IdrA is definitively one of the greatest heel in all of esports. He was easy to dislike, but not really objectionable beyond being bad manners. It was just a lot of fun to have him around.
He was a prick. Plain and simple, don't know why we have to pretend he wasn't.
I love how the crowd just goes dead silent, and day9's face. Holy shit these were the days.
I miss funday Mondays lmao... that shit is what got me thru school lol
@@jaybee8862 Yeah, I've gone through a few favourite content creators and their uhmm "comedic series" I believe is an accurate term to use. Back in the day it was Day9's funday monday and stuff, then Winter's different quirky series and now lately I've been mainly watching Harstem with his BGMWSS and IODIS among others, but also his other "normal content" like Harstem hour and Harstemcasts etc. I love that guy. 😄
@@jaybee8862 I never got passed newbie tuesday... I still feel like a 4 year old eating crayons when i play this game
@@erikkarlsson9192 BeastyQT had some crazy series of SC2 gameplay. Like "Never Attack to GM" or "build only Sentries to GM"
Nice throwback! Wish we had more villains in today's Sc2.
This brings back so many memories. Great video as always! Was pretty cool to watch these games again haha
Idra was also known for being one of the best foreign Starcraft players of all time, if not the best (if you include BW, and you definitely should). Early on he was also arguably the best SC2 Zerg in the world Koreans included. You did allude to this later but I just think it's only fair to mention that in addition to just calling out his negative characteristics. In any case, for all the hate he got constantly, the scene was way worse off having lost the excitement and drama that he provided.
Anyway, another classic idra moment was back in broodwar, TSL2 when he accidentally cancelled his natural CC and left the game in less than 2 minutes vs Nony hahaha.
Good video though ZG :)
Dude this video was so great!!! The explanations and examples were really good and hilarious...very well put together, thanks for sharing the history hahaha! Can't believe all this actually happened...
u werent loss
Damn the days when huk was in team liquid, I was a little surprised there wasn’t the combat ex matches in the video, a classic troll vs troll game, one of the first times I rooted for idra
Idra was the best heel in the business. Along with MC.
Enjoyed the video, I just wish the audio was normalised a little more.
zombiegrub has a channel? :-O cool, didn't know, subscribed
What a wonderfully written and edited video TGI Friday
I like to play Zerg because they're expendable, letting them fight to death provides a big fleshy violent slaughter; Idra could at least have let his opponent massacre his troops for the show...
That's the last thing a rager would do.
Yes, but the best he's able to.
He really did throw so many games
Nice nostalgia vid ;) Maybe something on WhiteRa?
the gracket gracked me up
Funny to look back at these classic games. These players wouldn't even make code A
I can't remember, but was Idra the player who gave the finger to his opponent during a tournament?
y lul
Yes, I believe it was Naniwa he flipped off.
Michael M no it was MC
Absolute legend
i thoght you were a young guy talking
Second match Idra vs MMA, wasn't that so he could drop to the loser's bracket and knock someone out? I thought his quit from that game was deliberate.
I don't remember hearing about this. It wouldn't surprise me if he recalled that series and said something along the lines of 'it was okay because the loser's bracket was doable (note IdrA lost to MC and didn't make top 4)' but I dont' think anyone can truly feel confident taking away their 'second life' deliberately.
Apparently it was about not having to face Losira and moving through the losers brackets to reach the finals. A dick move against the spirit of competition and still a huge part of what Idra brought to the SC2 scene
oh do you have a source for it?
Nothing first/second hand. A few forum posts/discussions but my flaky memory recalls it also being discussed during the broadcast. It's possible, sure but nowhere near 100% certain as I'm sure intentionally losing a game would be against the rules somewhere. Thought you might have some insight into the event as well but as stated he has had a few other cases where he's left matches what some could say very prematurely.
In the cast though, I believe they checked what Idra could see and could come to no conclusion as to why he left when he did. From the clip as you say, things were going okay for him. It also appears he didn't see the downing of the command center or push forward to see it not there (Been trying to watch it at a higher rez but the Australian internet hates people using it . . . )
"It's actually BoxeR, he's kind of a big deal, trust me on this" - I'm afraid we can"t really trust ZG on anything BoxeR related ^^
i think the one thing you can trust me on is that he is a big deal...
i still think its funny that MMA nuked his own CC with his tanks.
Awesome times... Bring back Grack and Naniwa pleeease
jeje your funny, ima subscribe (:
Bring idra back!
壮哉我大法克帝。。。
Damn I miss IdrA
MOAR HISTORY
Why was this downvoted so much?
IdrA.
The DSP of Starcraft.
fucking hell, idra vs huk was from 2011?
idra is still the best. he should have never been treated the way he was treated.
Hes awesome. I saw a stream of him recently and he legit waited there like 1-2 minutes while some jerk paused and then later unpaused without a warning. Then idras like
fuck you
love this guy
lmfao nice post XD
day9
Classic
I want a leather gracket too
That WHAT
Using hallucination to psychologically break a mentally volatile opponent is such a perfect use of the ability it’s practically RP’ing.
Man I miss the husky day9 sc2 days
We got a great scene today though.
Lol. I watched these games back in the day.
Wings of Liberty SC2 was SC2 at its best in all levels... I miss those days
@LowLinK He is a money hungry fame seeking weirdo now that does nothing but BS content.
So he probably never was genuine in the first place.
@@SaithMasu12 I checked and he says in this video he pulled out because of medical problems with his vocal chords from casting long hours, he left for awhile, he wasn't getting any better and it was too late to come back, especially after not communicating with anybody about anything. Don't ask what he's done to his hair.

@3:03 as a korean I found it really funny that all non koreans were called foreigners even via americans themselves. I totally forgot that bizarre sc culture. It made me nostalgia and chuckle for few minutes. Ty lol
Yeah that was hilarious, in a 2017 interview Artosis still referred to himself as a foreigner lol
Is that true that in order to date a korean girl you have to beat her dad in sc?
And now you have a worldwide K-drama culture
every game needs its own idra
We have EternalEnvy in Dota
its not the same
There's Dafran in Overwatch.
EternalEnvy is more of an annoying garbage eater, Idra was full on raging his ass off.
@dotatvru You, commenting on a SC video, mate????? Unexpected...
Idra really was great at SC2. His heart wasn't in it though, perhaps he had no heart :)
no heart of the swarm after all ... ... ... i see myself out ...
I love you MrTBSC
"FUCK OFF"
After playing Brood War professionally I think he eventually saw that SC2 lacked the strategic depth and mechanical intensity of Brood War. I remember after he got kicked off EG he said something like "SC2 pales in comparison to Brood War."
Ehm, no. He was shite.
I'm super happy to see a vid on Idra after so many years, he seems to be forgotten nowadays.
+Mitch Sup Couldn't have said it better
yup
this video made the win of the CENTURY!! (SENTRY)
i wonder what he is doing nowdays
@TheDiadara
There was a State of the Game relaunch that had him on it and apparently he's studying physics at university. He seemed a lot different and you could tell that he truly didn't like SC2 but seemed a lot happier and pleasant now.
Great video!~ Linking all the sources in the description is a nice touch that most people don't bother with, so thank you for that
I don't know of a more confused crowd. I remember watching that live and feeling the exact same thing. That was one of the more crazy moments in my eSports experience.
5:05 I would argue that "losing" or rather throwing that game against MMA must be even more hard/depressing knowing that MMA won the tournament, because that must almlst feel like throwing the entire tournament. Of course just because he could've beaten the player that eventually won the entire tournament doesn't mean IdrA would have done the same. But still, it would've been truly heart breaking if I was in his shoes.
"nostalgia or history or whatever..."
I'd call this "meme etymology"
Nice xd
IdrA was on another level during those days. He didn't play against anyone but himself. And he hated that guy. Then he became a caster and was castrated so nobody remembers his antics unless you were in the loop back then. I remember Day9 going over his matches on his stream and commenting on how clinical he was till he would make one mistake and quit. Usually there were about 4-5 games he would cover in an hour if not more when it came to IdrA.
I'd love to see him in his prime playing the kids today. That would be amazing.
i remember this game
I still play
Sooo.. does anyone know why IdrA quit the match with MMA ? Obviously his mineral line got cleared during the earlier drop, but he was just in the middle of the attack afterwards just as he gg'd
Moar analysis of how maybe IdrA could have won would have been nice. I mean, in order to try to justify that IdrA was wrong in tapping out...
4:41 Go through the audience and just look at their expressions.
Idra is to sc2 as sk deadman was to warcraft 3 frozen throne lol. maybe we'll hear some news about how idra got killed/murdered in the future
I love Day9 and DJ Weed's reaction to Idra just RQ, they're like "What?"
I might be miss-remembering after all this time, but wasn't there a match where Idra killed his own hatch, which was his last mining base and rage quit with almost maxed if not fully maxed out army while his opponent had about 4 supply in army and no money? That was Idra right?
yes it was.. he killed the hatch with mutas.. and tbh, i thought she would show that
jepepe01 no but there is a game in broodwar where idra accidwntly cancles his 2nd CC
There is a match where a Terran kills his own CC, and IdrA leaves the game.
Fleiva they did show that at 2:47
Mandela effect
Grack is our boy. He is still the best american player and was good enough to go up against koreans in korea, and beat them. He played a fantastic heel and SC2 would have sucked ass without his antics. Maybe grack and boxer will find each other again when sc3 comes out for android and iOS. Grack has a smart phone, right?
I used to watch any boxer videos I could find back in the day... (SCBW) Now, most players weren't even born when I watched them. Depressing.
Idra was the prototype for the stereotypic "salty patch zerg". He wrote the script for all salty zerg players who followed him.
This video was hilarious! Thnks 4 the vid Zombiegrub. zgbThumbs
ha! I'm glad I witnessed those games live when it happened. You should have included the legendary "you're all a bunch of fucks" outburst on stream that got him fired from EG and eventually retired from sc2. And how about a video of the other legend, Naniwa and his shenanigans? I miss those two, they were funny and really really good foreigners. I still hope Scarlett can go deep in GSL, she came so close twice to reaching ro16 now, that game vs Innovation, god damn how did she lose that...
omg i saw this shit live... im getting oooolddd
I'm glad Idra quit his comments were rude, he was always cocky and he quit games that he didn't need to just because he wasn't thinking about the his opponents units and abilities.
why did i already see this video from someone else than you. its like your taking the exact words from someone else mouth
Link?
If there is 1, only 1 unforgettable game in the world for me, it is the idraVsMMa game and d9 saying, did he just gg a won game?
Wow, watching a video about IdrA in 2017? Haven't heard that name since Huskystarcraft was murdered by his housemate.
This vid totally made my day.... Those GG faces are soo priceless😂😂😂 awesome stuff ZombieGrub
The spanish version of IDRA is named SKROS.. twitch skros you will find the devil reincarnated in a mexican :(
he can't be worse than avilo
...right?
The part of the video, where is the woman numbling, is totally irrelevant.
Hey what... you... you didnt include him coining the term Artosis Pylon...? When Artosis quintessentially warped the worst placed pylon to ever be warped in.. by any protoss ever...???
He's since been surpassed. I think it was Zest that recently powered his whole tech (robo, shrine, stargate etc) with a single pylon and lost that to a drop.
Someone explaining memes is worse that i thought
I LOVE HOW DAY[9] was there FOR BOTH HAHAHA
The real question IS why leave the party, fight , FIGHT FIIIIIIIIHGT
Goooood I remember Huk! I forgot about him for so long now. Crazzy to think that sc2 has been out for so long now.
Is it nostalgic history or historic nostalgia? Why not both?
I miss Idra almost as much as I do Husky
I was just watching ESL (you're on!) and my memory drifted back to that moment with huk and idra.. I got an erge to watch it again as i havent seen it since. found this video, didn't know you're making these. Great work! You really captured the nostalgia and even added some fresh fun facts :}
I miss those innocent early days that had heroes and villans and a story with a twisting plot.
It's also weird being a part of a community for over a decade and not knowing anyone :D Hello
I thought that Idra was a charming villain in Wings of Liberty days. He was talented and so angry. This is entertainment after all, so I think he added to the formula.
must say ... he did take a wellsuiting nick for himselm ... spewing toxic crap all over places like said mythological creature
wtf with the dislikes on the video? was solid, key idra rage quits
I'm trying to remember what game it was when he slammed one of his keyboards hard enough to actually lose one of its keys.
But yeah, I also remember Idra positively for "Release the Gracken" and of course coining the phrase "Artosis Pylon".
I miss idra's rage, current scene is so politically correct...
Cause alot of these nerds will always cry over and over and over about persons like Idra.
naw. scarlett brings out the worst in everyone lol
I miss idra's rage too but what does political correctness have to do with this? I swear people blame political correctness for everything. honestly, idra was a rager but he was fairly politically correct and a nice guy in person. he apologized for using "faggot" once, if i remember correctly.
tl;dr: its not political correctness, it's just the lack of a rager personality
So being polite and courteous in games is now considered politically correct? God, you people will complain when world peace is established too, right?
World peace? NO! Can you imagine the ridiculous population there'd be with that crap? People have to kill people, for the good of rent rates, and low milk prices.
I love how 4 years later the intro is still the same (and how yt instantly recommended this video to me after watching your Byun first person video xd).
you deserve way much more then you have
I remember how mad this guy was getting lol
Really liked the vid. Maybe add some BG music next time?
Aahhh, Those were the days. So many players and commentators with personality! Destiny & Minigun; Deezer, Idra, Husky, and many more.... :)
Everyone should hope they leave a legacy like Idra. The Babe Ruth of Starcraft.
Idra had no gas in the MMA game, there was no way he could defend the drop in his expansion. It was lost.
Totally forgot about The Gracket, I hope Greg still has it lol.
As much as he famously BMs, he seems to be a good sport about letting his team use things I would be embarrassed about in their marketing.
Well.... Toss has always been broken. And Zergs just laughable.
grack... you have to love asians
Zombiegrub you should do more videos of other memorable players
I'd like to do more history videos...but it's like making an essay...it's a lot of work beforehand T_T
Perhaps you could ask yr viewers for ideas and ask them to do part of the homework. Thanks for the Idra vs Huk video, I remember watching it in Husky Starcraft long ago.
One strong memory I have, that's missing here, was/is the RQ vs Whitera in the HDH invitational (back in beta iirc?). Then there was the rage vs a blink build by someone and finally there was drama with MC and IdrA flipping him off.
Edit here's the classic vs Whitera: ruclips.net/video/aZDpoJM-JDk/видео.html
I call it lore, because that is what it is. Chewers!
Avilo and Idra would be great friends if they could stop raging at one another
I still never think about Idra sometimes.
haha
i love that comment. Same. I think of the idra gg and I'm like wait, who was idra again?
Who was it when they were trying to proxy something, but the booths weren't so sound proof and the audience got so loud about it, the guy just quit on the spot becasue he felt the audience gave away his strategy. Just quit and walked off stage. Who was that? Anyone remember what I'm talking about?
Naniwa.
yup. its naniwalk.
yeah except the scout had nothing to do with the lack of soundproofing, it was sent ages before
IdrA... aceOMG
