  • In the second installment of Off the Record Presents, we make the record-collector's version of the pilgrimage to Mecca vis-à-vis Joe Bussard's wonderful basement! Owner of one of the finest collections of prewar country, blues, and jazz records in the world, the late Mr. Bussard was one of the most famed and accessible names in the 78rpm world for generations.

    He made me appreciate the music on 78’s more than ever before? His collection was second too none. Not even the US National archives has, what he had. Miss you Joe Bussard. 1936-2022.

    somewhere in Joe's tape archive of home recordings is a tape of me and my best friend before he passed doing old time duets. Rip Jan Rogalski and Joe Bussard

    Fantastic job. Spent a day in Joe's basement about 15 years ago. He's every bit as amazing and rare and fun to listen to as his 78's.

      It's an Altec Lansing made in the 1960's. I believe the model is called a Laguna.

      @@ausfan100 it's "Now Goofy Dust" by Moten's band on Victor. Second version they did; first was on OKeh. Both are great.

      @@jacksongarrison8684 - YES YES! Thanks Garrison. You are spot on! I read elsewhere that someone at Victor got the title wrong on the record label. It should have read "NEW Goofy Dust" not "NOW".

      I think it's a Technics SP-15, or something similar, with a custom tonearm.
