Did you make this track from the audio supplement on the DVD? The only reason I ask is that there is a track on the 2006 edition of the That's Entertainment soundtrack set. I haven't heard it, so I don't know how similar the take is.
She knew she wasn't the greatest singer ever, so she didn't try to pass herself off as one and release albums (unlike some people- looking at you, Bette Davis 😏)

This was certainly no voice for the Broadway stage, which is the type of actress she's portraying here. I like Crawford. She was no Bette Davis or Katharine Hepburn, but she had her moments.
She was just as good as them but had to fight to be taken seriously. She got shit scripts and had to make them work. The fact that Bette is constantly said to be better than her is crazy to me. They are equal. Different actresses, even sometimes similar, but equal. They offered Bette Mildred Pierce first, and Joan finally got a good script because Bette didn't want it. Joan then won the freaking Oscar but she wasn't first choice which was stupid and really shows how much her acting is underestimated.

Definitely from the original tape.
@@kuklafranandollie I don’t doubt it. I was just fascinated with such a sound coming out of 70 years ago
Wait a minute. Am I not in on the joke? All these comments are satire, right? A voice not fit for karaoke. Dane steps learned from a ballroom class in Queens. The comment at IMDB is downright hysterical.
You are the joke.
Just think, in the age of vocal doctoring and pioneering auto-tune Joan Crawford's voice might have been salvageable. As it was, she possessed neither the pitch nor the breath control to really inhabit the spirit of a powerful singer.
A Star indeed
I like Joan’s voice, it’s nice
She sings like Imogene Coco.
I liked her voice much better. Fits the scene moreso
This is fantastic! Thank you for posting, do you have the recording session in its entirety available? Would love to hear more of this! 🙏🙏
All the audio takes are on the DVD.
They used India Adams voice because she projected a bit more and sounded younger. Joans voice was beautiful, but it sounded like a woman in her fifties was singing (which she was).
VERY good singer
Wow how did you get this footage/soundtrack!!?
When released in 1953 was "Torch Song" exhibited in 4:3 ratio or 16:9 as seen here? Cheers
According to IMDB, the Aspect Ratio was 1.75 : 1. Some say it was shot 1.33 : 1 and cropped for theaters. The DVD uses 1.75 : 1.
Her voice was dubbed by India Adams that’s why her name is at the bottom of the video. It’s not Crawford’s voice.
God, how I love internet "experts". Did you read the note with the clip? Did you even watch the clip to hear Joan talking in the middle? I put India Adams name at the beginning because the first line is her voice. The rest is Joan's unused attempt that I restored. Sheesh.
@@GreatClips99 sorry
The Carol Burnett parody of this is good
She was so beautiful till her end and her voice was just like her look not ooff course the greatest singer but...
Was that Harry Morgan?
Jonathon Woodgate REALLY! I thought so too. Distinctive voice.
Diese Frau konnte wirklich alles im Film, klasse.
... aber singen konnte sie nicht und auch schauspielerisch war dieser Film eine Katastrophe.
buena.
