    I eat fruit up until noon in the heat. I'll add some mixed nuts afterwards for hunger since fruit digests fast. If it's buggy, I wear a Shannon's Bug Tamer jacket instead of spraying all over with deet and then I only need a little bit on my face and maybe hands. I'll also dip it in the creek to cool down quick. A cup of water per hour minimum seems to be about right. The old siesta in the heat of the day in a hammock works well.

    I don't miss shearing Christmas trees and baling hay in the summertime during high school one single bit.
    I noticed that not too soon after my two brothers graduated from high school that my parents sold their farmette and my dad had an air conditioned job for the rest of his working days
    What we did a lot was get up early in the morning and work then take off in the middle of the day a lot of times to let the hay dry a little then bale until 9 pm.
    Luckily my dad had invested in some automatic hay stackers but we still had to load hay bales on semi's when we sold it. We had one wagon per year that we took home and the rest we sold.

    I quit using many of the drinks like Gatorade because of the sugar content. When I lived in Arizona and hiked in the summer heat, I found water with just a little lemon juice was much better at keeping you balanced. You can get sugar free electrolytes. I carry Werthers sugar free. By the way filling a funky smelling waterbottle with lemon or lime water and letting it sit over night gets rid of most smells.

    • @madtownangler
      @madtownangler Месяц назад

      I always have cold lemon or lime water in the fridge. Way cheaper than drinking pop which is also bad for diabetics

    • @57WillysCJ
      @57WillysCJ Месяц назад

      @@madtownangler I agree. There are some zero sugar brands out there. A couple are good but most are bad and none are good in high heat. Making an aquafresca is also a good way to get kids to drink water if they are hooked on sugar drinks.

    California certainly does have "micro climates" as they say.
    I happen to live in an area that has dry heat in the Summer.
    Temps. hit 110 to 115 deg. easily for days with very low humidity.
    When you step outside it feels like you've been hit by an anvil, and the wind ain't much better neither.
    You see people who brag about having experience "OUT IN THE WILD", dropping like flies just doing a simple day hike in the foothills!
    In the past, I've turned Blue in the face explaining the huge importance of staying hydrated.
    I've been roaming around in the outdoors since my dad first took me out when I was a very young boy, I'm 62 now.
    I never brag about my outdoor experiences to anyone, but if they don't want to take simple common sense advice, well then, they're on their own hook.

    During my active duty days, there was one guy who got lost in the desert during a chemical/biological drill -- in full kit. He was luckily found, albeit 3 hours later, passed out from the heat (and no water) but still alive (and still masked in full gear). Such things are no joke. He would have died if not found in time.

    I’m having some major issues at 55 years old. I’m diabetic and have had 4 spinal fusion’s. The last one was this past October. I feel better,…….. but when I walk 50 yards to the barn, I am tired, very winded and start feeling dizzy. I have to usually I will have to sit in the barn 15-20 before I can make my long 50 yards back to the house? I’m just frustrated! I’m ex military infant and have always been very active! Now I’m lucky to make it back from getting my eggs? Is this just me getting old? Or do I have some other things going on? I do go to the heart doctor next week! Thanks for letting me vent!

    The Grayl is a very good secondary filter. I prefer my Sawyer for my primary filter.

    • @coydog6665
      @coydog6665 Месяц назад +1

      If I may, why would you use a more effective filter for your secondary filter and not your primary filter? Just curious to the reasoning, not judging

    • @tooterplumber1128
      @tooterplumber1128 Месяц назад

      @@coydog6665 I do that because the filter for the Grayl is a much finer filter able to filter out viruses. Which means that it will clog up much faster due to larger debris. I prefilter the water so that my Grayl filter last longer because it isn't just my health on the line it's also my loved ones. But as long as you can keep buying those expensive filters by all means keep it up. BUT in a SHTF situation you are not going to be able to get more of the Grayl filters. Therefore how long do you want your Grayl filter to last. Example ( why put a tee- shirt over the mouth of your catch container. To filter out larger debris making better drinking water. Same principle for the Grayl.) I use something like a Sawyer first and then my Grayl second to save my Grayl filter as long as possible because I think that it's a much better filter. Therefore I will get more and better use of the Grayl filter. PLEASE do not take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to be condescending or anything else. I'm just trying to explain why I use my filters the way that I do and why.

    I live in Brisbane, Australia and I’m a volunteer in the State Emergency Service. Generally I go out to find missing people in the bush and scrub.
    Summertime is a killer here with temperatures of 35 Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) average daytime temperature in summer. Humidity around 75%.
    I will start the day with a Thorzt (an icy- poll rehydration supplement) before I even get to the scrub, followed by a quart (litre) of water. During the search I’ll consume another 3-5 litres of water with hydralyte in every second litre). We usually will search for 10 hours in a day.
