Hey guys! So good to see you vlogging in my beautiful Chile. You have really made my mouth water as you taste a little bit of our culture and flavors. Home for me is now in Seattle with my husband John and our two children. Here is an interesting thing: John and I were so excited you were going to the top of San Cristobal because that is where John proposed just a few days before the 20th century finished. (We married 1 month later) The funny thing is that John happens to be Hungarian, and he bumped into your vlog as he was looking on RUclips for fresh videos of Hungary. We love traveling too and you guys have the perfect recipe to hook people like us. So we are following you since then. The thing is that on the day Nate hurt his toe we remembered that Nate also got sick in Hungary.... Sorry guys both of our countries have not been so great for Nate's health! Anyways, I'm writing a bit long here, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence. The good thing is that Nate seems to be getting better and that you finally made it to the top of San Cristobal and brought back some precious memories to us, a week after our 17th aniversary.
You're lucky! It is a really nice when locals recommend restaurants/foods for you! And it is almost always better than the touristy places. Have fun there! And stay safe! -Antti/Lanttimatkat
The translation of cazuela is right, it is a shallow and wide pot in which you can cook stew. The dish was named after the pot, similar to what happened with paella which was named after the huge frying pan. The word cazuela has roots from latin, while casserole comes from french.
Ok here’s my idea for merch for you guys...you should get some aprons made with your logo on it as well as some little airplanes. That would be adorable! Maybe do it for 500,000 subs!
So glad Nate is healing nicely! I have to say that I chuckled when he was telling us about the change in tours at the end with his underwear drying on the back of the sofa behind him! 😂😂
So great to see you wandering through the streets of Santiago! Haven't seen many travel youtubers do Chile so it's really exciting and makes me miss this awesome city. Ps I always get confused on how to eat corn on the cob! Especially in a soup!
Many South American countries make a dish very similar to the cazuela. In Ecuador where my Father was born, they it's called sancocho. Delicious! Can't wait to see your vlogs to Ecuador, it holds a special place in my heart.
I have been watching your VLOG since your visit to Netherlands with trying all those food that I am very familiar with. Since the pandemic, I have not been going on vacation ( my cruise to Japan was cancelled). Love your show; you are a lovely couple. Regards for Calif.
cazuela is the Spanish name for a casserole,in Chile it became a dish it self. Lucuma is also known in English as Eggfruit. huesillo is a dry peach and mote is cooked wheat.
the lady trying to explain mote con huesillo, lol...dried peaches (huesillo) cooked in sugar, water and cinnamon, and then once cooled, mixed with fresh cooked husked wheat (mote).
Guys! I've been watching your videos! love them all! I'm Chilean so I'm super glad that you loved my country but I got one question.... you wash your clothes with what??? thal bag said "acondicionador" that's hair conditioner!!!! I'm super curious about how that worked!! have a good one!
Good you two listened; nice shoes; I'm sure those toes appreciated a covering. 😊 Take care of your feet for which is your only carriage that takes your body anywhere. God bless 💖
8:50 I was wondering why it looked so familiar since I've never been in Santiago and then I remembered I visited it in geoguessr :'( BTW u really should do a video playing geoguessr
i'm late to the party and watching from the beginning, so I doubt you'll see this buried comment... but I am DYING to know where to find these long flowy shirts and tanks you are wearing Kara; I've been searching SO long and failing miserably. Then of course, I see you wearing the perfect things! Help a sister out!!!
Kara and Nate Thanks!! That's a really good point. We love your vlogs, we are vlogging at the moment in Hong Kong!! (Patrick Rossey's channel, if you're interested).
Seeing Kara struggle with that mysterious food called 'corn on the cob' reminded me that you guys are from Tennessee. (I'm from that strange place called Chicago,} Tennessee or not, you make excellent videos.
I know this answer is two years late, but anyways, it's called 'humita', it's only corn wraped in the corn leaves and coocked in water. We use to eat it with 'ensalada chilena' (tomato, onion and cilantro), tomato and basil or sugar, yes, sugar.

Wonderful that you get so many specific recommendations from locals! Much better than just reading recommendations on blogs.
Just me rewatching videos because I miss you guys!

Glad to see Nate survived. For awhile there didn't think he was going to. Steel toe safety shoes, that's the way to go.
Agreed, cultural experiences through ice cream are always great

the lady trying to explain mote con huesillo, lol...dried peaches (huesillo) cooked in sugar, water and cinnamon, and then once cooled, mixed with fresh cooked husked wheat (mote).
It's too bad you weren't able to do the wine tour. Chilean wine is my favourite! I would have loved to see where it comes from.
Luv Kara's editing..music etc. You wear your boots everywhere..don't carry..haha
you need to go to MERCADO CENTRAL.....BEST FOODS EVER
I wonder if you will be able to find a thrift shop where you can take your boots.
Your videos are amazing!

If you want a cultural ice cream try Cephalonia buffalo ice cream in Greece
Right at the end:
Nate: Stay away from that hole or it'll bite your foot off!
Quick question: how long does it take you to edit your vlogs? My boyfriend currently takes around 3 hours which seems ridiculous!!!
+Stella Rillstone 3 hours minimum! 3-5 for me. It's not ridiculous if you think about the normal 40 hours a week job :)
Kara and Nate Thanks!! That's a really good point. We love your vlogs, we are vlogging at the moment in Hong Kong!! (Patrick Rossey's channel, if you're interested).
Kara and Nate may I ask you how many GB has one video? I do some vids and its aprox 5min vid and 500mb.thanks
hahahaha kara that "acondicionador" that you use its for hair not for clothes lol 😂
Yeah I was wondering if anyone else noticed that...lol, but if it works it would sure be waaay cheaper than buying detergente to wash your clothes!
More food video please
Seeing Kara struggle with that mysterious food called 'corn on the cob' reminded me that you guys are from Tennessee. (I'm from that strange place called Chicago,} Tennessee or not, you make excellent videos.
Cazuela .... hmmmm ...jummy!

What is the item you purchased that is like a tamale? It looks delicious!

No comment about what is going on back home?
I am glad that Nate is finally wearing sneakers....but then Kara is still in sandals climbing hills...whats the deal with the sandals !!!
Hiking boots are THE WORST to carry around. Never doing that again lol
Is it just me or does Kara look like Meghan Markle when she wears sunglasses in this video?
Omg I love you
you wash the clothes, you used liquid hair conditioner, it is not detergent is to untangle the hair. haha
Love seeing all of Nate's undies drying on the couch.

This is like 2 years later but you used hair conditioner to wash your clothes lol

You're from the south and you don't know how to eat corn on the cob?
