I think it's the only thing in life guaranteed to make me grin like a child watching a magician. I don't think I could be angry and listening to rag at the same time, I'd have to just stop the music, finish being angry, then unpause. Helps that it was Nintendo games that made me love genres like ragtime, boogie woogie and blues piano in the first place.
Ragtime was the music the piano player at any American brothel (and every American brothel had it's own piano and player, almost always a black man) played to let potential customers know the girls were all on their periods so should be passed over, thus the name 'ragtime'.
@@RiC_David definitely - listening to most of the nintendo games - double dragon, castlevania, solstice, ff, zelda, man it's hard to think of how much effort went into those 4 track songs
GamingSquishy yea but you get the idea. I’m just not used to the idea of a song like the Charleston being called “Jazz” but hey that’s just me lol, I associate the word jazz with smooth jazz
Might be redundant considering it already has an old school jazzy vibe, but it'd be interesting to hear a Scott Bradlee version of "Jump Up, Super Star!" from Mario Odyssey.
Between creating PostModern Jukebox and his piano skills, Scott Bradlee is awesome beyond words. And the best part, he's just a cool guy. We all love ya, Scott ! Thank you so much !

My son, a huge fan of the game, really likes your rendition Scott. And he thought it was really cool when you pulled the controller out of the piano! :D Thanks.
Scott, you are not from this era, you are from a completely different era, a time when music was actually real music, that required incredible talent like yours! Thank you, thank you thank you thank you, for showing the world what we’ve been missing all these years, please don’t ever stop, you’re amazing!
This arrangement demonstrates that the Mario score was essentially already ragtime. This was true of pretty much all the classic Mario games on NES and SNES. Hence why they're so eccentrically bonkers and enjoyable.
I never realized I needed a black and white silent film of Super Mario Bros. with this dude playing the music off to the side on an old ass upright piano.
I found this video trying to search for Super Mario 2 ragtime! It's so perfect that someone must have done it, right? The select player music is SO CATCHY!
you practice. a lot. you first practice very slowly, but keep the rhythm the same. just slower. and then you gradually speed up with each successive practice session. he can probably play faster, but then the piece loses its musicality
I love this so much. everything about it. it's so fun and so well done. and shows how impressive you can be by reimagining something we all know by heart in a different style while still staying true to the song. it also shows your geeky/fun side. I love it
Nick Worrall how did you get the sheet music to this?? If you can, I would like sheet music for a particular song I’ve been trying to play by ear for over 17 years
Everything is better in Ragtime.

It makes me happy to hear the Super Mario Bros. 2 theme acknowledged as the ragtime-adjacent classic that it is. ♥
Jeez. There are hundreds of covers of MARIO melodies out there but this is on a different level. Beautifully done!
thanks, Scott for making me realize that it wasn't actually the GAME I was obsessed with - it was the MUSIC!!!!

I'm amazed how well this music fits in the ragtime genre. Such a beautiful and fun arrangement!
Koji Kondo loves ragtime and a lot of the original compositions, especially for super mario world were directly inspired by ragtime music!
That was bloody FANTASTIC!!! This musical style suited the melodies perfectly! It's like the music was ~meant~ to be played this way.
Still have to come back and listen to this about 10 times a year. Love it.

Beautifully done. I love how the sound of the coin box is included in the music.
It’s amazing how gifted this pianist is, who plays so well without a music sheet. Beautifully played.❤️
Will this be Nintendo Labo compatible?
If super mario bros was created in 1920s.
More like the 1900’s, Ragtime was a style of music most popular between the late 1890s and 1910s, by the 1920s it was Jazz music
Jeremy Xu swing music was in the 30’s. Jazz age was in the 20’s
GamingSquishy yea but you get the idea. I’m just not used to the idea of a song like the Charleston being called “Jazz” but hey that’s just me lol, I associate the word jazz with smooth jazz
In the 1920's New Orleans Jazz was the popular style actually.
Or if SMB was a silent movie

Or... he could make it into a modern pop song!!!!
He's arrangements are epic
Yes Scott its time to trade the vintage super Nintendo in for a switch
Yes! I really think that song is made for a PMJ rendition, including the original singer Kate Davis.
Another band did a dixieland remix of the athletic theme from SMW2, and I can clearly hear the family resemblance from ragtime to dixieland.
For me, SNES and Super Mario World will always be canon. Love it Scott!
Bloody marvellous Scott. Love it. Honestly your Piano skills are insane.
Your accuracy is baffling to me. I wish I had piano teachers who taught me the skills to play that way.

Truly gifted, thank you for sharing. God bless.
Awesome job Scott. I’ve played Ragtime before and that tempo is challenging.
The SMW pieces just bleed ragtime. Koji Kondo focused on this style in the original SNES ost.
