I found out recently that the castle house Preston Waters buys in Blank Check is actually in my neck of the woods, so of course I had to see it in person. This movie is crazy nostalgic for me growing up.
But to my surprise, the 4,000 sq ft home looks much different today than it did in 1993 during filming. It also is owned by a famous TX film director you might have heard of.
Blank Check (in the United Kingdom originally released as Blank Cheque) is a 1994 American comedy film directed by Rupert Wainwright and starring Brian Bonsall, Karen Duffy, Miguel Ferrer, James Rebhorn, Tone Lōc, Jayne Atkinson and Michael Lerner. It was released on February 11, 1994, by Walt Disney Pictures.
Blank Check was filmed in Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas. The castle house that Preston buys was filmed at the Pemberton Castle (Fisher Gideon House) at 1415 Wooldridge Drive in Austin, a Texas Historical Landmark, which is now owned by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. The theme park in the beginning of the movie was Six Flags Fiesta Texas; several of the park's attractions, including The Rattler and Power Surge, were filmed in this movie.
The bank featured in the movie is in the historic Alamo National Bank Building. The bank lobby was featured and it has a 23 story office tower above it. The building opened in 1929, and today houses the Drury Plaza Hotel.
It's a shame the house is completely covered by vegetation. The house is so much more interesting if you can see it.
Not everyone wants to be seen!
Just watched this with my 5 year old. Great memories
Mr Macintosh lives at that property
Yes
Water came with that name, If I came with a name I would say, its Mr. Max Zorin.
Watching the movie now with my daughter. Great Vlog!
Passed by today!

They front is completely different, I guessed they trimmed down the vines but you can visibly see the home now, but the vines are still on there but not as bad as it was in your video
OMG really
Yup! It’s not as bad as in this video
Eh. They could have used a completely different house for Preston's house and just made it look like it was on that street near the castle. But you did a great job investigating! I liked how you put the clips from the movie in your video! That was awesome! It's Still an all-time favorite movie of mine that I just watched last night which is what led me to your video now lol I was also listening to the soundtrack this morning.
Next year, "Blank Check" will be turning 30 years (since 1994).
And also Brian Bonsall who played Preston Walter in the film will be turning 42 years old.
Preston's house must have been the one at 8:35.
If you look at the tree that grows on the left to the driveway when Preston' s dad ia backing up, it must be the tree you can see in the distance, with the branch on the right. They look very alike.
They probably made the shot closer to their house, so that it looked as if it was located closer to the street than it actually was.
Oh man, I think you’re right! I was looking for a driveway that was shorter and closer to the street. Now I’m gonna have to go back lol Good eye, thanks a lot!
@@AdamWasHere I think i was wrong. I checked that tree on google maps and it isn't even similar. The one in the movie has this scar about 2m from the ground and the one I supposed was it, doesn't. Also, the direction is wrong. You actually pointed that out when Preston was riding his bike, that he came from the direction of that triangle park. Also his dad went from that way and there aren't too many houses there that would resemble their house. They probably used some other one in that area and just made it look close to the castle. But I guess even if the house is not there anymore, the tree is a good reference, unless it hasn't been cut down.
The extended entryway you talk about @6:52 was added for the film. It was not an original part of the castle, as you can see in historical photographs.
Yes! I realized this after the recording of this vlog. Thanks!
Director Robert Rodriguez lives in it. Learned this years ago. Is he still there?
Yes, I talk about this in the video :)
@@AdamWasHere sorry, I commented first then watched....whoops 🤪
Just comes to show how all these people moving in to Texas skyrocketed the house market now we can’t afford a decent house with our current pay rates 😒. Then again is Austin the mini California now. On the add it shows for that neighborhood homes it typically around the 610k mark now at almost 4.6 million for a 0.6 acre lot house up 68% greater than the median, that’s crazy!
Preston’s house was in San Antonio
Nice job dude
Some people like for their house to be covered in the greenery because if many different beliefs that are to their advantage when it comes to health..there are some countries where every building and home must be equally plant as it is square footage either inside or outside the home… so if there is 1500sqft of home then it must be 1500sqft of plants or greenery in or outside the house… most of the buildings and homes in those countries look just like this mansion.
ouch!
WTF? Can’t even see the building anymore
There are only 2 ways
Inherit it or Steal it
