There was plenty of time for Willie to stab the body a few times before Barnabas could reach him, and Willie would still have the scalpel to fend off Barnabas, even if it means killing Barnabas in self defense since Barnabas threatened to kill him. Willie seems to forget that Barnabas is now only a human and not a super strong vampire. If Barnabas were really in love with Vickey, he would sacrifice himself. Remember, if Barnabas dies, Adam dies, and Adam's threat to Vickey and all those at Collinwood ends, and for a bonus, Nicholas' plans for Adam and his mate would also be thwarted. Of course, Barnabas is too much of a draw for the show for the writers to kill him off, unless they bring him back as a vampire.
