    That driver should have been JAILED. What a joke - how do you expect to deter people from behaving recklessly on the road with a punishment like that? A £400 fine and 6 points is nothing compared to the effects of the trauma to the victim, not to mention costs of the airlift, surgery, rehabilitation... our criminal justice system is a joke.

    • @adiladle
      @adiladle 5 лет назад +21

      people look at their radios all the time, whilst someone was injured and you never want that to happen, it's naive at best to think that people maintain concentration on the road at all times.

    • @je6874
      @je6874 5 лет назад +12

      Phoenix I get what you’re saying but it’s a weak argument against punishing those that cause injury due to inattention when driving. If your viewpoint would shape laws, people would get off with small punishments for manslaughter - “we can’t blame him, I mean you can’t expect people to keep their eyes on the road 100% of the time now”. It’s just not a good enough reason to not punish drivers that don’t take care on the road.

      I really don't what I would recommend has enough punishment. But the fine should be higher. We all need to remember that legal punishment is not revenge. While the driver is not physical injured. There is a chance he his psychological traumatised. While some might recommend jail time. Let's remember the taxi man pays for that as well.

    6 points and a £400 fine, I almost fell out of my seat of shock. How does this cost even remotely compensate the bloke for his injuries, loss of income and damage to property and most damning of all, the driver is still allowed to drive. No wonder there is 100 deaths a year as there is minor consequence for car drivers to take precautions.

    I used to hate having to wear a helmet on my bike and when I got my road bike around 15 y/o I told myself to always wear it because u know ur going hella fast and shit can happen. Well shit happened lol I was crossing the street and a car blew through the stop sign hitting me, causing me to flip (I think, it's all a blur) and land on my head breaking my helmet. When I got to the hospital everybody was shocked to see only my ear with busted and I had bruises. One thing they all said to me was my helmet literally saved my life. Now a year later I'm not riding on roads yet but I'm a huge believer in a way of ppl wearing helmets. Idc if ur on a scooter going 1 MPH u need a helmet cause I was probably doing 3 MPH and I could have died. Please please please wear ur helmet.

    I've been in two serious bike accidents in my life. One involved descending a steep hill and going into a turn that had gravel at the bottom of the bank. The bike slid out from under me and I slid head-first into the curb. The second accident involved going down a very steep hill at over 40 miles an hour and I actually went off the road and flipped over at least three times before landing in a ditch on the side of the road in a puddle. If I had crashed 150 feet ahead of where I ended up or 150 feet back, I would have hit nothing but rocks and I don't know if I'd still be alive. Had I not had a helmet in either of these two accidents, I know that I would have died. Both times, my helmet got destroyed, but it did its job...

    I got hit from behind by a landscape gardener in his truck. Survived with back injury and now permanent tinnitus. Police werent interested until I tracked driver down with reg no and found him on his website. Police interviewed him under caution but decided not to press charges as 'he was a hardworking guy'. So was I. I had to change employment due to that driver's actions. I am a driver. I am a cyclist. A husband and a father. Everyone has the right to use our roads. If you are competent then you can use the roads. All users should respect each other. Nobody has more rights. A lorry driver has no more rights than someone on a horse. The law in this country needs to change. Attitudes need to change. Some drivers are simply morons who think they own the road. Karma will prevail.

    I wish people on my cheerleading team knew not to move people when there's an injury. I remember I fell from several feet in the air directly onto my neck, knocking all the wind out of my body and leaving me with a cervical neck and back injury that left me stiff and in pain for months. A split second after I hit the floor, my teammates grabbed my limp arms and tried to yank me up, only to let me collapse back on the floor when they realized my whole body was limp and I couldn't move properly yet. I had to lay on the floor facedown for several minutes while my coach yelled at me until I could finally breathe and speak again. All of my internal organs hurt and I could stand straight. I had to watch for blood in my urine for days after the incident to see if my spleen had ruptured. I can't imagine what would've happened if I had really broken my neck and my teammates had yanked my body around like they did. I could've been permanently paralyzed. I'm glad I quit.

    The best way not to die from a cycling accident, would be not to cycle at all ;)... sorry, that was a bad joke. But on a serious note, it is awful when it happens to a person, but take comfort in knowing the overall benefit of cycling do far outweigh the risk, even when riding in traffic. The tremendous benefit of cycling is great, both to the individual, and to the society as a whole!

    Can we talk about how they use Miles per Hour and not Kilómetros per Hour? When the guy said he biked about 150 Miles from New Castle to London i was like omg huh??or how the suv was going like 60 MPH! how a UK based show gon use the American Measurement System and not the Metric one😭😂😂

    • @MrTuxy
      @MrTuxy 5 лет назад

      The UK is a metric country that still has all speed signs and laws in miles. They are imbeciles and the sooner they leave the EU the better! BTW Newcastle to London is actually a little over 500 KM

    Don't move them, but do CPR? Waaat that makes no sense. Wat if their in some weird position. Even if they are on their back CPR could still do damage couldn't It?

      Is the spinal chord is damaged moving it will almost always cause paralysis, yet if someone’s heart has stopped, not doing anything will leave the brain deprived of oxygen and it will die. If you do CPR then that person has a chance of survival that is higher than not doing anything, even if they end up paralysed

    Well, I think cyclists should ride on the road.
    Not just because most of them are slow.
    As a motorcycle rider, i wear full face, helmet, Kevlar jacket with shoulder, elbow pad and back protector, Kevlar pants with knee pad, Steel boot and gloves. And external air bag vest.
    Compare to us what they has? A brain Bucket, shorts and T shirt?
    How is that gonna protect you?

      Pedestrians can walk on NSL roads if there is no pavement. Other things that might be on NSL roads - slow moving tractors, driven cattle, wild animals. The onus should be on drivers to drive safely, and not see the 60mph limit as a target that must be met.

    • @Jk-oz5qn
      @Jk-oz5qn 3 года назад

      @@MarcoTheGreat2008 i know they can but drivers will regularly exceed to speed limit on those roads going 70-80 completely ignoring the fact there could be cyclists or pedestrians round the bend so they should really be thinking smart not just doing it because they can last sunday ive seen a mashed up bike on the side of a nsl road with two ambulances and a police car
