I think that it's so easy to hate corporations while missing out on all the benefits they provide to our lives on a daily basis. It's easy to hate them when politicians paint targets on them, but just think about all of the products and services available to use that wouldn't be were it not for the corporate model. In some ways they *do* pass savings on to us when they are not overburdened by taxation and regulation-- we just don't readily see that as much as, for example, the cost of living and food and goods rising. Think about this next time you get to finance your shiny new cell phone (an amazing piece of tech made possible by corporations) through your phone carrier. You want all that to be more expensive, then tax the hell out of corporations. You want it to be cheaper, let the corporations compete with each other by allowing more of them to exist. You want your roads fixed, talk to the politicians who don't talk about raising corporate taxes to achieve everything. Ignore the ones that say things like "fair share".

There needs to be a Minimum Alternate Tax for so-called non-profits. Many billionaires set up non-profits to create tax evasion vehicles/tax shelters and then donate shares to these non-profits that they control. They get to write off the market value of that donation, and when the non-profit sells those shares, their tax-exempt status enables them to evade capital gains taxes. Most non-profits (especially religious non-profits) do not benefit the vast majority of the people they were intended to benefit and are merely conduits for such financial shenanigans. Many masquerade under misleading names such as "Americans for Prosperity" but work to only make prosperous a small group of people at the expense of the majority.

If the long term capital gains rate is 28%, does this apply to all of us or only those with capital gains over $1M? If that applies to all of us, say on the sale of a non-primary home, then the extra 5% is applied with gains over $1M?
