Do you have any other tips that may not have been mentioned for someone about to try this out? I'm also worried the windows won't all fit together and I'm gonna be stuck having gaps.
Allysa Piiru You can cut most windows down around 1 inch plus or minus before getting too close to the glass. We had to do that on a few. You also might have to change your width , height or length a bit to accommodate the size windows you have. Window shopping was the hardest!. Go on Facebook and search old windows- you might luck up and find a vendor who mostly sells windows and would have a good selection.

When removing old window glazing, should always keep in mind that much old glazing contained asbestos. Should always wear a respirator when dealing with old glazing.
Not to mention old windows have lead paint too.
Gotta say, you have a most marvelous father. What wonderful memories of the two of you doing this together. Also a dad that would pre-build it and bring it to your house to rebuild with you. You got gold for parents. That is the best part of all this, and as a bonus you have a beautiful greenhouse.
You’re so blessed to have your dad. I lost mine at 8yrs old & at 51 I still miss him & wish he was here every single day. Cherish him & enjoy. Beautiful green house.

Your so blessed too have your daddy helping you. It was a learning curve for me. I don't have my daddy around but in spirit now. But son has picked up helping me when I need it. He just finished putting together the gifted green house from my sin from another mother. All but putting it up on a 4x4 frame. But he's going too help put together a new one from old Windows I've collect throughout the years and he's brought home from jobs he's done 2 windows in frames that raise and latch and one high window from a hotel that has one corner crack double panned they all 3 have nailing stripes and a storm screen door. I just have too buy screw and 2x4's and roofing panels. Thank you so much for sharing your build.

Hello from the UK! I'm collecting old windows for a greenhouse project in my allotment. A few years ago I spent my 58th birthday with my partner Dawn building a 'greenshed' ie part greenhouse, part shed, using old glazed doors. It was a glorious, sunny day and the best birthday I've ever had - so far anyway! I was wondering about the roof, but will be using 'corrugated roofing material' like you and your (one in a million) Dad 👍

Loved seeing your dad help you! It surely made my eyes tear up cuz my dad was much like yours. Nothing he wouldnt do to help me build something and mentor along the way. Cheers to a great job and it's beautiful! For me i will make it half as tall due to it being more like an english greenhouse a few feet below ground.

Donna we had about $2000 total in windows, wood and roofing, etc. A bit higher than we wanted, but it turned out better than we anticipated.

I was wondering if I could get a copy of the plans you made to help us out along the way? I love this idea so much and have acquired many plants since COVID19 started and I'm running out of room lol. If you can't, I understand, but I sure would be appreciative of it. I copied the list that @Southern Living gave and I noticed the treated lumber says 2x6. Just want to be extra sure that is correct. sara toki Honestly, I did not draw out a set, I sorta just go with what I think when Im building. The foundation boards are 2 x6 and all the header boards and the top center ridge for rafters is 2 x6, all else is 2 x4 . Ask me any questions and Ill be glad to help. wayneosmail@gmail.com

@@tearsofjoyforallthispain here in San Antonio TX we recently had the "big" trash come by which it comes ones a year for bigger trash items like sofas and mattresses and 5 houses down there was a home being remodeled all the 1920s windows where being dumped.... Urghh! I hate myself because I didn't grabbed them before the big dumpster truck hauled them off... Those sell for quiet alot here since it's so old but oh well I will be looking for others. My kids say I'm a hoader which is why I try to refrain myself but after this video I'm collecting them just ti house all my beautiful tropicals.

I just love how much effort your dad put into building this greenhouse for you. The fact that he built it once, took it all apart, and numbered all the pieces to make sure it was just right it's so sweet. And when you were describing what materials you are going to use I just could see how proud his eyes were that his daughter could scribe building materials and why they were being used.
