Not to sound negative but am I the only person on the internet who prefers their supra's to have 600-700 hp at the wheels on "proper" street wheels and tyres? Call me crazy but I'm just not a fan of the 1000 hp slicked up tyre frying monsters. The supra Matt Farah drove on Tuned a few years ago is my personal definition of the perfect supra. To each his own though.

While my experience is still somewhat limited, for a weekend/street car i'd say the max I'd personally go is around 700 whp. But this Mk4. Supra is an absolutely crazy thing to experience and definitely has it's place. The rate at which the car accelerates is scary and the engineering and time that goes into breaking 1,000hp is unbelievable...
fair point and I'm kinda with you on, btwn 600 and 800 would make a viscous entertaining daily and street racer enough for most people. but supras seem to be a different animal in the big nos and are amazing to watch
I agree although I'm just tired of seeing that every supra is super modified. I'm much more excited and surprised to see unmolested or mildly modified supras because heavily modified examples are so normal nowadays.
+Ben salter You might be right... although when you own a 700whp Supra, it's just a matter of time when you get it to 1000+. Trust me, i am in that place right now. The HP bug drives you nuts... The 2JZ is just a great platform for upgrades that you cannot stop. That's how i feel anyway.
I'd take a Supra any day. But they Skyline is another car I really want but nothing beats the Supra

Rafael Samardzic it’s just preference. Even Supra owners know the skyline is better in rain and snow because it’s AWD. Ideally I’d want a gtr for track and Supra for daily.

The amazing thing about the supra (especially the mkiv) is the power is the more raw form of power you'll ever feel.
You could take two 500 whp cars one being the supra and the other being any other car you choose. And the supra by far will feel much more dramatic and hard hitting than that car. There is something about the 2jz and boost that causes it to go absolutely nuts with torque. I've riden in some fast cars and all of them felt calm after riding in my first ever 430 whp supra. The torque was so hard hitting it was like the car was rear ended by a semi truck.
Shortly after that ride i decided to boost my na supra that i've owned for 8 years now, and did enough supporting mods to help me obtain around 550 whp. After feeling the boost and other people riding in it is a joy. especially their reactions.

I love how he kept the aesthetics of the car rather understated. More often than not these builds have gaudy and tasteless body kits that make the vehicle look ridiculous, but this is clean, nice, and beautiful.
don't get me wrong, the supra is a car that up there with the best of them and the 2jz is just amazing.... I have just never fallen love with Supra body...
I'd go Skyline and a RX7 FD any day!

+Mark M The 300zx has a better look and is more timeless than the Supra. Supra looks just like a Celica from the side and the front looks too bubbly along with the rear. The 300zx actually looks like a an exotic car in the front.. so much that Lamborghini had to use 300zx headlights in their Diablo 6.0's.

i would personally choose the r34 over the supra. considering the fact that the supra is iconic for tuning, having an r34 would be great. high speed, neck breaking looks, and a lot of respect. the r34 also sounds so nasty, depending on the exhaust you get, the r34 sounds phenomenal.

Alright so its 1200 HP at the crank which = 1037 WHP which was shown in the video on the dyno sheet. It was then turned down to 950 WHP for the video as I mentioned.

Great video. It translates the thrill of driving a MKIV Supra. My 93 puts down 750HP at the wheels on NITTO NT05 tires. Was on 285/40/18 but they quit making that size so I'm back to 285/35. 6466 Precision turbo.
Can't wait to see what Duane will do with his MKIV. Tommy's is freakin' slick as hell, too. reminds me of the original need for speed Supra. Great vid man!

2 reasons
1. The MAIN reason skylines are so coveted is only because they are hard to get and KEEP in the US. (r32 now easier) This is classic "Want what you can't have psychology 101". If Skylines were the BEST OF THE BEST Japan Tuners would prefer the GTR over any other platform. But for them, They GET the skyline. So They are able to approach the Supra/Skyline debate objectively. And the Skyline doesn't win hands down.
2. Our beloved Paul Walker had the privilege of owning BOTH cars. And even though he is known more commonly as a "Skyline" guy, He actually preferred the Supra over the GTR. Being a skyline guy for the F&F franchise was sexier due to reason number 1 above. Dealing with both cars firsthand he was able to realize that the RB motors have some flaws like overheating etc. And at the same time He stated unequivocally that the 2JZ platform was hands down the best engine out of the two. Minimum issues, able to be beat on everyday and keep going, can take gobs of HP, and is extremely reliable. In fact, who would know Paul Walkers preference better than those whom he knew and loved?? Which was the EXACT reason they chose a MKIV Supra for his departure in Furious 7. In real life, off camera, Paul preferred the Supra. Because Skylines are cool and all, but Supras are just better cars PERIOD. And Paul would have wanted it that way.

Alright! So if you follow along closely you'll see that 1200 HP is the estimated HP at the crank, based on 15% drivetrain loss. The car has been dynoed at 1037 WHP in the past, as shown in the video, but it was turned down to 950 WHP for this video as I mentioned. Hope you enjoyed it!

1st it is 1200 hp in the crank so it is less in the wheels this is a law all cars got that,secondly it depends on the turbo pressure,it can be lower(lower power) or higher boost for higher power

I bought a new 1984 Supra, only 150 hp, but the best car I ever owned. The inline dual overhead cam 6 was so smooth and quiet that I occasionally tried to start it when it was already running

+ThatOneGuy Rare sure, exciting, not really. I've driven enough R34 GTTs here in Australia and whilst they're a fun car, they're still a bit of a boat. Perhaps I'm just a little jaded, but I found that my 180sx when it was still mildly-modded (3" turbo-back exhaust, coils and boosted to 12psi) was a lot more exciting than an R33/R34 with FMIC and 3" turbo-back. The 180sx you can just throw into bends and not give a toss, whereas the R34 just feels... big.
I'd personally go the Supra over the R34, but I must admit I do like both GTs.

I was just arguing with my brother about this car, more specifically what launched its legendary status. I felt it was the video game series Gran Turismo that initially imprinted this car into American minds. He thinks it was its use in the first Fast & The Furious movie that did so. No matter what, this care is legendary and I still love it to this day. The Skyline GTR, Toyota Supra Twin Turbo RZ as well as more common cars like the 240 SX and Toyota Celica will be our generations "Muscle Cars"

I've owned both 93 Skyline GT-R and now a 93 Supra RZ TT. Selling the GTR and buying the Supra was the best decision I've ever made. I actually owned two GT-Rs. I sold the first one because I just couldn't fall in love with it. Then I bought my second one and tried again. I sold it after 2 months. Really the R32 chassis is the only comparison. I drove my best friend's 700whp R34 GT-R but with my Supra being BPU I can't compare them because of the huge difference in the set ups. Interior wise I like the Supra better and reliability wise the 2J is superior.

I love both Supra and skylines. They are both legendary, beautiful beasts, but if I absolutely positively had to choose I would choose the Supra. Greatest car ever made.
what is it with all these fake horse power titles the last weeks? First the Skyline R32 that made 700 instead of 800. And now this that makes 950(or 1000ish) instead of 1200....
Quick lesson: the Skyline R32 made 700hp at the wheels, which is about 800 at the crank (the number manufacturers use) For instance Dodge says the Hellcat has 707hp. That's at the crank. It only makes just over 600 at the wheels. This Supra, on its best day, made 1200hp. (1037hp at the wheels - and tuned down to 950hp at the wheels when I drove it. The number are accurate. They're not fake :p
Oh, that explains it! It just sounds weird that you see a title of a 1200hp supra. and in the video they say 1037hp. While Duane's Supra was 1036hp at the wheels and that video, it was also stated in the title as 1036..

well, that is true. might be an tip for upcoming video's then to also state HP at the crank. This way you can prevent the confusion.

I'm all about American cars, but this is hands down the best car ever made in terms of, everything. Style, performance potential, ergonomics, just everything. I'm a big GM guy, if GM made even a small displacement V8 with a bottom end that could take the amount of cylinder pressures a 2JZ does, we'd be seeing 2,000hp V8s on a stock bottom end. I couldn't imagine a V8 that I could just throw 40psi at and not have to worry about anything mechanical. The V160 behind it is STOUT and geared PERFECTLY along with the final drive the TT models got. Amazing cars.

1,076 WHP dyno'd before which is roughly 1200 HP at the crank (hence the title), and like I said in the video, when I was driving it, it was at around 950 WHP. Not sure what else we can do!! xD
Roads Untraveled I guess what he (or she) is saying is that most people don't care about crank Hp. When we see a title "1200hp Supra" we are under the assumption that this is a 1200rwhp Supra and then you say "950rwhp" and people are like wuuuuh? lol My suggestion (and this is just a suggestion) is to specify the wheel Hp in the title or list the Hp as crank Hp in the title this way it's not misleading.
Jemel Robinson if you think the crank horsepower is misleading then you might as well not talk about the hp of any production vehicle.

I did something stupid 2 times. The 1st one costed me $3k in repairs and the 2nd stupid thing costed me the car itself.
So now i say the same thing in my 98 Supra and my 98 240sx, DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID AND DON'T STREET RACE ANYONE ... Just drive, enjoy it and hit it a few times to feel the power and NEVER over do it.

It needs a body kit(a taste full one though nothing too wild or crazy), something is missing, it still seems kinda naked...also it needs to sit lower, it's high of the ground, better rims too, like Duane's, other than that it's AWESOME!!! LOVE IT!!!

I`m a hardcore Skyline owner but I also love the Supra.Both cars are a product of forward thinking Japanese automotive engineers, which is why they have stood the test of time and can be modified and take a beating.

I live in the UK and I'm currently working as hard as I can to earn the money to buy an R34 GTR from Japan. And I love R32 & R33 GTRs too. So I pick the Skyline. But in the perfect world, I want both a Skyline & a Supra. The Skyline for weekend track days where power, handling, grip, balance and durability ALL count. And the Supra for pure, crazy 1000+whp drag racing (or street racing on the highway where there are no cops around).

the best review you all have done was with this supra you nailed it mine don't make 950 but I have a 97 2jz and I got 622hp and I love mine and plan to go bigger great video guys
