  • A ported intake manifold for a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4 Turbo model. While installing the Cruzekits.com fix kit, I took the opportunity to self port the intake manifold. They sell pre-ported intake manifolds on several websites, but I felt brave and went at it with my own tools. I utilized a Milwaukee drill and some universal grinding tips that I found on a shelf. I'm not sure if I did it properly but it looks good after the clean up. After reinstalling it, the car has noticeable mid-range and top-end acceleration, at the expense of gas mileage. The loss is very significant, at nearly 8 MPG loss across the spectrum but overall the acceleration increase makes up for it. You only do this mod if you want the power, but if you want the gas mileage then do not port the intake manifold. The greatest loss in MPG is during idling.

I just watched your video trying to fix my car. I was wondering if you noticed an increase in performance after porting?

Yes. Absolutely. The car will feel like a proper turbo 4 cylinder. You will get a proportional decrease in gas mileage. Also, the positive crankcase ventilation tube at the bottom of the intake manifold that is a pressure fit will need to be secured. I used RTV gasket maker.
