It’s the dairy component left over after making butter, hence the name “buttermilk” 😊 When you’re making butter, you take cream and agitate it so that the fat molecules thicken and bind together, creating butter. The liquid left behind after all of the fat has collected together is buttermilk. You can mimic this same liquid by adding an acid to regular milk and it will essentially turn into the same thing. Science is so cool ❤
I work in healthcare and I found myself Doing The Pam to soothe a patient. I'm not American so I would have different inflections but her tone is perfect!
you are a pleasure to listen and to watch. You are letting Americans know the basic tricks poorer countries have been using for decades. We dont have such thing as buttermilk in the supermarket, milk and lemon or vinegar is used in recipes to help rise the flour, common sense and basic chemistry!
Everyone needs a pam in their life and I didn't have one until I came across you ! I miss my grandma a lot but I feel better when I watch your videos 🙂
I’ll hate supermarkets from now on. I’ve been fooled!!! Pam you are saving your viewers money, time and anguish. You’re like a voice in the wilderness😊❤️🇵🇷
Honestly this channel is the best! Tips and tricks and info you can really use everyday! You have helped me so many times! Any time I come across something cooking or kitchen wise I need help with I head over to your channel because I know you have the solution!
This trick is so great. I cannot tell you how many times I threw out old buttermilk when I did not use the whole container for a recipe. And this trick works fine.
I THINK THAT IN THE BEGINNING IT DID HAVE SOME BUTTER FLAKES LEFT OVER FROM MAKING BUTTER BECAUSE FRESH UNPASTEURIZED MILK STRAIGHT FROM A JUST MILK COW WOULD BE STRAINED TO MAKE SURE THAT NO HAIRS FROM SWISHING TAILS AND TAIL SWATTED FLIES AND STOMPED DUST WAS REMOVED FROM THE MILK, THEN MY GRANDMOTHER WOULD COVER THE TOP OF THE JAR OR BOWL THAT SHE HAD STRAINED THE MILK INTO LEAVE IT SITTING OUT OF THE REFRIGERATOR TO LET THE BUTTER CREAM SEPARATE FROM THE THINNER MILK CONTENT THE BUTTER WOULD RISE TO THE TOP; SHE WOULD SPOON THAT INTO A QUART CANNING JAR AND GIVE THE JAR TO US GRANDCHILDREN TO SHAKE, ""YOU HAD TO WORK IF YOU CAME INSIDE"" IT REALLY WASN'T HARD WORK BUT THE JAR HAD TO BE SHAKEN UNTIL ALL THE BUTTER PARTICLES WERE STUCK TOGATHER FORMING BUTTER, AND ALL THE KIDS THAT WERE INSIDE (NO AIR CONDITIONER, JUST OPEN WINDOWS AND A FAN) GOT THEIR TURN OF SHAKING THAT JAR TO MAKE THAT BUTTER😅; THE LIQUID WAS POURED BACK INTO THE ORIGINAL STRAINED MILK TO SIT AT ROOM TEMP, TO 'CLABBER' THOUGH MOST OF THE BUTTER CREAM WAS REMOVED THERE WOULD STILL BE SOME LEFT BEHIND, GIVING THE 'CLABBERED' MILK A RICHER TASTE, THUS......... BUTTERMILK, IT TRULY IS YUMMY 😋
Thank you for sharing this tip . I am always needing 1 or 2 cups of buttermilk not enough to buy a half gallon to be wasted for . This idea is perfect for my needs . I appreciate your money saving hacks . 🌿🌹🌺🌺🌷⚘🍀🍀😁💕🤝🏼✌🏽
I swear, your content reminds me so much of the old episodes of Good Eats with Alton Brown that were on the Food Network (that’s a huge compliment; I love that show!❤) I’ve always been such a fan of quick snippets of useful information. You’re such a joy to watch!
My Betty Crocker cookbook saved my pancake recipe by having this pointer written in. It has worked well in every recipe in which I've tried it. I've used it on pancakes, bread, and cakes. Like you, I also normally use lemon juice. I've had equal results when using vinegar. Hoping your pointer helps someone out there who doesn't have buttermilk available. I LOVE your videos, especially the shorts.
You have a very soothing voice. You seem like the neighborhood grandma who always has a fresh batch of cookies baking, comforts her grand babies, has a ton of wisdom and really good advice and always tells the truth. Can you please be my grandma?
Oh thank you for this tip. I never buy buttermilk but when I need buttermilk I always go back to the store for it and most of it goes to waste. You just blessed me. Thanks
I hope you did this because I had requested it on another video! Lots of people dont know this simple tip, and I knew you would know about it and share it! Thanks! P.S. I shake mine up for instant thick buttermilk. Another quickie is a nephewinlaw from San Diego was visiting and he wanted to cook something with sweet and sour sauce. My sis didnt have any, so I whipped up grape jelly and soy sauce. He yelled out Ohh I Love Her!!!
You are too young to be Grandma so I will say you are the Auntie a lot of us need to get extra tips for cooking if you didn't learn from your Mother. Thank you for what you are doing!
I've been doing this for my pancakes and waffles for years. It adds a nice subtle zing (kind of like sour dough), and if you add baking soda near the end, it makes them super fluffy.
If you like this post. Watch this one next! ruclips.net/video/7uOcqK6R4-A/видео.html
Thanks for this, please can same one use fresh lemon 🍋 juice or it has only be bottled?.
Why do you choose the lemon juice? Is it something about the flavor? 🤔
@@lifeiseverything9 great question!!!
@@blc28x I don’t care for the smell of vinegar so I try not to use it. It’s a personal thing lol

Buttermilk these days is a bunch of probiotics fermenting acids. It's good like sour cream gogurt for psychos.

Wait buttermilk doesn’t have butter in it?
Yes buttermilk does have butter in it learned that in school .
No it doesn't contain butter. Traditional buttermilk is the liquid leftover after whole milk has been churned into butter.
