- When training a dog to FETCH you must understand BACK CHAINING! This means teaching the LAST behavior in a sequence FIRST! This makes the learning process go faster and the final result stronger!
In this video I am focusing on teaching Maverick, the Golden Retriever puppy, that presenting me with the ball is the best thing ever!! Most dogs will naturally chase and pick up a toy BUT the bringing it back with enthusiasm every single time is another story! Back Chain the retrieve!

Thanks for not skipping the "long parts" this is what we actually need, sadly i taught my dog to drop too early so i have to start over from the beginning.
Thank you for teaching this!
Oh great Andy. Now I need to learn how to use the retractable leash !!! You’ve got me hooked on the two leash method, now This !!! Andy, I love Patreon!!! That’s where it’s at people. There’s a tier waiting for you.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Playing up the fence with a high drift dog is super smart, I hadn't thought of that! I play tug with my Rottie and a game from one of your videos on how to avoid injuries but still let the dog run after a ball
Game changer 🙌 👏 🙏
I love your content Andy! Keep going!
My old dog helped me train my puppy. Was so easy that way
Omgosh ! Thank you for this ❤
👍🏻
My girl will retrieve all day but love, love, love the fence and retractable combo. Can do this anywhere. Doesn't need to be secure. Great for when we are out with the camper van and just want to play a little where she can't be off leash. Love little hacks like this and ideas for fun interaction away from our more serious gundog training. Thanks 🙂
Love this, new subscriber, thanks 👍
Brilliant analogy of - the “finale” - love the humor - Patreon here -
Awesome!!! SO valuable to see how to build foundations with a pet dog...Can't put rules on it until they LOVE IT!! You're the BEST Andy--Patreon is rockin!!!🙌🙌👊
Hey Ashley. I hear your name when asking questions. It’s the best place to be. I’m on tier 1 and love it. Plus there’s so much on RUclips that supersedes everything thing else. Andy is the BEST.
Hey there! Lol yes, I do have many questions for Andy! I also LOVE Patreon, and never cease to be amazed at the progress one can achieve through long distance learning...from THE BEST, of course!!
Nym Net here: I have one genetically fetch-blessed, who I started training by accident with a pair of rolled up mittens. Those mittens are still intact and i still wear them! My other dog isn't keen on fetch, but loves football lol
Why has yt gone retrograde with the names?
How long does that ball company normally take to respond?
I mentioned the video and haven’t received a response
My dog has a perfect retrieve but only with truffles he digs... A ball becomes hos own property and yes isay out and he leaves in my hand but not like truffles...
Hey Andy, my puppy doesn't bite the ball but instead the rope. What should I do?
I have a video on that.
Scroll down to find it 👍🏻
@@AndyKrueger Ok, I really looked and couldn't find the video. You have too many :) What' is it called?
@@MuradKablan How to play with a ball on a string the right way.
Isnt it very bad to teach a herding or retriever dog to tug/eviscerate something they retrieved? Unless you want to teach them to hunt and kill of course...
Tugging for play otherwise is great, especially if the dog's breeding for behavior highlights that (or fetch, or working drive, etc.). I guess these days its more cool to make a chihuahua knpv dog than a great working line shepherd...
so after the session you keep the ball and leave him with the tought "i want that ball" ? did i understand this right?
would you recommend to train this only outside or can you train this also inside the house (16 weeks old puppy )?
cheers, thnx for the great content again!
Why is it so common not to train with the owner and just handing over your dog and let someone else train it?
Isnt it better to create that bond while training?
Do it with an English bulldog instead of a lab! Lmao
It’s a Golden 🙂
Hello andy big fan can u make a video on puppy litter training?
Litter training?
This is great, however my Malinois is missing the first step in actually chasing the ball 🥲
😱 You might want a DNA test!!!
