The 'Thomas The Tank Engine' theme music is a marvel of harmonic sophistication disguised as a children's television theme -- here it is as turn-of-the-century stride piano.

You'd have a hard time convincing me that this song wasn't originally written as ragtime and adapted into the TV theme version.
I saw the title and thought "it wasn't already ragtime?"
Though it was later adapted into the not-ragtime "Thomas Anthem".
Agreed!
Finally, got here !
Based on maple leaf rag.
The bouncing bass line is a dead giveaway!
As long as the world still has 1 ragtime pianist left i think we will be ok
There are dozens, hence the existence of ragtime festivals.
We will be ok... ragtime is too epic there will always be ragtime pianists
"As he sat at the piano, George sighed. He raised his fingers to the keys, and hesitated long enough to steady his nerves. With a great effort of will, he looked down at a moire of sun-bleached grey ebony and yellow-brown ivory. He tried to convince himself not to give in to despair. Somewhere, in this post-apocalyptic hell-scape, there must be a piano that still had all its strings. His hands struck down for a simple chord progression, and he winced at the pained thunk that shook the old wooden frame. Not this one. George closed the lid on the keyboard reverently, absent-mindedly brushing dust on his pant leg, and wistfully looked off in the distance, seeing only the past in the clouds."
PS: Not meant as an insult, you just inspired me slightly XD
@@Keeper1st There are dozens of us! Dozens!
And if we ever run out… Time to start learning!
Yes! Glad you threw a bit of Take the A Train in there again!
Would have been rude not to! 😃
Thomas had never seen such talent before!
"Everything I know about people, I learned from Thomas The Tank Engine."
Scott Joplin would have been very happy with this! 😊 Great fun!
The ending of the original theme made me think it was by him haha
Since it was a British show it already sounded like it belonged in the early 1900s. Not exactly Ragtime but definitely from that era.
Even as a person who grew up on Thomas The Tank Engine, I can’t help but mentally insert the lyrics from the myriad Eminem and Biggie mashups whenever I hear this song.
C'MON M*********** C'MON
Ever noticed the drum sound effect cover on the biggie smalls one? That’s why it sounds so good ay
Raised a MASSIVE smile at the end of a hard week! Nice one, sir!
Scott will there be any sheets for this? I'll buy them immediately. I thought your Mario piece was exceptional, but this is genius!
Wow, only up for an hour and my first time seeing this channel? RUclips algorithm on FIRE today, this cover is great!!!
I loved the insert of "Take the A Train"!
(Thought it was "In The Mood" at first, but I was wrong)
Excellent adaptation. Hope you can adapt other themes used in the show when possible.
FUN! 🎉 Absolutely LOVE the nod to ‘The Duke’! 😉😄 Makes me smile…Enjoyed 44 years as a ‘Railroad Wife’!👌 Well done, Mr. B! 👍💖🎶
There's only one problem I have with your music, but it's a big one. You never release sheet music of your works!! IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!! FIX THAT, PLEASE!!!!
If Thomas the Tank was turned into a western
Wow that timing after 1:34 was majestic 🤯
Loved that arrangement, Scott, and enjoyed the A Train in the middle.
That was always such a bop and I am glad to have a ✨ sophisticated ✨ version to listen to 😂
Golly, it sure is fun watching that piano being played!! Thanks for an extra fun one, Scott!💚
Does anyone else besides me remember Shining Time Station?
I love Ragtime style music!
I'm getting marry today and this channel's song and pmj is been be with me from my travel to another city for my first job. Now I'm in another country for getting marry and glad to see new video is uploaded before go to wedding. Thank you for great music.
I think the original was already ragtime lol
can we get a ragtime version of The Dukes Of Hazzard Theme by Josh Turner/John Schneider?
I would love to see you do a duet with You Tuber Brendan Kavanagh, now that would be really worth watching. He's getting close to 2 million subscribers, but I don't think he could top your version of Wellerman.
Are you mad? He's only popular because of his click bait cheap videos, he's not on Scott's level, not even remotely. Who cares how many subscribers someone has, means nothing and certainly not a reliable indication of how skilled or talented someone is.
@@markfowlermusic I never said anything different, I think Brendan is talented, but Scott is more talented, which is why I think more people need to discover him. Say what you like about Brendan, and I think your comments are a bit unfair, but he sure knows how to gain an audience. One last thing, subscribers and views DO matter, and someone with Scott's fabulous talent deserves far more of both in my view.
@@Lilly8Listens the most talented and skilled musicians usually have low subscriber and view counts on RUclips or most social media platforms. Subscribers and views represent what is popular with audiences, to gain this you do not need to be remotely good at anything. A classical pianist could be very talented and just play unknown pieces no one is searching for online...this means they won't get any hits etc.. Now take a musician who is very average but only plays songs and music that are popular and people actively search for online and you see my point hopefully.. Most of the top musicians in the world probably don't even use youtube.
@@markfowlermusic No argument from me Mark.
@@Lilly8Listens Scott is a far more accomplished musician than that joker Dr K... I think you and me both agree it should be the other way round if life was fair to artists, Scott should be the one with 2 million subs that's all I'm saying. I think you agree with me anyway, sorry for being rude and abrupt, take care.
I wonder if he's just foot tapping to keep rhythm or doing some cool pedal technique
Now I have the image in my head of him playing this on top of a small rail car, just rolling down the track with no train as everyone watches in confusion lol
Are we allowed to use this?
I hope the original composer or composers hear this. They'd love it.
I thought they were both dead.
@@Tadfafty Eh... minor details...
@@Tadfafty I think Mike O'Donnell is still alive, because he actually left a comment on a video by user insaneintherainmusic, complimenting him on his arrangement of the same song. (If you haven't heard that one, by the way, please listen to it; it's just as fabulous.)
@@Tadfafty Mike O'Donnel is definitely still alive and has a RUclips and Twitter account :)
The theme for "Pinky and the Brain" is still the best.
Reminds me of those early 1900s Ice Cream Parlors
This is incredible, yet I feel the original is pretty close to ragtime already.
You play so very nicely and with your hands so flat, and it looks so weird to me lol
The Fat Controller (me) likes this. Luckily no one was hurt.
Did I hear "The A Train" improvised into that great performance?
Would have Sir Tohpham Hatt dancing!
Wonderful arrangement! It doesn't look like the sheet music is out yet? Any idea when it will be released?
Sounds a little jazzie... Hmm...
Thomas but it’s set in 1930s Chicago
Someone make a player piano roll of the Thomas theme
So today found out i like ragtime music lmao
Can you please do the Sting theme 🙏 ❤
Thomas The Tank Engine theme for grown ups!
This deserves millions and millions of views
🎉🎉❤😊
Does anyone else feel the prince of bel air theme in here as well
Who gave you the Confidence
0:08 sounds like super mario 2?
now that's some piani
This is the kind of music I imagine playing under a wacky chase scene in a silent comedy film.
Wow... I'm American, but this has me feeling like I'm in some kind of British pub in 1921 or something. Really nice, pretty innocent tune that DOES make wanna dance fast with someone.
I aspire to be like you
Ha ha, said to my self I want to listen to music today and then I see this :D But it does sound nice.
Love it Scott. Any plans to release the sheet music for this one?
Do you know that Tom Lehrer gave away all his songs to Public Domain? I would wrestle in mud with my own aunt for a record "Scott Bradlee plays Tom Lehrer" :)
Very good Performance, great Video and Sound
I love the tuning and tone of that piano. Fits perfectly for ragtime.
Classic
yuh
Dis popped up on my recommends and im already loving this (also Great Job Man!!!)
Thank you Scott, just wonderful.
I could never play this but quite frankly this just sounds sloppy. I have never heard of rag time before but hi just sounds like cramped, sloppy fast piano. You can’t ever hear the original piano version in this until her gets to the chorus. Just my opinion. You’d get better reactions playing the original version than this in public. It’s almost unrecognizable 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
God I love ragtime
It makes a good ragtime tune.
This is great! Would you please do a ragtime version of Maneater?
WHAT BEAUTIFUL ADAPTATION 🤯SCOTT BRADLEE 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wow! That was awesome! 😀🤩
I really enjoyed this!
An great adaptation, hope to see more
Honestly, this doesn't sound too different from the original version
Scott, 𝄆 bravo 𝄇
I always knew it was ragtime right from the bat
Accidently found your channel, please, play more!
I love your covers man
Nice weaving in of Take the A Train!
Sounds great!
A nod to Black and White Rag, Scott?
YOOOOOOOO THIS IS FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I see some horowitz technique there ;)
Love the tune
Holy fuck this is banging
The original is almost ragtime.
Oh, this is fantastic to wake up to!
That piano was in heaven.
God that was good.
Fantastic skill!
This was wonderful
we need a score of this.
Awesome :-D
Super!
Wonderful 👍🏻
This guys on some crazy stuff
I feel like the schizophrenia meds kick in at ~1:20 😂
Wonderful!
It had to be done! 👏
What a freakin Thomas. 👏
