I started counting something like 4 in 6 out. Later that became 2 in, 3 out. Later, 1 in 2 out. Eventually it was just rhythmic panting, and finally it ended up as rhythmic vocalisation. It was really the counting and rhythm that helped me rather than any particular number!
The reason there is no counting for the up breathing is that everyone is different and, as you have found, you can be different at different times. If you are taught a count, even if the person says there is no need to stick to it, subconsciously you will try to reach it an then you tense up. When you tense up you produce adrenaline which inhibits the production of oxytocin and oxytocin is needed for the progress of labour. The images that go with the breathing making it more effective, work with your body, and help labour to progress better. KGHypnobirthing is logical and works well!

Thank you so much for these videos from the USA. I believe will be so helpful for my upcoming birth experience, my first :)
I fully agree! Thanks
Wonderful, I am definitely going to use this with my upcoming labor & birth! Thank you so much!
