Smart kid. He’s not just thinking about NFL, he knows if he doesn’t make it, that Stanford degree will take him far.
That is so old fashion to think that a Stanford degree with take you far. These kids will be successful no matter where they go to school.
Sam Iam it’s not old fashioned at all. School rankings makes a significant difference to employers. I’m not saying each school does not have something to offer, but going to an ivy school has its perks. Yes, you can still be successful going to another school, but the Stanford name will take your further and that’s the truth whether you like it or not.

I have a ton of respect for Emmitt Smith and his family. Glad to see Father first fan second. Great example. I hope the young man does well.
The relationships that this young man will be able to build while he's at Stanford is going to carry him out through life.
Wise choice, the networking at Stanford will give him more options outside the football career.
He'll get to play a game in the same stadium where Emmitt won Super Bowls XXVII (52-17 over Buffalo, which took place in UCLA's home stadium--and where Oregon will face Wisconsin in the upcoming Rose Bowl game) as a freshman AND junior, or if Stanford qualifies for the College Football Playoff in his freshman or senior seasons; & XXX (27-17 over the Steelers in Arizona State's home stadium, though it won't happen in his freshman year)

It shows me something about this kid choosing Stanford over several of the other schools where I would bet his path would be a little easier as far as the class work. Sure all schools make exceptions for their athletes but some more than others. Good for him and it is clear his mom seemed happy with his choice.

The best words from Emmitt, it’s his son’s journey not his, his son chose where to go.. emmitt is a very nice caring man, have always been a fan of his, born and raised here in Dallas and will always be a fan... of the player, and now his son will carry on the legacy of being a wonderful player at Stanford.
