    I walked on to my college football team after all the practices work outs 110 yd sprints coach called me to his office and awarded me my scholarship.......my position coach came by and congratulated me. I walked out of there on cloud nine the first person I called was my mama holding back tears she was so happy for me. It was one of the proudest days of my life to achieve my dream. I'm proud of these guys.

      This boi lyin his arse off... Even if it was a "small college" guess what... small colleges dont generally give athletic scholarships anyways... Kinda depressing the things people do to feel better about themselves

      French Doge looked up his name, dude put up 1400 yds and 23 td as a running back and 60 tackles and 2 forced fumbles as a defensive player and committed to south Alabama, which is a D1 school so they do give scholarships so very possible he’s telling the truth

    A lot of the younger viewers may not realize this, but getting on scholarship is basically like being given a new car, value-wise. Each year.

    • @afelaid7781
      @afelaid7781 7 лет назад +150

      a lot of old viewers may not realize this, but playing football for college is basically like having a job value-wise Each year

    • @dacypher22
      @dacypher22 7 лет назад +60

      afe laid Oh definitely. But it was a job that walk-ons were doing for free before. I was just noting that some younger people who don't understand how freakishly expensive college is may not understand why it is so emotional.

    • @ethan4w983
      @ethan4w983 7 лет назад +6

      dacypher22 a lot more than that

    • @dacypher22
      @dacypher22 7 лет назад +7

      Damian Lillard 2.0 Well, that depends on the car. A "new car" could be anywhere from $19k up to $100k and more. I would say $19k - $100k per year is about the value of a year of university through a scholarship, and most are going to be closer to the lower-end of that scale. Yes, some colleges get close to $100k or more in tuition, but the very expensive schools either don't have sports or they do not offer full-ride scholarships. An example would be Harvard. Yes, they have a football team but no they do not offer full-ride scholarships, just like all of the other Ivy League schools.

Although i never got to experience earning a scholarship like these men, In just 2 years as a walk on, i earned a spot on the travel team, earned playing time in every game, and left my senior year a bowl champion. Still a dream come true. Congratulations to these players though, huge huge accomplishment

    I remember when I got mine, and it’s hard to put it into words.
    You’re on a team where most of the guys already have a ‘ship, and don’t have the perspective of how important each day is. Each practice, each workout, each meeting.
    Life of a walk-on is impossible to understand unless you’ve lived it.

    I was a walk-on for Syracuse from 81-84. I didn’t need a scholarship, as both my parents were full-tenure professors, thus myself and my 6 siblings all qualified for a full-tuition employee scholarship. This video nonetheless resonates in so many ways, as there are so many that, as shown in this video, are in this for the love of the game. Juxtaposed to that are the full-ride athletic scholarship players that take it for granted and don’t even complete their degree program.... and one last note - another term for a walk-on to a football team, is “Human Tackling Dummy”, b/c chances are you’ll end up on the “Demo team”, essentially being an actor emulating the game behaviors and play selections that the coming week’s opponent will likely use

    Totally and completely magically. It is one thing to be a part of a team on this level. Most people will never experience meeting a second family that sometimes you questions if you love more than your biological family, but even more so...when you EARN your way to it by proving yourself day in and day out with NO PROMISE OF REWARD...that is magical!!!! I am so dam proud of every single one of these guys...and all the guys that are not in video!!

    I can watch these videos all day because these young men and women have to give 110% of themselves. I went to a big football college and it makes me sick the players are not allowed to profit from their likeness, name, or number being used to generate millions of dollars for the college. I think P.J. Fleck is a class act and wished he coached at my college.

      Lauren It means you weren’t offered a scholarship by the school, so you went there to that school on your own money, and tried out for the team and made it.
      Them getting put on scholarship means that the team decided they were good enough to use an athletic scholarship on, which they only have so many to use per NCAA rules.

    Anyone can get a full ride scholarship and get paid on top of it. It’s called serving your country. Spend 4 years in the military any branch any job and leave with a 4 year scholarship with the GI bill. I used it. It’s a phenomenal program.
