When Gregg died, I walked from my house across the river to Rose Hill Cemetery to attend the service. President Carter and Cher were in attendance. Thanks for sharing your adventure in Macon.

Thanks for this. My old stomping grounds for a few of my teenage years. I had a very significant time at that gravesite once looong ago.
At 57 many good and faithful friends have passed, and only the evil backstabbing ones remain! Ain’t that some crap!

I have to comment on this one. You are in my old stomping grounds buddy. Thank you so much for highlighting some of our states awesome stories. I was at Gregg's gravesite the day after he was buried. I wasn't able to make the service due to other commitments. I knew him and the rest of the guys slightly. I worked at the Medical Center of Central Ga. as a paramedic and worked the concert at the City Auditorium where they recorded An Evening with the Allman Brothers. I was able to meet the band. They were all very nice and genuine. I saw Gregg years later and he actually recalled my name and exactly where we had met. It was a sad day when we lost him for sure. Thanks again for these videos. Lots of memories there for me.

One of your many talents is story-telling. I'm so thankful for the hard work and dedication you put into vlogs that require a person's history from the beginning of their life until the end. I've really enjoyed how this trip has peaked my interest in doing a deep dive into every single person's life who have featured. It is all so interesting to me! I can only imagine how thrilled your mom must be that she was part of this adventure.

Wow it is hard to believe that Duane and Barry have been gone that long and they were so young. I guess one can appreciate they both died doing something they loved riding motorcycles. How sad. It was such a sad day for music when they were lost. Thank you Gregg for carrying on, I am sure Duane watched you from above and was very proud of all you did. Rest in Peace guys.

That's so sad about the two brothers who both had motorcycle crashes. It's nice that all three are in the same place now, and how wonderful that your Mom has gotten to go to all of those important places related to the Allman brothers......I know she must appreciate you doing that for her, Jordan. You're such a nice guy, and $160 parking ticket was surely worth pleasing your Mom that way. What a nice tribute she had for her birthday that year, and she'll have it forever now...thanks again to YOU! Thanks for the vlog, Jordan.

Thanks for this!! Been there myself and good to know that you appreciate good musicians and good music. I got into the Allman Bros. when I was 15 and Flock Of Seagulls was the big thing of the day. I had my dad drive me to a Dickey Betts show at the Golden Bear. 1985. Good to know that young people still care about quality.

I just finished watching this. It was wonderful. I have grown more fond of Gregg and the Allman Brothers as the years have passed. I loved his autobiography. And I now realize that, in the morning, I am going to have to dig out his last CD and put it in the player in my car. What a neat old cemetery. I am glad that you had your Mom there with you.
Rest in Peace. Gregg, Duane and Berry.

I just wanted to ad that from what I had heard through the grapevine, that Duane Allman had hit a fruit truck that day and Gregg made the Eat A Peach album which was to be a tribute to his late brother, all the same it's so sad to lose someone at such an early age. R.I.P. Duane, Barry, and Gregg who are all joined in rock "n" roll heaven.

Hi Jordan Personally I’d like to say a huge thank you for bringing this piece of history back to life. I’m a resident of Macon Ga and unfortunately some of the things that should be memorialized are not and it’s sad because it’s history that people unless people like you keep it alive won’t ever truly know. There has been many attempts to have the crash sites memorialized over the years unfortunately the city claims lack of monetary funds to do so. I love you vlogs thank you for doing what you do. Would love to see you do more in the GA area there is so much forgotten cool history here that people unfortunately will never fully know.

i'm from Macon. your story of Duane being buried almost a year after he passed is a new one. my cousin, a hair stylist, used to cut their hair. well trimming the ends was more the case. my cousin, Jimmie DeLoach, prepared Duane's body for the funeral. he was suppose to do the same for Barry Oakley, but Barry's parents were devote Baptists, and they wanted their son's hair cut short, and his sideburns shaved off. my cousin Jimmie refused to do that. so i'm assuming that's what happened. BTW Jimmie passed almost 2 years before Gregg did. otherwise he would have prepared Gregg's body too. one other fact, Gregg played the midnight Rider for us at Jimmie's salon on a flattop guitar, and a small glass baby bottle he used as a slide. a lot of folks never knew how well Gregg played guitar, because he was always playing keyboards on stage. but he wrote most of his songs on guitar.

Rose Hill is on my bucket list for sure. Not only so much ABB history there, just the incredible history of that cemetery itself. If you listen to the lyrics of Melissa, there's a lot of imagery from the cemetery written in the song. The part about the train and the river especially. Gregg was also quoted as saying that Duane loved that song so much he would say to Gregg, "Play that song about the girl!" Melissa is my favorite ABB song too. I'm so surprised that fence was unlocked the day you went, I'm glad it was though because it allowed your Mom to get close to Gregg, Duane, and Berry's resting place to pay her respects! Great job, and thank you for taking us along with you! 🍑🍄✌️❤️

    • @jamesdean9183
      @jamesdean9183 2 месяца назад

Melissa was written by Gregg long before the move to Macon, so I don’t think the lyrics have any intentional connection to Rose Hill.
Gregg wrote the lyrics in 1967, the ABB didn’t move to Macon until 1969.

I’m sure someone has already pointed this out, but the Capricorn Studio was never torn down. In fact the actual room that the artists recorded in is pretty much untouched from 1972, with all the original furnishings, carpet, and everything. You can now tour the studio, I myself have been twice and it’s a must-see in Macon :)

James Marshall took the iconic picture of Hendrix for the cover of the “Hendrix In The West album.” Love the vlog Jordan, man it’s sad that life is sometimes so short and ends so unexpectedly. How eerily similar that Duane & Barry both died on motorbikes so close in proximity, 12 days to the year. Loved the cemetery & railroad track. The tombstone of Elizabeth Reed was awesome 😎In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed is the greatest song by the Allman Bros. In my opinion, also in the top 5 in Rock history.🎸 Thanks ( and your Mom) for keeping the spirit alive ❤️

@gavan hillebold: loved this blog as it got me as close to these sites as I'll ever be. One quibble: Elizabeth Reed was actually written by Dickey Betts, not the entire band. That grave was a live tryst site he shared when he was with the woman who later married Boz Scaggs. A veritable love song of incredible, jazzy beauty.

A friend years ago met Johnny VanZandt at a concert and lived and traveled with Lynnyrd Skynyrd..along the way she also met Gregg Allman and has all kinds of photos of that time.. she also met and hung out with Roy Buchannon...she was gorgeous back then..unbelievable looking..what an adventure she had in her youth....

Hi Jordan, boy, you sure covered a lot into this vlog. WOW!! that is spooky about those two deaths barely a year apart. I can't believe that Barry never went to the hospital right away, so silly. I'm pleased your mom has had a great time on this vlog. Nice that the brothers are buried side by side. Great vlog Jordan.

Berry died of the same head trauma that killed Natasha Richardson after her skiing accident. Worse thing is not going to the ER right away. Everyone has to be monitored for at least 24 hours or risk death.

Since your visit, Butch Trucks ashes have been interred at the end of the row. There's room for Jaimoe and Dickie as well. I'm not aware of another band whose founding members are all buried together. Capricorn studios is also open for morning tours if it's not in use and has a small museum upstairs. I highly recommend a visit to Macon for anyone who wants to see the Allman Brothers sites. The Big House Museum site has maps of the city with recommendations of places to visit. It's a full day of activities. Really moving.
