Have always loved Cat Stevens. Great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was his Tea For The Tillerman. Peace Train is on the album Teaser & The Firecat. All the songs on both albums are great. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.
Out of the tumult of the late '60s, early seventies... Race riots, anti-war riots, college campuses in turmoil, assassinations, political upheaval, comes this quiet humble voice of hope and peace. His was a much needed voice of calm in an otherwise tumultuous time. A gift to the era.
So pretty much like we have it now. It really, I lived through all that. It was a collective desire to stop the madness. That’s what we need now. Stop all this madness.

Yousif Islam / Cat Stevens had stoppd playing music when he converted to Islam. He asked if it was really not allowed for Muslims to make music. He was told that it was allowed as long as the artist played without ego, the songs also had to have deeper meaning than boy / girl relationships. At the time Cat / Yousif was very active in the Peace Movement and had demonstrated against the planned first war USA and UK launched against Iraq. He started to play this song live again.
If you like jazz and appreciate great composition and instrumental perfection, you need to listen to Bob James version of Farandole from his album #2 in 1975. It will blow you away! And with very few exceptions his work over the past 60 years is outstanding in its consistency. A truly remarkable musician in the jazz relm. I'd love to see your reaction.
Absolutely one of my favorite artists. Eddy Vetter does covers of several Cat Stevens songs. Unfortunately when he was at the pinnacle of his career he suffered a life altering event and left the music industry for more than a decade.

This is one reason I feel you should always hear the studio recordings first, just to get the feel and the nuances of the original intent. That being said, please go back and listen to Leon Russel's studio recording of "Song for you". The trombone at the end will make you weep!

Here are 3 songs from 1980 - the closing song Katmandu, 1st Encore - Rock and Roll Never Forgets, which then goes into the closer Let It Rock. What you will see is that Bob is not only a great writer and singer - he is maybe even a better performer. Super high energy and he exudes joy. That's way I went to see him many times. He converted to Islam in 77 and changed his name to Yusef. He didn't play for 20 years. We the fans were heartbroken
