I somewhat agree with opinion 1. While I loved the first Paranormal Activity, I do enjoy watching the other films in the series, and the first Conjuring, I can still see them as a cash grab.

    A24 horror movies usually suck

Vince here! I used to be really excited about every A24 release. Now I think they can be hit or miss for sure. I did enjoy MaXXXine this year and I still keep my AAA24 subscription, but sometimes they don't connect for me.

I think my biggest hot take is that the first scream movie is just a mid teir slasher. Popcorn and Jason Lives are much better "meta" slashers.

Vince here! I love Jason Lives, but I haven't seen Popcorn. I'll have to check it out. I know Sara thinks Jason Lives might be the best Friday movie. In terms of meta horror, I really love Wes Craven's New Nightmare.

Hot take. Exorcist III is better than the 1973 original. Brad Douriff and George C Scotts performance are legitimately Oscar worthy and the movie has the best jump scare in movie history.

Agree about Blair Witch 2. Seriously underrated. For Halloween Ends, I think killing Corey off after that time investment was a mistake.
Guess my biggest hot take is defending unpopular sequels, such as Halloween 3, Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and Freddy's Dead the Final Nightmare, American Werewolf in Paris, and of course Howling 2.

    • @DreadAlertMedia
      @DreadAlertMedia  19 часов назад +1

We're 100% with you on Halloween 3 and Nightmare 2. Both of us love those films. I think we need to revisit American Werewolf in Paris, and Howling 2, but I'm going to float a top 5 hated horror sequels video to Sara and see if she likes the idea. That'd be a great reason for a rewatch.

A Quiet Place shouldn't have been marketed as a horror movie. I love the film, it's in my top 10 of all time, and I hate how the sequel ruined the entire point, but at heart, A Quiet Place is a post apocalyptic family drama, not a horror movie.

    • @DreadAlertMedia
      @DreadAlertMedia  19 часов назад

Vince here! I definitely agree with this take. It's definitely about the relationships more than the monsters. We haven't seen the most recent Quiet Place, but I firmly believe the second film didn't need to be made.

Vince here! I like this take. I think there were some casting issues, and a few bits of questionable writing, but I had fun with it, and I thought it was a good attempt at expanding the lore of the original.

    My biggest hot takes:
-Ari Aster is a hack who makes very unscary films, especially Hereditary. Midsommar was only watchable because i have a huge crush on Florence Pugh.
-Rosemary's Baby and The Shining are the most overrated horror films of all time, hands down. Between the two though, The Shining is very watchable and Rosemary is utterly awful.
-The original Annabelle scares the hell out of me even on repeat watches. I understand the consensus is that the movie is truly terrible but, i dunno, it just wigs me out
-2009 Friday the 13th is the best of the series
-Rob Zombie should NEVER be allowed to make movies and especially no write them
I enjoyed your hot takes, fun video😊 I also really enjoyed Halloween Ends and 2018 wasn't bad. I love the Halloween movies but i do not and have never understood the praise for Laurie Strode as a character. She is totally meh to me. Maybe it's because Jamie Lee Curtis has always been meh to me. i do hate Halloween Kills though but to each their own!

I appreciate the respect you have for folks enjoying what they enjoy! I think that's what the horror community does at its best. I'm always thrilled when someone has a favorite horror film, even if it's not for me.
I will say that I agree with a few of your hot takes. I don't love a majority of the Rob Zombie films I've seen. He has a style that just isn't for me. I liked House of 1000 Corpses, but that's about it.
Midsommer grew on me, but I was so angry when I left the theater when I first saw that film. I think I wanted another Hereditary, but that's definitely not what Midsommer was.
I really enjoy the Friday remake as well. I think it cuts a lot of nonsense and gets right to the point with Jason. It's efficient.

@@DreadAlertMedia I absolutely respect other people's taste in horror. To me, i have always felt it is by far the most subjective genre. I have a good friend who is terrified by vampires. Another who thinks The Strangers is the scariest of all time. So even when i adamantly despise a particular movie or style, i would never fault or troll anyone for liking it.

No problem with 1-4. Respect your takes and opinions, and your reasons and explanations for why you had them on your list are all valid...
HOWEVER, I am sorry, but I am gonna have to vehemently disagree with you about the Blumhouse Halloween Trilogy.
Halloween was really good. Loved it!
Halloween Kills was... mid. Some scenes were very good, but overall it was meh.
    And then...
    AND THEN!
    Halloween Kills.
I sincerely didn't believe that I could possibly HATE any Halloween movies more than the Robie Zombie trash Halloween movies, but then Blumhouse gave us what is to this day my worst Movie experience of my lifetime. And it's not close.
See, I was 7 years old in 1985 when my family got our first VHS, and that is also when I first watched Halloween 1 & 2 on the same night. I had never been scared like that before in my young life... and I loved it! I really liked Halloween 3 even though it strayed from the Michael Myers lore. I had varying opinions on the rest of the Movies after 3 (Return of, Revenge of, H20, etc).
So, I have a long history with the movies. I think a lot of Gen Xers like myself are very protective of the Originals.
Anyway, what Blumhouse did in that 3rd installment was nothing short of pathetic.
You have 40+ years of history, lore, and story telling, as well as 2 of the most popular characters in any Horror Franchise ever in Michael and Lorie...
So let's make the movie about some scrub nobody and barely use the 2 main characters and while we are at it, let's completely destroy years of back story and character building with one scene, allowing this random character to almost end one of the Main character's life.
There is so much more that I HATE about that movie, but I have already gone on long enough.
Try to think of it this way...
Imagine that a character from a franchise that you have loved for your entire life, over 4 decades, was just tossed aside for a new, unlikable, unimportant, unremarkable character who was just introduced in the final movie of a new trilogy. Imagine that the same production company pulled a complete bait-and-switch with the marketing for the movie because they KNEW how audiences would react...
    But they did it anyway.
I bet you'd hate a movie like that, too.
Anyway, sorry this is so long, but I had to vent about that abomination of a movie!
    Thanks!

I just want to take a moment to thank you for this thoughtful comment. I really appreciate the respect you have for our opinions, and the fact that you took the time to actually write out what you didn't like about Halloween Ends and didn't just leave it at Cory sucks. That's a rare thing on the internet, and I hope you stick around and comment on future videos. You're definitely welcome here!
      Thanks again!

Halloween Ends makes Resurrection look like a masterpiece. Introducing a complely new character who ends up being the main character is just an odd direction to go. Meanwhile, spoiler I guess, if the beginning of the movie happened in real life Cory would have been in jail for murder for at least the next 20 years. He can tell whatever story he wants to the parents or the police but he's not getting away without a murder charge. He's basically caught red-handed by the parents. And then said movie premise never exists. And oh yeah LOL Cory sucks!

Haha! I can see how Cory sucks, but I appreciate the effort as well.
