The Sabre is just impossible to play rn. I love facing this thing, starfighters, rooks, warthogs, that one Mig-23, harriers, and much, much more. This is also a problem with the WW2 era rst rocket. Even top tier is more bearable than 8.3-9.7 rn.
you might be the first youtuber ive watched actually give this plane a good review. personally, i think the plane is a ton of fun. it does however have many flaws, one major one i don't believe you touched on, those stubby little wings provide VERY LITTLE LIFT, you will hit the ground quite often if you aren't careful

For anyone who thinks this plane is good, you should check out the Ayit in the Israeli tree, same br of 9.3 but with better flight performance, 60 flares and 4 x 18g missiles with much longer range, you have to be a little more measured with missile shots but that thing feels like easy mode to me.
the thing with the yak38 is it started with 2 missiles but like 2-3 months ago they added 4 r60's, also yak30 is not meant to be Air destroyer since it's slow af, turns ultra bad and bleeds extremely easy.
I only get up tiered to planes with flares but that doesn't really matter because the missile doesn't even lokv anyways. I'm right behind them about 1 km away and it doesn't even lock.
Late comment, but I was in the F-105D and saw a yak 38 well within R-60 range. Somehow, I was able to dodge 3 of his missiles with the last one only getting a crit on me. I was able to land and repair, but still to this day, idk how I dodged the R-60s, call myself lucky.
And when you poit out the obvious problem of a plane carrying 4x R60 at 9.3 on the forums, you'll be quickly shut down by forum mods and other fanbois by being told it's skill issue. You can't win with these people
I actually like the Mig-21S more with its 4 R3R radar missiles. You can shoot them frontally like all aspect IR missiles and they cant even flare them. Being in a Mig-21 is much better than being in a flying brick like the Yak38
Against 9.0s Yak-38 is OP. But 90% of the time, it plays in 9.7 or 10.0, and there it is almost useless against the swarm of AV-8A and A-10A, beacuse they all have flares and the R60s love flares. Its makes Yak's main advantage, be useless. By the way you almost never can dodge missiles because it is a brick and even if you dodge one, it lose a lot of speed while maneuvering and dogfight is not an option, so you are dead. Everyone know this problems and that's why yaks receives focus. The only you can do to be safe, is make worth your decent top speed, stay far and wait casual opportunities.
And still the only VTOL plane that did not got a custom loadout is the US AV-8C for some reason, making it the least played VTOL jet in the game now. And I wonder what the Yak-38M does better to be 9.7? I don't think I ever had a good game with it (still mostly stock, but I got the R60s).

With this loadout, the regular Yak-38 should be at least 10.0, and the Yak-38M should have 4xR-60M and be bumped to 10.3/10.7. But it will never happen because this one is a premium and it would break the holy grail of Gaijin's cash cows, the russian 9.7 lineup
@der_Ritter ww2 jets? It's at 9.3 it faces cold war jets all can out turn it, it only has rear aspect ir and the only way your getting on the rear of someone is they are blind
I would still recommend it, it does of course sit at a slightly higher BR but the matchmaker is not much different. If I recall correctly the Yak-38M has slightly stronger engines and that's the major difference. Personally I don't think it's enough of a difference to justify the BR jump, but the prem Yak shouldn't be 9.3 anyways...
İ mean its a great plane if you get a downtier, but you don't. That match is just a cherry picked low tier march. My experience in 9.3 is that 1/40 games is downtier. You are gonna be fighting supersonics that will destroy you or usa teams full of a-10/f-5c which makes your r60s useless cuz they have too many flares.
Literally the match I did the best in is the first, and it's a 10.3 game. I did one full uptier and two full downtiers, because the fact that a transonic plane with 4 R-60s can fight panthers and A-5 sabres is ridiculous

I’m pretty sure nowadays you won’t face uptiers as my A5C is nonstop against 10.3 and 10.7. I haven’t seen a downtier in it for weeks now.
