- In this video we show you how we like to desensitize our horses with the tarp. This is Nala's 3rd session. In our next session, we'll working on introducing her to the flank rope, in preparation for her first saddling.
We hope you'll subscribe to follow all our horse training videos!
I want to congratulate you on your way of training. Excellent, confident and understanding the way of the horse.
I picked up a golden nugget. A scary object in motion is less like a predator. Thanks for some great tips.
She is trying to anticipate what you are going to ask her to do next. What an awesome girl!
I was already planing to work on desensitizing a pony to the tarp, but this had quite a few more tips than other videos. Thanks so Much!
THANK YOU for these videos. My mare that I got about a month ago is exactly like this mare and very reactive. I am learning so freaking much by watching you train this girl. Thank you again!
So interesting to watch the progress she is making!
Another great video! Please keep these training videos coming! They are more helpful than you know!

Good job !!!
Great video. Thank you!
Hi we did the stick, flag, and tarp.. etc and my horse did great! You think I should also do the “ plastic bag “ or the flag is good enough?
Hey, so my suggestion would be to gauge where your horse's mental state is at. If he/she has a tendency to quickly worry about new things, then I'd use several tools to desensitize. However, if your horse seems to quickly adapt to new stimulus, and you've gotten it thoroughly used to the flag & tarp, etc. Then you could probably forego the plastic bag. I never use it personally, but I don't have anything against it. Hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your horse!
@@zacharias.horsemanship yea that’s what I was thinking.. yea he’s so good with the tarp, flag, stick, rope over him etc .. I just don’t want to make it a big deal if it’s not a big deal to him.. I just haven’t experienced it out in the trail yet.. in your experience after the desensitizing like your videos have you came across a flying plastic bag.?
@@westernshack Once two neighbor kids came running out behind a fence carrying a fluttering plastic bag just as we were riding by. My boyfriend’s horse spooked, he fell of broke his wrist. So I now make sure my horses can handle plastic bags on a sticks.
That is one pretty mare, beautiful head!!! Almost looks like Arab bloodlines.
Looks like a Morgan I had down to the blaze.
She is doing so well! :D The first video I watched of yours was about One Chance Fancy, my favorite vid of yours
I'm so sorry, that's far too young
Do you offer personal teaching videos? Can I send you through email what my horse is doing and what I can be doing to help her?
My Arab Quarter cross didn't have such a petite, delicate head, neck and those withers look Arab too....yes, i know she's a Mustang, but the foundation stock of mustangs were Arabs, Inerian ,draft and other breeds
@@zacharias.horsemanship she is surely a pretty girl!:)
So my 6 year old gelding is terrified of stepping on the tarp. He will let me touch him with the tarp, AS LONG AS I bring it to him when it's folded up and small. If I unfold it at all, even if it's far away from him, he runs away. How do I help fix him being afraid of it being unfolded, and stepping on it? And what should I do when he runs away, and he starts to drag me with him?
