I'm in the USA an always try to wear unique and different sports jerseys (to keep these young kids guessing, and if lucky, do some Googling on sports history). I just bought a South African sports Jersey in 2023. I put on the back #11 and simply "CHESTER"
I am doing a research to my next podcast at work and my thoughts wandered back to my times at Military Academy. For one faculty I wrote a paper about apartheid, about people's path to liberation. To be honest, I was inspired by this movie. I watched the film and I bought the book to get the bigger picture and... I knew, that I had to put the injustice-frustration down on paper. I was lucky enough to have a lecturer (teaching from the heart) who supported me in writing process and actually admired my work. And for that, I will be eternally grateful. But in this movie, this one scene that breaks me every time. No explanation necessary. Am I crying? Yes, yes I am.
Having the team tour the country giving clinics was part of Mandela's brilliance in getting what was originally a team for whites accepted as a team for all, and also to get the team to think of themselves as representatives of the entire nation.
Today I saw a Gwijo video from a school in SA supporting the springboks in this saturday's final. I saw black and white students singing in Xhosa for their rugby team and I cannot help but to shed some tears, thinking how powerful is forgiveness when people with vision sees beyond hatred. All because of Mandela's vision.

@Dude: We all should try to show love to each, because for the most part, we have it inside. History also shows us that the world works better this way. Not because God (who doesn't exist) wants to.

It's "bokke", the Afrikaans shorthand for "Springboks" which is the nickname of the team. So Pienaar is getting the kids to chant for the "Bokke", in other words to get behind the national team. I can only guess the reply from the kids is the equivalent of "yeah" or "go" or similar?

Can somebody please explain why those kids didn't want to wear South African rugby jerseys, but still cheered the black guy playing with white guys in a sport symbolising apartheid?
I was blessed enough to know Chester Williams...was such an amazing soul...
Do you know if he was actually a "cape coloured" ?
@@amina-pr8xt based on his name, probably. Also hes from the western cape.

RIP Chester WIlliams. Taken from this earth far too young. Thank you for the memories and the inspiration.
What a shame that he couldn't have seen the incredible performance of the Springbok today. RIP
@@ag9652 - the Boks played great today. Congratulations from England
Whaaat Chester is dead??? 😭😭😭😭
This is the best scene in the film, amazing. Thank you.
Lovely scene without beeing cheezy ! And without knowing a word, the music speaks right to the soul.

Great scene. Matt Damon's South African accent was excellent

The end of Johnny Clegg & Savuka's The Crossing or Yollandi Nortjie's The Crossing on the Invictus soundtrack
Besides holy religious personalities, only Mandela could bring such unity
Beautiful song
Beautiful.
Someone please tell what the song is

Sadly since Mandela died, South Africa has gone to the dogs
We have this problem in Australia. Immigrants coming in and being closed minded to any sport that isn’t soccer
hey thats the American way
Ash Carmody Americans play soccer
No, but we pretty much say fuck anything thats not football, baseball or basketball
Ash Carmody 3 different sports. Better than the close minded attitude of immigrants to poofterball
aussie rules football is the best and alot of people who have immigrated here love it
No one likes Invictus now, thanks VCAA
When you have to write multiple comparative essays on Invictus and Ransom...I feel ya mate :((

itsjemmabond that was one kid. And Mandela was now openly supporting them
I guess it’s the fact that Chester represents them out of the group. Chester sadly passed away last week
