One of the best albums of all time by one the best, heaviest rock bands to ever walk on this planet.
True.
Opinions are like assholes
heaviest on the planet?? 😂
@@rat_king2801 Read once again what I wrote, you ignorant.
@@rat_king2801what part of “One of” do you not understand? Lol
I'm from Birmingham and as a city I think we are pretty proud to be the home of Black Sabbath, the home of metal. In fact just this afternoon I watched The Birmingham Royal Ballet perform Black Sabbath The Ballet. It was fantastic and your video is the perfect end to my Sabbath fueled day.
crossroads to
Ive come to realize massive industrialization and its underlying horror and hopelessness is what fueled that incredibly heavy music, it's not the sound that peaceful villages and pastoral scenes would inspire.
@@joejones9520 yes to some extent it really does sound like the city feels when you are travelling home in the dark after a long shift in a metal works and I speak from experience.
@@CeriGoffAnd to think that my father had the opportunity to relocate our family to Birmingham, but declined. So we remained in Cleveland, Ohio. Ah...what could have been. I hope to make it over there one day.
I did not know that there was a ballet for these legendary crazies ;-)
This is badass. More like this please. Pink Floyd ,
Led Zeppelin locations.
The Battersea Power Station from Pink Floyd's "Animals" album cover would be fun! 🐷
How about the moving pictures cover!
Boleskine house was the house of Aleister Crowley and Jimmy page
@@bobsacamano7653 Totally. Also Headley Grange where physical graffiti and Zeppelin IV where recorded
@@jevs1964That's the Ontario Parliament Building in Queen's Park, Toronto
Definitely worth checking out if in Toronto.
This and Never Say Die, are, for me, two of my favorite album covers.
They just bring back memories...
I always thought the person on the front cover was a young Ozzy Osbourne. What a wonderful location. Makes you wonder who on earth knew about this spot.
You are not alone in this...many do.
Same here 🤣
Marcus Keef
Yeah I never even considered it could be anyone other than ozzy, 100% shocked me learning that.
No fucking way, I cant believe you guys covered this, totally awesome!! I wonder if this will open up the door to more album cover locations...
One of the best albums ever & the coolest album cover! Appreciate you taking us along Ty Grims! Cheers to continued success friends!Luv&Peace Sean&family! 🤘🏼💛✌🏼
That is beyond cool. I think their best album. I saw Black Sabbath in Virginia in 1996 I believe. That was the loudest concert ever! I lost some hearing in my right ear. I tried to get away from the speakers but it was impossible. But worth it 🤘🖤
Did you know that the expression 'Dead Ringers' comes from the bell being attached to the grave just in case they were still alive? Obviously now the expression means 'to look exactly like someone else' ❤
No it's not and your explanation doesn't even make sense.
A simple Internet search reveals the truth.
No that's not true! it's actually... Saved by the bell.
A ringer is a horse substituted for another of similar appearance in order to defraud the bookies. This word originated in the US horse-racing fraternity at the end of the 19th century. The word is defined for us in a copy of the Manitoba Free Press from October 1882:
"A horse that is taken through the country and trotted under a false name and pedigree is called a 'ringer.'"
It has since been adopted into the language to mean any very close duplicate. As a verb, 'ring' has long been used to mean 'exchange/substitute' in a variety of situations, most of them illegal. From the same period is the term 'ring castors', meaning to surreptitiously exchange hats. Castors, or casters, were hats made from beaver fur. From the 20th century we have the Australian phrase, 'ring in the gray (or knob)', meaning to substitute a double-sided penny for a genuine one. Coming more up to date we have 'car ringing', which is the replacing of the identification numbers on a stolen car with those from a genuine (usually scrapped) vehicle.
So, that's ringer; what about dead? Dead, in the sense of lifeless, is so commonly used that we tend to ignore its other meanings. The meaning that's relevant here is exact or precise. This is demonstrated in many phrases; 'dead shot', 'dead centre', 'dead heat', etc.
The watermill was also used as a filming location for Taboo with Tom Hardy a few years ago, the church was also used in The Eagle Has Landed with Michael Caine
Great video. One of my favourite albums. It's worth noting that this same water mill can be seen in the WW2 film The Eagle has Landed. There is an important scene in the film where a girl falls in to the river and a German soldier rescues her.. and it was filmed right there.
Ozzy was my very first concert at age 16. The concert was the Bark at the Moon tour and I still have my concert ticket stub and shirt. Needless to say I couldn’t have seen a better show for my very first.
A photo of the church and cemetery would have made an interesting Black Sabbath album cover as well. Oh yes, the old "dead ringer" scenario, good one! Classic Celtic gothic imagery and beautiful scenery most definitely.
Hell yeah I have that album it was my uncles originally purchased in 1970s.
Just when I think you couldn't create a better video than your past videos you give us another master-class video of one of the greatest rock bands in history. Keep up the excellent work.
Happy Birthday to ME!!!
Thank you Grimm💜🖤
Beyond awesome video🤟
Happy Halloween 🦇
Thanks, Micheal! Awesome video. Hope you and Jessica are enjoying the "old country." One day I hopefully will make it to England.
If you guys go to Birmingham, there's a Sabbath bench and a big mural in the town centre!
Stunning. What a beautiful village! Showing the mill in person from their debut album is surreal...thanx for taking us here. Your shot was perfect! Stay safe. Happy Halloween!
always wanted to see this!.. thanks!.. as a kid "paranoid" was the first LP i ever bought. i saved for several weeks back then and LP was $3.95 in LA... i wore out "electric funeral" and "war pigs" back then (pre metal!) we called it acid rock and that was history for this kid🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
So cool, I love the architecture. Sure beautiful camera work.
Micheal and Jessica. I've been watching RUclips since 2008. As the platform grew I have seen many channels fade away. Many surface and yet fade away after years. However, your channel is well deserving of being the top 10 RUclips Channels of the world. I mean it. It's a bold statement, but I mean look at their editing for God's sake? The music the coverage. For us?
Please please please do an entire Grimme chapter on Rock album covers and their locations.
Hey! Do you realise that the church featured heavily in the 1976 film, 'The Eagle Has Landed?' Michael Caine stood in the church doorway talking to actor Treat Williams, who was playing a US Army Ranger officer. Mapledurham was used extensively in the film. Guess what? THE MILL was used too! They built a mock up mill and waterwheel directly in front of the original mill- as featured on the Sabbath gatefold! The film makers could not use the original water wheel for the scene that they wanted, so they built a mock up.
Really enjoyed this video. I have this VERY day taken delivery of, 'Black Sabbath,' on vinyl. What a superb album!
This video has lead me to finally check out Black Sabbath's first album. Streaming it right now. I have also shared this video in one of the Facebook metal groups I'm in.
I swear y’all kill it every time. It is almost like stepping back in time. I loved Black Sabbath too growing up. BTW love the jacket. Keep it up. You guys are fantastic. Stay safe and can’t wait for the next one. 😊
Welcome Michael and Jessica to the UK. Enjoy your stay. Brilliant from an old rocker. 👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧👽
I am so happy you made this video....SABBATH is my favorite group!!!!!
Hell yeah, always thought this was only a painting. Thanks guys for clearing that up. Great job.
Me too! I didn't know that it was an actual location and person.
First album I ever bought 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 And it STILL rocks! 🤘
Thanks ! That was awesome, I can easily imagine the church & cemetery also as a fitting Black Sabbath first cover. (maybe even more fitting) 🦇🪦⚰🎃☠
I also saw Black Sabbath perform at Star Lake for Ozzfest 2001 (7-28-01). Also saw Pantera tear it up there the year before. Good times.
I've been watching your channel for years and now seeing you two are so close to where I live feels so weird. I live just a few minutes from this place. Hope you are enjoying England so far 💕
Black Sabbath was one of the best concerts I ever went to. They were amazing. A goal of mine to go there and all the other sites as well!
So glad you guys are now going overseas.
That is awesome! I love that album and its cover. I even got a shirt with that album cover on it. Got to see Sabbath twice. On the late 90s classic lineup reunion and in 2017 on The End. Both shows in California.
Absolutely mind blowing. Thanks for the video! My favorite band of all time..
Thank you so much for taking us along on your trip. The views that you give us are absolutely amazing. The scenery is so majestic and beautiful. It's amazing how your able to get onto private property to get the exact shots. Did you do all this research prior to the trip or just come across it while there? Happy Halloween 🎃
I second that!!! AMAZING narration and photography!! I feel like I'm there, too!! Well done!!! 🙌🥂👏
That’s WILD. Amazingly Ozzy said Sabbath played no part in picking that image as the cover, but it was absolutely perfect.
So why was that location chosen?
@@lindaellen808 the art department at Vertigo probably has a better answer.
Surreal indeed! Black Sabbath, the very first and greatest Heavy Metal Band ever, I bought this their debut album back in 1971 and it still gives me the chills. Great to see where the location for the album cover was shot, simply done but very effective.
Thank you so much for this video. That is awesome to see the actual house that is on the cover. Have a great time.
Another fantastic video full of heartfelt emotion and interesting shots. The cemetery reminds me of the old Amicus horror anthologies.
So glad you did this one.Super stoked
Thank you for a really cool and awesome adventure such a beautiful place. So historic.
Now the first day that I met ya
I was looking in the sky
When the sun turned all a blur
And the thunderclouds rolled by
The sea began to shiver
And the wind began to moan
It must've been a sign for me
To leave you well alone
I was born without you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong
You never said you love me
And I don't believe you can
'Cause I saw you in a dream
And you were with another man
You looked so cool and casual
And I tried to look the same
But now I've gotten to know ya
Tell me who am I to blame?
I was born without you, baby
But my feelings were a little bit too strong!!!
Black Sabbath my first love !
beautiful gothic looking village, I luv old church, windmill and cemetery
Awesome video, wow what a cool place. And yes that Black Sabbath album is amazing!
Never ever did I think I’d see one of your videos where you were visiting the area where I live. Incredible.

Thanks again Michael Jessica for coming to the uk 🇬🇧, i must admit the cemeteries and grave yards do look pretty spooky 👻, try them at night, 😱 , we do have some ghost stories, thanks again grimmlife stay safe out there mr b Robin hood county uk 🇬🇧 👍
Great mini adventure to the mill used for the cover of Black Sabbath's debut album. Which line up of Sabbath did you see in concert?
Amazing album and amazing channel. Thanks for this one as a huge Sabbath fan 😊
I come from a Family of Massive Black Sabbath Fans since Sabbath made the scene. This was such a well done wonderful video of the location of where the first album photo was taken. What an incredible village! Absolutely gorgeous! Black Sabbath is the Greatest Metal Band that no other band has ever come close to and never will. Arizona Loves "Black Sabbath"
Loving these videos, I can only imagine how cool it felt to actually be there 🖤
At 3 minutes of the video, I love how you characterize listening to the album and your passion . You rock . ☮️ & 💚
Grimmlife in the UK.. overload... overload... dzzzzz.... 🤖💥💚🖤
Wow , what a great episode !...thankyou for the knowledge about the album cover art project , very cool, I always wondered who the woman was or if it was a painting...also it would be great to do grave rubbings in that cemetery !
Beautiful little place there and another great video.
I hope you're both loving your time in the UK! ❤ 🇬🇧🇬🇧
My Mom and Dad they used to go & watch all the Bands back when they were just starting. Down South Kent the place was called . TOFFS.. they’ve seen Jimmy Hendrix Fleetwood Mac Black Sabbath. They’ve even had a few drinks with Motörhead. I’ve inherited all of their Records my favourite is Pink Floyd the piper at the gates of dawn.🙏🏻
Such an iconic album both sonically and instantly recognizable cover art. So cool to see the real location where the photo was taken. Thanks.
Brilliant 👏 love sabbath too as well as the film starring Boris Karloff !
Mapledurham also featured heavily in The Eagle has landed, with the water wheel featuring prominently in one scene where a disguised German soldier gets tangled in the wheel, drowns and his German uniform is revealed beneath his 'civilian' clothes.
But that's all well known and not the most interesting thing there.
In some woods on the estate is a large statue of a man known as Old Palm. It is said if you walk around the base of the plinth three times the Devil will appear, but as a kid living a couple of miles away, I was told that the statue has been known to climb down off his plinth and walk through the woods of a full moon. I have seen the statue myself (probably trespassing but you know, kids will be kids) but no Devils appeared, nor did he go walkabout. Oddly, there is very little to be found about the statue online for some reason, but there we go.
Oh, and welcome to England!
You can't stop smiling in England ❤️✌️🏴
Yes! Thank you, Michael! That album cover helps to add visual to that ominous Black Sabbath sound.
I’ve requested to be cremated one day with the caveat I’m given a walkie-talkie for “just in case.” 😉
The Song "Black Sabbath" is one of the greatest songs ever. Fantastic video btw.
Great video, brilliant album I've also seen black sabbath, fantastic, I'm in Liverpool , hope you come up north and make some more videos, cheers 🍻 Andy.
Imagine being in a record store back in 1970 and seeing that album cover for the first time.
Great video that church and small cemetery almost looks like it's from the movie" The Eagle has landed" well just looked it up and it was filmed there
Really glad you're enjoying your tour around England. Great little video 😃
I bought this album aged seventeen (I’m now sixty) & never looked back..thank you so much for featuring this album on your channel, it’s always been one of my all time favourites, plus now I know whom the young lady in black is..cheers guys!❤️🔥🤘
Mapledurham was also the setting for the 1976 war movie "The Eagle Has Landed". I used to live not far away from there as a teenager.
That album has such an atmosphere to it. The cover feels like some Hammer Horror snapshot.
Wizard anytime Up The Sabbath 🎤🎸🤘
thanks for the tour 👍
One of my favorite albums I have on Vinyl
I was so stoked when I found an OG pressing of this album at a record store.
Crazy how they released the Paranoid album in the same year this album was released! 🤘
It's totally amazing how things built back then so so so many years ago over there, are still standing vs some of our old buildings here in the US
Chill that numbs from head to toe. Icy sun with frosty glow. Words that glow read to your sorrow. Words that glow read "No tomorrow".
Another awesome video by the talented Grimmlife. Happy Halloween 🎃
