What a beautiful video, Jason. The last scene at the site of the Grape property was so touching. You deserved that rock. Thank you for taking us along. 💜
Man DiCaprio was amazing in that film, especially for being an inexperienced young actor at the time... I don’t know if he did but he definitely deserved an award for that role. He played that character so convincingly, I had no clue he was even acting until I saw him in movies later on and became what he’s become!
I agree Nick he didn’t receive an Oscar for this role but he sure deserved it. I’ve always been a fan of his acting. The beach is one of my favorites also
Great video Jay! Me and my son unexpectedly visited the grocery store today and took some pics. We were driving back from Austin when I realized it was right off the interstate.

Thank you that is so flattering I really appreciate you my friend. Happy to hear that you enjoyed the travel videos I have such a great time out on the road so blessed and grateful to be able to share these moments with you and everyone :-) thank you
I felt nostalgic watching your vlog. Thank you for taking us around the film location of this emotionally intense movie where I first saw Johnny Depp and Leonardo di Caprio. I loved the movie and I admired the acting ability of the two men.
Wow! This was a nice surprise! I LOVE this movie and Leonardo is my fav actor. I actually cried seeing the property of the house, so happy that you made a video of this. I love filming locations and if I didn’t have kids I’d be doing this same thing as a job. Can’t wait for the next one Jay! 👊🏻 Exceptional work 👏🏻
My sister watched this film AFTER Titanic, she didn’t believe that it was Leonardo in both films, I had to prove it and show her evidence, true story! He’s a brilliant actor still to this day he should get an Oscar for all the films he’s been in 😎
Jay, thanks for bringing us all these great filming locations. These small towns are awesome. I hope you keep bringing us filming locations. Thank you for all you do. You do great work man.
Thanks for coming along with me it wouldn’t be the same without the fan to appreciate these movies. This is one of my favorite filming location endeavors till this day
Thank you for this...the story was relatable for me as I had family in Missouri that was similar to Grape family. That movie will always be 1 of my favorites!!!!!!❤
Thank you for watching my friend I made this video for people who can relate to it as you can. Appreciate you so much hope you have a wonderful evening :)
I have extended family in Pennsylvania who are similar to the Grape family, one of my girl cousins is like Arnie. Their mom had Parkinson’s Disease, dad had died in an accident at work.
Hi Tampa Jay! Another great filming location video! 2 min into your video, I realized I’ve never seen “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” So before I went any further, I went on Netflix to watch it. Wow, great movie. After the movie, I went back to watch your film/RUclips video. Amazing job! I can’t believe how many miles you had to travel to capture It all. Very impressive and great investigative work! One of your best so far! I truly enjoyed it and watching the original film. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to seeing more!
Great filming location Jay. I really enjoyed this film. Everyone did a great job especially Leonardo Dicaprio and Darlene Cates (RIP) who played the mom.
Great job, I am from this area, Just a couple things to add to your info, Manor is pronounced Main-or, Coupland is pronounced Cope-lend and the part where the Burger Barn is, is in My hometown of Elgin in the parking lot of Southside market and BBQ. Thanks for doing this it was very informative.
Hey, Tampa Jay! I found your video because I searched for reviews of What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Your location tour video showed up, and I am glad I found your channel. I have been watching many of your videos today because I have enjoyed your enthusiasm and knowledge. Great work! I cannot wait to see what is ahead.
the inside scences of the house were filmed at quick sand farms in Travis county texas the outside scences of the house were filmed at the one that was burnt down
Absolutely loved the video, man! I live in New Braunfels about 30 minutes from Lockhart. Watching the movie again at the courthouse scene I thought that looked familiar! Definitely going to have to make a trip to Manor grocery here soon!
This is awesome! I’m a native Texan myself, and know where a lot of movies have been filmed here, but I had no idea Gilbert Grape was filmed in Texas! I’m gonna have to go and see Depp’s prints in Manor! Imogen Poots filmed a couple scenes where I live, in Schulenburg, for a movie called A Country Called Home. I also know Michael with John Travolta was filmed here when I was a kid, and Transformers 4 was partly filmed in Manor. Also more recently, Tree of Life shot some scenes in neighboring La Grange, just 20 mins from me
Update! I finally visited Manor TX yesterday and got some photos of some of the locations that were used for filming. As well as photos of Johnny Depp’s initials, footprint and date in front of the grocery store that Depp’s character worked at in the movie
The movie hit home. I saw it for the first time last night. The mother reminds me of my mother and the mentally Ill brother reminds me of my brother 😢😢😢 I was watching my life
Tampa, this video is brilliant! I loved this movie too! All the acting was spectacular! I have a friend that lives in Pflugerville. I live in Iowa and stupid me thought it was really filmed here. lol! Live and learn I guess! Thanks Tampa!

Jay - I loved this video. I actually followed you on this video using Google Maps and was able to see exactly where you were at each location. Very nostalgic to see where the Grape house was located and how the area around there has been majorly developed since the film came out. Keep up the good work! 😊
One of my favorite movies as well. I live in Austin and visited Manor one day to see the grocery store. But didn't visit the other locations you went to. HEB stands for Howard E Butt the founder of the grocery chain. I worked for HEB for many years during my University days. Was surprised to see you were visiting Austin and hope all went well. This movie doesn't appeal to everyone but I agree that it is very special and deep. Take care and thanks for all you do.
I knew it!!!!!! I ate at a whataburger back in June 1990 in Tallahassee, Florida. I always thought That may be I was mistaken , but no. You just confirmed it. Thanks

I appreciate your videos you cover all genres. However ive seen some that specifically do filming locations. I must say yours in my opinion are the very best. Research, attention to detail is second to none. Appreciate all your hard work that goes into these. Thank you so much 👏👏👏👌
Thanks Jay! I appreciate the awkwardness you go through!! I would be too embarrassed, haha. I never seen the movie! I was 12yrs old @ the time. Going to watch it though.
Wow, being from Texas I honestly had no idea it was filmed here. Or maybe I just forgot, cause I haven't seen it in 20 years. Incredible movie though. And watching clips of it now as an adult makes me tear up whereas as a kid watching it so long ago it didn't really hit me as strong. This movie is proof though that Leo is hands down one of the greatest actors of all time.
The movie Best Little Whore House in Texas was also filmed in Pflugerville in the early 1980's. Its still there today. About 9 years ago I was taking building materials out to the old house that is a few miles east of Pflug. The old guy David, gave me a tour. There is a turret in front that had the interior plaster removed and written on the wall S&R 1911. He explained that the house is a Sear's and Roebuck kit home. I haven't seen the Lockhart square since 1976 when my brother was hired to be in a Coca-Cola bicentennial commercial. I spent a cold January day there participating in a parade freezing but acting like it was the 4th of July. I lived between Manor and Pflugerville growing up.
Mmmm What-a-burger. I never went to them or appreciated it when they were in Tampa. It wasn’t until I lived in Texas that I learned to appreciate Whataburger. Now I miss it so much I strategically plan my layovers at Texas airports that have Whataburger.
It is amazing how we humans need to keep alive our childhood. Exploring whether the places remained same as they used to be gives us some peace, it sort of confirms that our younger selves have not disappeared.
Lockhardt was a beautiful little town wish I could have shown more of what was going on there. You should have a good time there I’m speculating. Thanks for watching
I love these filming locations! Definitely one of my favorite films but it’s so depressing. I didn’t realize it was filmed in Texas. I may have to take a trip to see the water tower for myself! Did you make it to Buc-ee’s during your stay?

I know right! It's so ironic what happened to that house at the end, and how it ended up in real life.
