Welcome to Home A Roam!
We are documenting our transition from a traditional 9-5 lifestyle to one of freedom and the ability to choose our own adventure. We’ve quit our jobs, downsized our home, bought an RV, and then the pandemic hit. We patiently waited to hit the road on a grand adventure with our adventure cat, Benny.
And then, off we went! Across Canada and back. All over British Columbia. Snowbirding in California and Arizona. Spending the winter in Baja California and Baja California Sur.
Where will we go next? Please join us by subscribing to this channel.
And remember: Keep on living the life you've imagined! :-)

Pedernales Falls State Park Camping Things to do in Fredericksburg, TX
Your clickbait thumbnail that lends belief to camping there next to the arches..... yeah, that will not just get you arrested, it is a federal crime in a federal park to take ANY wheeled vehicle to that spot. You just earned a reprt for misleading, and a "dont recommend" so i will never accidentally support misinformation from your channel. I suggest everyone else who is a responsible outdoorsman to do the same. Do not reward fake clickbait. If you want to do adventure videos....do them responsibly. We have enough city dwelling asshats tearing up our parks. (Mostly bicyclists).
I'm baffled because it was working great just a few hours ago but suddenly it just clicks but doesn't light!
Have a look at the guide I linked below, but if you have a similar model to ours, I'd guess it's a problem with the sail switch. That failed intermittently on us all the time. Enough that I always carried a spare!
My furnace was working fine hours ago and now suddenly when you slide the thermostat up, it clicks but doesn't light! There's plenty of propane in the tank and the fuse is good !
This page here: homearoam.com/how-to/rv-furnace-troubleshooting/ plus the PDF linked there are a good place to start. It sounds like you're on "Stage 2" in the guide.
Possibly add the basic wire diagram for 2 and 4 battery set up. How to connect a basic battery charger .
Thanks, that's a great suggestion! We plan to do a follow-up, RV Batteries 102, so to speak :)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Thanks for watching ❤
I always love the scenery there in BC !! As always BS & BK & BK !! I’m glad you found the perfect tree !! Happy Dance , wonderful!! I enjoy your channel as always !!
We are definitely spoiled for scenery in BC. So many amazing views in every direction!
We just went there is fall the valley was amazing we swam with the whale sharks it was a dream come true
What a beautiful place to swim with whale sharks! We had that pleasure in La Paz and we agree, a dream come true for sure.
A few funny trees along the way, but you guys ended up finding a great one!
Thanks! We definitely found a good one! Glad you were able to come see it!
I THINK Benny approved the tree! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! Yes, Benny approves and thankfully hasn't tried climbing or spraying it (yet) 😆
You can get your FREE CHRISTMAS TREE 🎄 PERMIT here: www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/natural-resource-use/natural-resource-permits/christmas-tree-permits And check out heated 🔥apparel here with Ororo's holiday sale: shrsl.com/4s10q (30% off!)
So cool. We never get a Christmas / Yule tree. Last year a bought a tiny one from Amazon to keep on a table.
We travel with a tiny one when we go away in the winter. This year we're excited to have 5 trees! This one, plus 4 artificial ones (two tiny, one small, and one tall skinny one). We practically have a forest 😆
What a beautiful tree! Thanks for sharing that u can get a permit and cut your own tree!…didn’t know this! Merry Christmas to u both and Benny!
Thanks! Merry Christmas! Yeah, Mel stumbled upon it somehow last year and made a note for this year just in case we were spending the season at home.
Mel & Jay’s VANventures! Nice🎄.
New channel name perhaps? Happy holidays! Hope you have a wonderful festive season.
I think the engine will work harder with a few thousand pounds of build-out
Hahah, yes, for sure. We don't expect to be flying up that hill at 120km/h once after it's been fully outfitted. 😀
We loved your happy dance walk back to the van. Lol
😅😂 Just couldn't contain the excitement!
That tree looked good outside but looks even better inside! If you do this again in the future, the van won’t be tree friendly! Merry Christmas!
You're right! We might have to enlist the help of friends with trucks!
🎄
Can you believe that we have 5 trees up in the house!? This one, plus 2 tiny ones, one small one on the porch, and a tall skinny tree in the hallway?
Yeah, that's great, fun going to get your own Christmas tree . Merry Christmas, Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too! It was a pretty neat experience and not one we will forget anytime soon.
Love my All Weather tires! Nice tree.
They're totally the BEST tires ever! We learned about them when we first moved to BC and experienced driving in really heavy rain, which was absolutely terrible and scary (not to mention dangerous) with all-season tires. We made the switch and noticed such a difference that we tell everyone about them whenever we can.
Awesome! Merry Christmas and beautiful tree
Thank-you, and a Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
えぇ〜今更ロズウェルかよ?もうどうでもいいだろう。
It's quite the place. 😁
I am 71 years old when I was a kid in mid 1960,s my Dad rented a travel trailer and we were camping in Galveston beach still remember the sand getting in the trailer what a mess , I have a trailer today my wife said one day let,s camp on the beach I said let me tell u the story of camping on the beach , forgot to say also my Dad got stuck that week, would never do that again !!
Yeah, getting stuck in the sand is the worst! 😄
Empire Ranch. We're headed there tomorrow.
Have fun! It's so peaceful there and has amazing sunsets!
If happens unexpectedly on a cold night, say 40 degrees or lower. Blower working, plenty of propane, etc.... try putting a heat lamp on the regulator near your tank. Moisture in the fuel or metal expansion could cause it to malfunction, and the warmth overcomes.
Good to know, never tried that one. Thanks for the tip!
This comment just saved my wife and I a cold night. Currently 27° in ohio and our furnace has been working for the last few weeks with no problem and up until about an hour ago. I watched the video and started taking things apart and then happened to see this comment. My furnace was kicking on with the fan running would run for 15-20 seconds and then shut off with out ever trying to light. I put an electric heater that we use in our bedroom aimed directly on the furnace (and the little cavity where it is) for about 15 minutes and it kicked right back on. Great video and thank you so much @nosoupforyou425 this did the trick.
Your tips will give me a starting place to inspect from, thanks!
Happy to help! Hope you find and fix the problem soon. Stay warm!
If you get stuck in the sand, carry a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Fill it up with beach water, and pour it on the sand where you are going to drive, and also around your tires. This will make the sand super hard, and you will be able to drive right out. When I park on the beach, I pour water on my tires through out the day to make sure the sand turns hard, that way, when I get ready to go, the sand is hard and you can drive right out. Also, put a pan with a couple if inches of water in front of your steps, so you can rinse your feet, to avoid getting sand inside your camper.
Great ideas 💡 thanks for the tips!
Love it that Texas lives up to it's reputation that everything is bigger in Texas
Oh yeah! This was the biggest donut we'd ever seen! 😂🤤
How long was the entire bike ride from Mission conception and back?
The missions are about 2.5 miles apart, so to go out and back is about 15 miles.
Canada or US parks or both?
This is for the US National Parks. Good question, thanks for asking 🙂
I can’t wait !!
My furnace stays running with heat
Likely a thermostat issue in that case. Luckily they're fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. Sorry I don't have a video about that, but I'm sure there are a few out there. Just look up your model! :)
Canada British Columbia Prince George 🇨🇦 And United Kingdom Wales Carmarthen 🇬🇧
Are they sister cities?
Great video, but you missed a big one: a compact van that some folks will be able to stand up in. The Promaster 118" wheelbase. It's still in production, and widely available (compared to many on the list). It is the smallest van that can fit all the amenities of a full RV. In my opinion, it is one of the best options for folks looking for a compact van in the US.
Thanks for sharing this one!
Please don't add music to your videos or at least have it at a much lower volume. Can you imagine if you had an annoying music loop playing while your professor was giving a lecture on a difficult topic??
Thanks for the feedback 👍
Chevrolet had a rebadged nv-200 as the Chevrolet City van
Thanks for letting us know about it! 🙏
Nice trip. Warning though; Lots of rattlesnakes in those dunes
Thanks for the heads up 😃
We have a 1998 Roadtrek Popular 190 like the one at 8:40. We love it. With a tune up, we're getting 16 L/100km. She's done well for us so far.
That's great! 😃
This is interesting !
Thanks, there are so many options for van conversions
Congratulations, I love the idea of “mooch docking”!
It certainly helps cut costs and allows us to extend our travels.
Wow, lots of research! Congrats on the new van. 🎉
Thanks! Yes, SO much research 😁
Thanks folks. I think you've done your homework and I like your choice.
Thanks! So far we're happy with the van we got, too.
We have a 44 ft rv, can we drive comfortably on the roads and be able to find a space, will also have a jeep
Hi! 44 ft is pretty long especially if you're towing a Jeep on top of that. We met several people who went to Baja with their class A motorhomes who all said that if they were to do the trip again, they would go with something much smaller. We felt the same way with our 25' trailer (we were 40' with the truck attached). Having said that, it really depends on where you want to go. San Felipe is pretty accessible and only about 1 hour south of the border at the Mexicali East crossing. You could go as far as that, and then drive a bit further south with the jeep to scope things out to see if you'd be comfortable driving on the roads there. Not long after San Felipe the road narrows and it's like that for most of the driving on the rest of the peninsula. Not sure we would call towing down those roads comfortable, but we got used to it.
P.S if you watch some of the videos in our Baja series, you can get a sense for what the roads are like. We even made a short specifically about driving conditions there.
We’ve driven our 2020 3500 to Patagonia with high hopes we shall reach Ushuaia in December. It’s been brilliant. We had ours custom built with South America in mind and we really enjoy living aboard. I trust you will find the same joy with yours.
Amazing 😍 We're considering the Pan American highway one day. What an adventure! Good luck with the last leg of your journey!
Hi we've been living in our Fleetwood Bounder for the last 10 years end the last few years we've had this weird issue where the heater does everything right it lights up but after a few seconds you can hear the propane valve shut off and when you wait a few seconds it relates the fan never stops what we found out is you turn the stove gas or any other Gas Propane on and then the heater furnace runs just fine you can turn off the stove and the the heater works just fine thanks
That sounds like it could be a regulator issue. It might be worth having it checked, or just replaced if it's fairly old.
@HomeARoam it's a brand new regulator less than a year ago a high efficient regulator also when I turn on the gas stove or any other propane then the heater lights and stays on
It’s the Thompson River
Thanks for letting us know
Welcome to the RGV! We love going to the Island in the winter.
The sand is so soft!
thanks for the video! which month was that? mid march?
Thanks! New were there at the end of Feb, early March. The season was apparently starting to wrap up at that point, but we still got an amazing experience
Congrats, this is very exciting! Look like you'll have even bigger adventure up ahead!
Thanks! We're super excited to see where it takes us! Baja is definitely on the list 😄
Have you tried Raymondville area? Maybe even port Isabel area?
We've been to port Isabel, but not to camp. Have not checked out Raymondville. Thanks for the tip!
You look like people who robs banks
Please give a curly hair routine :) beautiful hair!
Thanks! I'll see about including one in a future video.
