This was one of the biggest songs of 1998. It was a dedication to Janet’s friend / stylist who died of AIDS. Can’t wait for Janet week 2 because there are still so many classics to power through: I hope “Sunset” by Caroline Polachek goes on your sunset playlist 😄 and yes the video edit cut off the chorus, the full song is like a minute longer - longer intro too
Janet Jackson holds the record for the most consecutive Top Ten entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart by a female artist with 18. She is the ONLY artist in the history of the chart to have 7 singles from 1 Album (Rhythm Nation) peak within the top 5 positions at once. She received a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock vocal performance for the song Black Cat which she wrote the lyrics and guitar riffs, making her the ONLY ARTIST IN HISTORY TO HAVE GRAMMY NOMINATIONS IN 5 MUSIC GENRE'S. Janet Jackson is the Blueprint for many female artists who have verbally acknowledged this fact like Beyonce, Britney Spears, Aaliyah, Ciara, Ariana, Jennifer Lopez , Selena, just to name a few. Janet is celebrating 50 years in the entertainment industry (includes Acting) since the age of 7. She is currently on tour at 57 years old and still dancing and singing .
That’s two Janets holding each other during the bridge. They were digitally combined in the shot. This song was from the 1997 album The Velvet Rope, which chronicles Janet’s journey toward self-acceptance during a rough period in her life. This image reflects her loving herself.
JANET WEEK 2 (In no particular order) 1. Rhythm Nation (1989) 2. The Pleasure Principal (1987) 3. I Get Lonely (1998) 4. Alright (1990) 5. Miss You Much (1989)
Janet has so many amazing songs. -that’s the way love goes. ( j-lo is in this one) -rhythm nation -miss you much -love will never do without you -nasty -when I think of you -pleasure Principle Janet is such an Icon!
Seems like you enjoyed Janet week , I think a week 2 is definitely needed. Together again was the 2nd biggest worldwide seller in the world that year ….the song started as a balled and has 3 prominent remixes with videos ….after some though she wanted to make it happy in celebration of her friends memories so they added a beat 🥰
This is probably one of the most beloved songs of all time. Coz how can U not love this song? Also Knowing the meaning behind the song makes it more emotional.
Ok so a week two for Janet is definitely needed because you guys haven’t even halfway scratched the surface of all how incredible Janet Jackson’s discography is so i need a week two from you guys and you won’t be disappointed if you do one. Also the abrupt ending of the song is just in the video on the album it is a slow fade out lol
I just remember her doing an interview when this song came out and saying there were no upbeat songs remembering the people we lost, it always sad, but she wanted a uplifting song to remember people that weren't with use anymore.
The song was written for her friend and make-up artist Kevyn Aucoin, when he passed away, it was rededicated to Michael after his passing. Janet was in Africa when this video was shot!
It was filmed in Los Angeles, California, with her brother Michael's giraffe and elephant being used for the shoot; the giraffe got away during the shoot, but it was found afterwards. Set in the Serengeti, Tanzania, the video depicts Jackson with mini red ponytails on her head. In the hug shot of Janet and Janet she is wearing a silver ring on each finger with a chain that connects to her silver bracelet. "Together Again" was a tribute from Jackson to a friend who had recently died from AIDS as well as AIDS victims and their families worldwide, as stated in the liner notes of The Velvet Rope. Originally written as a ballad, the track was re-arranged as a dance song. Jackson was reportedly inspired to write the song from her own personal experience, as well as a piece of fan-mail she received from a young boy in England who had lost his father. According to Jimmy Jam, "it had a deep meaning for her because it was about a friend she lost to AIDS, but as with all her songs, she tries to make them apply in a general sense to anybody. The idea was to make it a joyous song musically". The arrangement of the song was constructed in 30 minutes by Jam, Lewis and Jackson while in the recording studio. Once the melody was in place, Jackson finished writing the lyrics to the song. Janet released three versions of the song; the original dance pop version, the "Deep Remix", a R&B/hip hop version, and the "Deeper Remix", which is a R&B/soul remake. The original dance version was inspired by Donna Summer's "Last Dance".[2] Other remixes by DJ Premier, Tony Moran. Tony Humphries and Jonathan Peters were also released. The song was also included in the ending of "Janet Megamix 04". The song became Jackson's eighth number one on the Billboard Hot 100-the only U.S. chart-topper from The Velvet Rope-and peaked at number eight on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Together Again" also became one of the biggest-selling singles from a female artist in the history of the UK Singles Chart, where it peaked at number four. "Together Again" is Jackson's biggest international single, reaching the top five and top ten in many countries. It also received a BMI Pop Award for "Most Played Song". Two music videos were produced for "Together Again". The video for the original version was directed by Seb Janiak, choreographed by Tina Landon and is a dance video that shows Jackson and her dancers performing in a futuristic African paradise where people are seen living side by side with wild animals such as elephants, giraffes, and wildcats. In the scene where Jackson appears to be hugging herself, dancer Nikki Pantenburg served as Jackson's body double. This version received a nomination for Best Dance Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.
No.1 song for 2 weeks in America and sold nearly 7 million worldwide. The video depicts where the Bible speaks of paradise on earth after the resurrection. That's why you see humans interacting with lions and other would be dangerous animals. "In heaven we will be together again my baby". She's lost her dad, 2 brothers, and her mom is 92. God is always with you Janet🙏🏾
You’ll have to do a number 2 week just for the fact that Janet Jackson is one of the biggest and most influential artists of all time, 10 Number 1 Hits, 27 top 10 Hits, over 200 million records sold, Highest paid performer in history Twice and has the only album in history to have 7 Top 5 singles. She is a legend and was so huge it’s so hard to grasp the kinda celebrity she was in her hay day, she was the Rihanna/Beyoncé. My personal favorites are 1. Got Til Its Gone (super cool Afrocentric vibe) 2. That’s The Way Love Goes (nobody’s ever looked better in a video, like stunning) 3. Alright (the most fun musical/music video to watch) 4. Rhythm Nation (a classic, one of thee most influential videos of all time) 5. Love Will Never Do (Herb Ritts directed the video and he’s my favorite fashion photographer, so the aesthetic is nice)
I like how at first/years before or when I was a teenager listening to this song, it was just a fun wholesome song with a very heartfelt message. When I got older and at a time when I just lost my dad, I came across this song again and it was very different for me. The upbeat melody was still there but I was crying the whole time because it was a beautiful tribute to someone you loved. This was the song that made me break through my grief along with Mariah Carey's Butterfly.
Love Janet soo much and loved these reactions! I suggest doing a Charli XCX week! 5. Gone with Christine and the Queens 4. Boom Clap 3. Good Ones 2. 1999 1. Vroom Vroom
Enjoyed you guys Janet Jackson 5 video run but If you guys ever decide to do a part 2 here is another top 5 for you guys! 1. The Pleasure Principle 2. Rhythm Nation 3. I Get Lonely 4. That's The Way Love Goes 5. Black Cat
Since you love pre-made lists so much, here's your Janet week 2: 5) Rhythm nation 4) That's the way love goes 3) Got ’til It’s Gone 2) Made for now 1) Control
Janet week #2 and maybe 3 are needed. In no particular order, these should have definitely made the cut: 1) Miss You Much, 2) You Want This, 3) That's The Way Love Goes, 4) I Get Lonely, 5) Escapade, 6) Rhythm Nation, 7) Pleasure Principle, 8) Scream (ft. Michael Jackson), 9) Anytime, Any Place, 10) Doesn't Really Matter, 11) Alright 12) Busta Rhymes ft. Janet - What's It Gonna Be.
Yall need to do a Week 2. You don't know how big her discography is....All For You, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Doesn't Really Matter, IF (my personal favorite & that dance break is F'n iconic for a damn good reason), I Get Lonely, Come Back To Me...her body of work is ridiculous.❤🙌🏿🔥
There needs to be a Janet Jackson Week #2. Here are five more videos you can watch: - Doesn’t Really Matter - Any Time, Any Place - You Want This - That’s The Way Loves Goes - Love Will Never Do Without You
Hello Mike & Joe, just wanted to let you guys know that you are doing a fantastic job. I thoroughly enjoy the chemistry between the two of you, and that you are diverse in the artists/music that you review. Keep up the awesome work! I also love that you have reviewed two of favorite artists, Janet and Whitney. I would LOVE if you can do a second week on Janet, she has a GIANT catalog of hits, and there is so many classic, iconic songs videos to explore. Here are another 5 videos, and three bonus video if you bless us with another Janet week. 1) Miss U Much (make sure it's the extended video with the iconic chair dance routine at the end), 2) Nasty, 3) Rhythm Nation, 4) When I Think of You, 5) Escapade 6)Pleasure Principle, 7) That's The Way Love Goes , and 8) Love Will Never Do (Without You).... and this is just some of her amazing work. You won't regret it. Thank you again for such a great show.
She has just completed her latest tour which was called “ Together again “ ….which was her highest grossing EVER …and yes this was after the differences in inflation etc ….all this 42 years since her debut album
@@troyaturner1979Together Again sold more copies globally than That's The Way Love Goes it is Janet biggest record but That's The Way Love Goes will be her second.

While this song did go to #1 for a couple of weeks, what it was known for was how Long it stayed on the Hot 100 - somethings like 40 something weeks. Which, for the 1990's, was a pretty solid feat.
The first cd single i ever owned. I forfeited my easter eggs as a kid to get this one song on cd instead. Janet needs more recognition for her amazing presence!
I never would have known that I would need a positive memorial song in my life back then but it really helps on the rough days when I miss my dad, grandma, grandpa and brother in law.
Amazing song from Janet and one of her biggest hits. Love the reaction from you guys and you definitely need to do another week of janet with these songs starting with...What have you done for me lately, love will never do without you, Rhythm Nation, I get lonely, and that's the way love goes.
This song also has some amazing remixes. The Deeper remix is my favorite and it has a completely different video all on its own. That is Janet x two in that shot when you see her with herself near the tree.
You guys probably should check Poppy next. She’s a very diverse artist in terms of what music she produces. She considers herself post-genre cuz she can do anything from bubblegum pop to dark pop to rock to heavy metal to industrial… she released her latest single from her upcoming new album “Zig” called Knockoff. Other songs (with MVs) i’d recommend from her is: I disagree, Time Is Up, X, Lowlife and Flux.
I’m flabbergasted that Rhythm Nation and Pleasure Principle were not on the list. I can only surmise that younger people who only know her newer songs compiled the list.
If you think this is Janet’s #1, wait till you see Rhythm Nation. You cannot do a Janet Jackson week without Rhythm Nation, one of her signature tunes, a Grammy-winning video, and considered one of the greatest music videos of all time. The Janet stan didn't give you a good Top 5. Go Deep and Feedback aren't Top 5. Better ones include Miss You Much, Love Will Never Do (Without You) (directed by the legendary Herb Ritts), That's The Way Love Goes, Alright, I Get Lonely, Scream, Got ''til It's Gone (another Grammy winner), Runaway, You Want This, The Pleasure Principle (considered one of the best female videos of all time), Nasty, What Have You Done For Me Lately, When I Think of You, Doesn’t Really Matter. There's so many. Her catalogue is too big for 5.
As a Janetologist and only seeing her on the countdown only once I think it’s time I start submitting my list and put yall onto knowledge why she’s known as the Blueprint for her music, videos, and live performances. Tell me what I need to do to get my girl seen on this channel?
I watched and loved you reaction. Hope you will reconsider reacting to BLACKPINK currently the biggest girl group in the world. Would love to see your insights to the girls.

Janet holding Janet = part of the theme of the entire album (The Velvet Rope), which is an album about self reflection and embracing the self.
There are Aaliyah fans making lists for an Aaliyah week and I support that notion.
