BLM La Posa LTVAs near Quartzsite have a 7 month long term season that runs from September 15th - April 15th. You must purchase a $180 permit. The permit gives you access to vault toilets, dumpsters, dump station, and potable water during the season. Groceries etc available in Quartzsite, Blythe CA (20 miles away), Parker AZ (35 miles away), & Yuma AZ (abt 95 miles away).

And pretty close to some very nice landscapes and parks as well!! Kofa to the south is amazing if you havent been down there. That mountain range is one of the craziest and coolest ones Ive had the pleasure of exploring and photographing!

I never really understood "Snow-birding" until 4 years ago. We are now regulars. We don't live in a particularly cold climate (PNW) but it rains a fair amount. Spending part of feb & march in the sun & warm really lifts you up. We start heading North about mid March. It is strange going back home and adjusting. You feel like you left Summer for early Spring. Quartzsite not only long term but has a water & dump station. Agree with you on Sedona area. Like yourselves we came darn close to getting stuck the same time you did. Thankfully I have 4 wheel drive and did get out. Some didn't.

If you are in the Tucson area and are an aviation nut... pardon me... enthusiast, the 'Boneyard" at Davis Monthan AFB is worth a visit as is the Pima Air and Space Museum.
And... the Titan II missile museum about an hour south in Green Valley is very interesting if you grew up during the Cold War. Plan ahead and book the 'Top To Bottom' tour.

LTVA Imperial Dam, just about 25 miles outside Yuma, is the same kind of thing as Quartzsite - $180.00 for 7 months. Or $40.00 for two weeks - I think - if you want to stay on LTVA land. Of course, BLM is free all over but, cause the Yuma Proving Grounds- Army owned - is right there, because they have lots of land there's not as much BLM around there. We liked being close to the YPG because of all the booms - : ) - but, yeah - it does cut down on BLM. We went to both Quartzsite and Imperial Dam last winter and we REALLY liked Imperial Dam lots more. Rarely any line for water and dumping (which i don't think you guys do if I remember correctly), it's more interesting looking, with the reservoir, and it's not nearly as dusty and crowded in some areas as Quartzsite.
And, congratulations to your wife on her job! I did recruiting for a few years, and it's a great job for remote work.

We locals pronounce Verde.....Vurdy not Verday. Also, Cottonwood/Camp Verde area doesnt normally get the cold like you have experienced the last couple years here. Right now highs are in the mid to high 60's here. Drove by your campsite east of Camp Verde last year, but didnt want to bother you that day. Another thing to note, back when you thought someone was parked at your camper and a couple years ago, and you thought they were going to steal of mess with your rig. What was actually happening was some local Hopi or Navajo Indians were simply waiting for you to return so they could bum money from you for booze. It has been that way for many years here. I used to work for the Tribe years ago and know what they do. They would not have harmed you or stolen from you. Just need money for drink is all. Im an old Hoosier that transplanted from West Central Indiana to here 37 years ago.

Hi, David. Thanks for your videos; I really enjoy them; and I just subscribed. I thought your truck camping video in freezing temperatures video was a nice piece of art.
Now...I want to comment on a point that you made here. You said that one can find three campsites in the Phoenix area and alternate between them, thusly stay within the rules of dispersed camping. This is technically true.
Firstly, you must understand that I am a crazy person who enjoys reading the rules and regulations concerning camping on public lands (almost exclusively federal), though to be fair to myself that is only a part of the research about public lands that I do. With that said and having looked at the rules of many different forests/lands...and having seem the rules concerning dispersed camping become more restrictive over time...I will tell you (and I have read specific statements about this from the NFS) that it is contrary to the intent of their rules for people to cycle between campsites in a relatively small area...such as the extended area around a major city.
This intent is really not aimed at people like you and Rae, rather it is aimed at car campers who are law breakers and trash the area, but nonetheless these governmental entities tend to make sweeping generalizations, and so I do think it's important to understand that 'skirting' the letter of the law (rules in this case) very well could contribute to the rules becoming more and more restrictive in the future.
Who the NFS, and other like agencies like the BLM, want to service is people seeing the country...and I understand that you and Rae are doing that:, I just want to put my two cents in here for clarity for everyone else. I think it's a much better practice to cycle in a larger area than just Phoenix.
From a map it seems to me that half the land west of Texas is public. Using latitude mixed with elevation, the possibilities for chasing perfect weather are endless out west. No need to just hang around Phoenix.
Plus Starlink is almost ready to go for roaming, so soon, cellular coverage will be a non-issue.
