  • Manila, Philippines--“The X Factor UK” alum Seann Miley Moore, who is part-Filipino, revisits the Philippines as The Engineer (“EnginQUeer") in the new acclaimed production of Cameron Mackintosh’s “Miss Saigon.”
This new production of “Miss Saigon,” which features the popular songs “Sun and Moon” and “American Dream,” premieres this Saturday, March 23, at The Theatre at Solaire. It will run for a limited engagement until May 12.
BroadwayWorld just had an exclusive sit-down interview with Moore, during which we discussed how different this Laurence Connor-helmed production, which ran at the Sydney Opera House last year, is from the West End revival production staged in 2014, which also toured the UK, Ireland, and North America.
Revisiting their mother’s homeland, who’s originally from Makati City, Moore also fondly recalled their most vivid memories of the Philippines when they were younger.
A sung-through musical, “Miss Saigon,” which catapulted to global stages Filipino talents Lea Salonga, Eva Noblezada, and Rachelle Ann Go, features music by Claude-Michel Schonberg, with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil, adapted from the original French lyrics by Boublil. It also has additional new lyrics by Michael Mahler.

I was there too yesterday and I couldn't agree more that he stole the show. Of course he would give his best and we cannot take that way from him if he indeed continue to steal the show. Bravo! Kudos also to Chris! 👏👏👏

@@OliverOliveros Ohh. I wish I could have seen Abi. I want to be kind so I’ll just keep my opinion to myself hehe. But admire the hadwork and I know it’s not easy to do it almost everyday for weeks.

Just watched Miss Saigon, she did an ANAZING job of playing the engineer! So much dedication and life put into the character, lots of laughs as well!

Wow, such a swish "Engineer." What an oxymoron!

So basically, he recreated the Engineer to be a spunky gay guy…TOTAL DISREGARD OF THE CHARACTER.
Heck, why not have a black woman play Kim. How far do we really want to press the button of craziness.
Why not make Gigi lesbian because it suits the present woke culture.
Or make Chris an Asian guy, why not. In fact have the entire Vietnamese Army be hisapnic in the name of inclusion, diversity and equity.
Miss Saigon is so old and tiresome the best this production can do is apply wokeness.
Come up with a new musical, even a sequel where Tam turned into an adult gay guy in America played by Moore…THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.

That’s a great idea! I would love to play an Asian Chris! Talent and diversity should always be celebrated. Go watch a newer show like “The Notebook” and tell me that “wokeness casting,” as you say it, doesn’t work. Joanna Ampil playing the female “Engineer” in Sheffield.

@@earlhaven If a play or musical is specific to a certain race or time period or gender, then it should be portrayed according to the author’s vision whether it be Books, scripts, compositions. For example the book Dracula…the character is about a European prince from Transylvania. If this book turned into a Broadway play where Dracula is played by a gay black guy with nose piercings, it would be hard to swallow. I am not a fan of erasing original identities of musicals or plays just to satisfy the whim wokeness or DEI. I would much rather see an original work or piece meant for a lesbian, gay, person of color because that’s what the script asks for.
Heck ya, if you’re a hot Asian guy, why not :)

Oh brother, did you shell out any cash for the production? Did you get paid to direct? Did you sew the costumes? I take it, no, so you have the option to not watch it. There have been several musicals where I wasn't crazy about the production or the actors, I simply chose not to see it. Instead, you sit here and rant and rave with your narrow-mindedness. This speaks volumes about your character.
