    I've lost track of how many times I"ve listened to this over the past decade - every time I ugly cry, every time it's more beautiful than the last. If Daniel's joik doesn't turn you inside out, you don't have a pulse.

    He is a fantastic artist. I met him like 20 years ago. I was with my brother at Daniels place. Jon had a smal key board. And when he started. I got chocked. It was just amazing. Daniel was my brothers best friend. We miss him every day. Daniel keep watching over us down here.

    As a woman with Samí ancestors and a mother to a Colombian born son I am very proud of Jon-Henrik! I have always loved the jojk and I am happy that so many young Samí artist spread it around in peoples minds. I wish I had that talent myself, came back from hiking in the mountain range yesterday and the views was so beautiful I wish I could give them a jojk.

    He became really famous, and has been competing in the Swedish national final for Eurovision - several times. It is always the 'Sami jojk', a traditional singing genre, but several times featering other artists, to make it even more pop-music.

    The Sami joik is not a song with lyrics; it is a song from the soul and heart. Even if you don’t understand the song, you understand the emotion. Daniel’s Joik still touches me today when I hear it. It goes deep within oneself, and you just find yourself. It’s hard to explain; it must be experienced.

    He is friends with my big brother, I've met him a few times, he was nice enough to drive me home on time when I missed the buss, he seems like a good and kind guy, and also he had a sick car and a cute dog. We used to get some reindeer meat and his dog played with our dog, I also think my brother used to visit him up where he lives with the reindeer but he also visit us in town, We also used to hear him sing before he even joined Talang, my brother used to record him on his phone, My mom asked my brother to ask him to record a cd at some point for her because she really adored his singing, Little did she know he would be famous one day , but she supported him before he was ^^ I still get very emotional and teary eyed when I hear him sing, I dont know if you know but he is from Colombia adopted into whats called a Samí family (kind of like Indians for Americans) ish...its at least closest thing I could resemble to. They usually live up north and hurdles reindeer and have beautiful folk gowns and their own traditional culture and they have this special way of singing called "Jojk" and that is what he is doing when he is singing. We dont really have many artists in Sweden using the jojk lots of them are private unknown Samí people who I gather just sings at home. Sometimes at least up here in both Sweden you sometimes see stuff spelt in both Swedish and in samish on signs and other things ^^
    Usually samí people I think can speak both damish and Swedish, at least Jon has spoken Swedish everything Ive heard him. Buth with a north accent. He overall is a cozy shy northener with a charming accent 😊
    I forgott the most important part, the man "Daniel" that Jon sings about was friends with my brother, ut was my brother who found him dead. They both were in Norway trying to earn money for a while and stayed at same apartment. It was very tragic for my brother he never really recovered from it, it was his best friend. So its very beautiful of Jon who was also friends with him to sing this song in his memory, Daniel visited us some times but I dont really remember much of him, I think im not sure but maby he used to shave his head and wear a red hoodie.
    It was a very tragic day, I remember it well 💔
    Bless his soul❤

    Great reaction!♥️ Most of the time I'm a metalhead, but outside the metal genre, Jon Henrik Fjällgren is my favourite artist. I'm so happy that you've found one of Sweden's National Treasures (in my opinion we have a few of those 😉). He actually won this competition, Sweden's got Talent, 2014. He was also the first runner up in Melodifestivalen (Try out for representing Sweden in Eurovision) in 2015. I highly recommend it! The song is called "Jag är fri" (=I am free).
    This chant/jojk comes from within, from the heart. Through Jon Henrik I've found other amazing Sami artists like Sofia Jannok and Maxida Märak.
    Also check out Jon Henrik's official music videos for "The way you make me feel" and "Mountain Dance". He've struggled a lot against mental health issues and "Mountain Dance" shows a bit of that.

    @sirseigan Месяц назад

    Note that he says that he "joik his friend" not that he "joik _about_ his friend". It is a very a very important distinction if you want to understand joik on a deeper level.
    A joik is much more then a cool song technique with few t no words in it. It is a connection to and capture of something's/someone's exitencial esscence of being. It is _not_ to describe something, nor to give a feeling of something. It is an invocation of something in order to get in touch with that something on a metaphysical level.
    The Sami culture and language is divided into many, often regional, sub-cultures and languages. _IF(!)_ I am informed correctly (a big if) then the modern north Sami joik is more melodic and more like we hear here. However in (some) south Sami traditions the joik is often more chant like and hypnotical and historically also used in a more shamanic way. It can for example be that you joik a artic hare and by doing so it is belived that it creates a spiritual connection to that individual hare's essence. That connection is then thought to allow a magic worker (nåjd/noaidi/"shaman") to communicate with said being. In some cases even transfer part of his own spirit/mind to inhabit the body and mind of said being and/or influence the action of that being. So when you joik an artic hare you do not joik _about_ said hare, merge with it and _become_ that hare during the joik.
    The ancient animistic worldview this springs from is not only fundamental to the Sami culture but it is eccential for Finnic as well as old Norse pre christian worldviews. Stuff that still are very much are part of the very foundation of the cultures and as such still very much relevant in society today, but are perhaps not always at the forefront of people's minds (if they are even aware of the connection).
    So the fact tha Jon-Hendrik talks about the circumstances around how and where he got the joik, and that it is presented not as his own creation but as a gift from his dead friend is not a coincidence, it is very much a part of the foundation. His joik is not meant to only connect and touch on a emotional level, it is meant to connect and touch on a spiritual level. He is offering the audience a chance of taking part of a spiritual connection to, and be touched by, the essence of his dead friend and their relationship. And from the facal expression and words of the judges I would say that he did d*mn fine job of that.

  • @Aragorn430
    @Aragorn430 2 месяца назад +2

    Therse no lyrics in joik.
    Jojk (also luohti, vuollie, leu'dd and juoiggus), Sami for singing, is an ancient Sami song, among the oldest in Europe. The term jojka originally comes from the Sami word juoigat. A jojk must not contain any words or sentences. You dont joik to a person, an animal, a nature fenomena or even a rock or a three. You joik THE person, animal, nature phenomena, rock or three. The joik is kind of the sound of their spirit.
    The sound of joik/jojk is comparable to the traditional chanting of some Native American cultures.
    Joik/jojk shares some features with the shamanistic cultures of Siberia, which mimic the sounds of nature

To name a few, Sweden has Sofia Jannok, and Norway has "the grand, old lady", Mari Boine, as well as Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen. I recommend "Mountain Dance" by Jon-Henrik, "Irene" by Sofia, "Eagle Brother" by Mari and "Ozan" (cover from Adjagas) by Ella Marie.
