I entertained the journey into painting on paper in May of this year ( before I have painted on children’s clothes in the 1980’s when craft fabric paint was popular, then in my 20’s for 10 years I threw pottery and using brushes painted on the glaze ) so now I use water color mostly the first on line class I took suggested way too many supplies, which I bought 😢, so I have inexpensive craft gouache ( Arteza & Essentials) I understand that this is opaque, yet I have not found anyone using both regular WC and gouache together… so I guess they use it by itself…

Arteza is perfectly wonderful to get started! I hear their line of acrylics are fun to use also! As for using together, both are going to be water soluble and reactivate with water after drying. The only thing you might consider when mixing is avoiding getting the gouache directly in your pans of watercolor, but that is really more because you probably don't want to add opacity to your pan of color. I would absolutely add it to my mixing wells, etc. where I can control the mix. I might grab a set also and throw up a couple of videos, but in the meantime, I can demonstrate how I use white gouache with my watercolor! 💜

Just completed- quite nice and I hand wrote that message - question, I am new to watercolor and I bought “ gouache” I understand it is opaque but feel uneasy using it- by any chance by you use this? And if so can you show a creation example oh how to use this paint? Thank you I so look forward to your demonstration s 🥰🎨

Oh awesome! I hope you enjoyed it! As for gouache, I have used it before, but I do not own any currently. I have had my eye on some gouache lately though! If you don't mind me asking, what kind do you have? I am not a pro at gouache, but I have worked with the traditional gouache (non-permanent). You can also get acryl-gouache which has acrylic paint qualities and so I believe it dries permanently, which is unlike regular, which can re-wet similar to watercolor. I find gouache to be a very nice matte paint, which can be thinned out to be more the consistency of watercolor also, if you want the transparency. It can also re-wet and be reworked in layers, but has that nice opacity if you layer it more thickly. You might have given me an excuse to go get some! lol But either way, I encourage you to crack it open and give it a whirl! Gouche is a lot of fun to play with, and depending on what kind of background you like, it may end up being your preferred medium in certain circumstances. Another way to play with gouache is to get a tube of white gouache and you can mix it in your regular watercolors and make them a bit lighter and more opaque! You can get really nice pastel colors that way too. 🙂💜

I guess I should clarify - I don't own a gouache set right now, but I do keep a couple of tubes of white handy in case I want to mix it 🙂
