @@HomeARoam
My Tavel itinerary with my girlfriend….last three summers …left Florida with truck and toy hauler, loaded with two motorcycles, two kayaks, four bicycles, traveled out to California,Arizona,Utah , Idaho, Montana, Colorado, 9 national parks , two broken trailer leaf spring, two flat tires, 9,000 miles each summer, averaged 5k gas expenses. Also visits with friends in every state, helps with campgrounds expenses. Both are retired and healthy, no Covid or sick, be back next summer
Very much enjoyed following your winter getaway. We hope to try winters in Texas and Arizona with our Motorhome if I manage to convince my wife to join me in retirement
Yuma, AZ is the sunniest spot in the US in the winter 🌞 and the weather is warm during the day and cool at night - just perfect for winter. Thanks for following our journey.
Wow enjoyed your video, I live in B C and near Hope , I travel in 1992 and was on the road in Canada for 3 months and loved it , Stay at different friends , so my cost were a lot cheaper,
We were surprised at how much we spent, too and are hoping things will be different this year by going to fewer paid campgrounds and to less expensive destinations. We'll see.
Yeah the initial numbers were frightening, but once we boiled it down to just the trip cost, it wasn't too bad all things considered. Thanks for watching 😃
It was definitely a most costly winter than we had anticipated. We're hoping our winter in Baja Mexico this year will cost less. We'll be sure to report on it after we get back.
Hi Robyn, we will be heading out on the road again after we get our trailer repairs finished. Plans are still in the works, but will be announced once we firm them up.
No airbags, just stock suspension. But we do use a weight distribution tow hitch, which I'd highly recommend. Dry trailer weight is 5,500 lbs. Truck is rated to tow 10,500 lbs.
@@HomeARoam i rock a anderson wd hitch setup; i have the 5.3 10spd, 9500lb towing capacity - with the hitch alone i find the bounce is still enough to warrant air bags; watching your videos i was surprised how level'd it looked. 5100lb dry on mine.
It sounds like overall if you had done way more research and planning you would have saved about half you expenses. An expensive lesson to learn! Good luck for future trips!
Glad to have helped. Of course, some people make it work on smaller budgets and other much larger budgets, but it's a starting point to get an idea of how much it might cost.
Hi, not a tracker. It's his vaccine and vet info that came from the vet when he was rabies vaccinated. The trackers looks pretty cool though and could be handy for sure.
We didn't have any RV memberships that year, which may have saved us some money for sure. Now we carry a Passport America membership, America the beautiful, and just bought a Texas state park pass (since we're in Texas this winter). We'll include mentioning those in our summary video in the spring.
RUclips doesn't really provide a lot of revenue, and I'm not sure which expenses would qualify, so we don't currently claim any travel expenses. But that's maybe a good idea for the future to talk to an accountant once the channel grows further! 😀
Hi Ron, we stayed at State parks (about $25/night, no hookups) and private parks (about $70/night, hookups, but we usually got 50% off with our passport america membership). We found that there is a very wide range in pricing for campgrounds in California. We even saw some places priced over $100/night.
Thanks for the breakdowns. It was really interesting to know what a trip like that costs. Love how thorough and detailed u were! Also enjoyed Mel's breakdown dance haha. On another note...what are the animals behind you? Are they goats? Lol.
Yay! You found our Easter egg preview for our next video! Those are goats in our backyard.

I suppose we thought we would be prepared for everything 😁 which apparently also included hiking on compact snow.

Sounds like an amazing trip! We haven't been that far north yet, but it's on the list 😃

Oh! The east coast is wonderful, too! I (M) have been there once many years ago and would love to go back. Enjoy that adventure 💚
Great information! Thanks for the breakdowns of information.
Cacti of course!
The costs......gasp lol.
The numbers surprised us a bit too, but when compared to everyday living costs, it wasn't too bad.
Love the goats btw
awesome video, great info thank you for the breakdowns, we are just starting to think about longer trips into the states.
That's great! It can definitely be done for less or more money than we spent, but it's a good starting point. Happy travels!
Great video guys. Thanks for the detailed breakdown of expenses.
Thanks! We'll have another breakdown in the spring. We want to see if we can get those numbers down by going to Mexico!

Sounds like you've seen lots of great places on your travels.
Really enjoying all your travel info , we're making plans to travel the Baja your very good information .
That's wonderful! We loved Baja so much and have a video coming with a ton of information for first timers going there.

Love the bloopers!
That's one of our favorite parts, too.

Great info guys! I’m scared to add ours up 😬. Considering you had a three month trip, it’s not too bad! See you next time!
Yeah the initial numbers were frightening, but once we boiled it down to just the trip cost, it wasn't too bad all things considered. Thanks for watching 😃
@@HomeARoam I agree! A great experience!
Great video. I’m in Yuma right now , originally from BC
Nice! Yuma was one of our stops a couple of years ago. It's a lovely town.
Thanks for posting.
You bet. Thanks for watching 😃
Another good one thank you very much but at a D3 I'm not likely to afford Healthcare in the states
It was definitely a most costly winter than we had anticipated. We're hoping our winter in Baja Mexico this year will cost less. We'll be sure to report on it after we get back.
Great video, thanks for sharing the costs. Are you guys going back out on the road again? Cactuses!! 🌵
Hi Robyn, we will be heading out on the road again after we get our trailer repairs finished. Plans are still in the works, but will be announced once we firm them up.
$3000 a month for a vacation isn't bad 14:49
Yeah fairly reasonable.
Do you have airbags installed on the truck? Whats the dry weight of your trailer?
No airbags, just stock suspension. But we do use a weight distribution tow hitch, which I'd highly recommend. Dry trailer weight is 5,500 lbs. Truck is rated to tow 10,500 lbs.

See you guys next year you'll have to spend more boondocking time with us it's cheaper
Way cheaper 😁 See you next year!
Great video of your costs.. and i noticed your cats collar… is this a tracker. And if so what brand..?
Hi, not a tracker. It's his vaccine and vet info that came from the vet when he was rabies vaccinated. The trackers looks pretty cool though and could be handy for sure.
Did you include your RV memberships in your costs? As a wanderer, don’t limit yourself to exploring the areas you are in.
We didn't have any RV memberships that year, which may have saved us some money for sure. Now we carry a Passport America membership, America the beautiful, and just bought a Texas state park pass (since we're in Texas this winter). We'll include mentioning those in our summary video in the spring.
Since you have a RUclips channel, if it’s monetized can you write off these travel expenses?
RUclips doesn't really provide a lot of revenue, and I'm not sure which expenses would qualify, so we don't currently claim any travel expenses. But that's maybe a good idea for the future to talk to an accountant once the channel grows further! 😀
What was your average cost per day for campgrounds on the California coast ?
Hi Ron, we stayed at State parks (about $25/night, no hookups) and private parks (about $70/night, hookups, but we usually got 50% off with our passport america membership). We found that there is a very wide range in pricing for campgrounds in California. We even saw some places priced over $100/night.

everything in California is insane , even us Americans stay away from the most expensive state we have .
It definitely cost more than going to another state, but it's also so beautiful that we couldn't pass it up.
