Years ago while working at a Honda motorcycle shop we had a cb-750 running a bit rough. The mechanic took a new condenser and temporarily attached it to the circuit. It smoothed right out.
Thank you so much . Was working on an old 4 cyl MF farm tractor - Installed all new ignition parts and tractor would barely run . I mistakenly thought the problem was in the carburetor - must have had the carb on & off the tractor 20 times to clean and rebuild it, no luck the tractor would just barely run . Had a friend with more experience with old tractors then myself look over everything to double check my work . He thought the same thing i did and removed and rebuilt the carb - no luck . Finally for whatever reason he installed another set of points and condenser and tractor runs fine . I had purchased AC Delco points/condenser from the MF dealer and they said made in USA so i thought i was getting quality products . My friend is convinced the condenser was bad . I am aware the condenser protects the points from pitting and early failure but i did not realize the condenser helped make a stronger spark . I am 75 yrs old and until this happened i never recall hearing about new points & condenser being faulty . Thanks again
Had the same issue with A. 1964 Ford T. Bird ; finally Reinstalled the OLD points and CONDENSER ) the ENGINE ran Properly; the NEW condenser; was A factory Failure right out of the BOX } always save the OLD parts for Back Up..
That was very helpful! Thank you for the video. I have a very old moped which I'm not able to start. The carburetor is fine but I thought the firing was weak. It has a magneto contact breaker without a capacitor across the breaker. Most suggestions said the capacitor reduces spark between the contact breaker, but now I can see that it also improves the spark at the terminal which is important. Thanks again!!
Great demo.......now if someone out there can explain why there are 2-3 different condensers for the same distributor that might be even more helpful......i.e Standard Products ( Blue streak listing 3 or 4 different points sets and at least 2 different condensers for the same engine ). DR-6- DR-70....ect.
uhm if we use a bigger value would that mean it could result to less arc on the breaker and greater spark on plug? it comes to mind the way i understood it
did you connect the wire of the capacitor on the negative? the distributor aluminium is negative but you connect on the wire that have plastic protection thanks
That line is actually coming from the ignition coil negative and go to the contact point to get ground, the plastic is used to prevent it from grounding before reaching the contact point.
Tanong ko lng sir, tatlong beses ako na nagpalit ng ignition condenser ngaung buwan, maari bang dahil ito sa matagal ng alternator or ignition coil...tamaraw fx 5k ang car ko ...maraming salamat sa reply...
I would NOT consider that a 'strong spark' at the spark plug. Instead of connecting the capacitor wire where you did, try taking it directly to the plug. Now, you'll need a non resistor plug, and a high capacity diode to make this work, in order to 1. achieve a plasma ignition & 2. prevent the destruction of the capacitor array, by having extremely high voltage backing into the capacitor array. Once you've tried this 'Plasma ignition' upgrade... Ask me how to make the next upgrade to a 'corona ignition system'.
With what capacitance rating? If the total capacitance rating is same to the original one it could just be fine! The value of the condenser for this distributor is 0.22 microfarad. It is better to have a voltage rating of over 450 volts. The voltage rating doesn't affect how the capacitor works but determines how much voltage it can stand without failing.
Is it better to keep the Capacitor cool? What if a Capacitor has a long wire like the ACDelco D222 (19142671)? How would that affect the spark control?
I’m no expert but I’m guessing keeping it cool would help the capacitor last longer. Electricity travels fast, probably no bad effects from a long wire.
@@track1219 Well, I've installed it with a Temperature Switch 2 weeks ago and it's been doing great, no issues and I'll be adding a LED Indicator light that will let me know when it's ready.
@@track1219 Just to let me know when the Adjustable Electric switch has turned on thus connecting the Capacitor/Condenser so the engine runs as it was designed to. Telling me that it's ready and up to temperature to drive.
Excellent brief demonstration
Thank you very much!
That a good demonstration, now please show how the resistor affects spark.
Okay! Thank you very much! (Which spark do you want to see? the secondary or the spark at the contact points?)
incredible demonstration, thank you sir for illustrating the imiportance of a capacitor in the ignition system.
Glad you liked it!
good and having a clear presentation
Best Video EVER. Full demonstration
Thank you very much for the wonderful encouragement!

wow
this is prettey nice
clear and on point presentation
thank you
much appreciated

by terminal you mean the sparkplug tip right?
Great set up! Thanks.
Thank you very much!!
Itu sangat membantu sobat, terimakasih 😊😊
can I use two capacitor parallel to improve result?
God bless you brother greetings from Egypt
That's so sweet of you! Thank you very much!
thanks very much for the great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much sir
Most welcome!
Thank you sir
What about the condenser/capacitor on the coil? What is it's purpose and difference in the ignition system.
Is it connected to the coil negative terminal? Then it is similar to the one connected on the distributor!
2 capacitors can increase more electric spark⚡?

maybe it was for the quality of spark, i mean the impact it can affect the performance of the ignition system
Wonderful demonstration! Could you please tell what is the value of the capacitor?
0.25 micro farad is the capacitor value
@@TheAbJGarage thanks for the info!

What is the best to use 22uf or 25uf or 27uf condenser to distributor.
For 4k toyota engine
Thank you
❤Good,
shouldnt it stop the arching totally?
thanks super video . I like thanks
Thank you too

Bagaimana jika memasang 2 capasitor sekaligus?

Helo what happen if i used 2 condeser/capasitor isn't much better?and much stronger spark??
been wondering too,
but i guess it would given there are more pulse to convert for the secondary coil
💯👏
Thank you very much!!
Capacitor needed also across spark plug ? More spark
not really!
Is there any method to check the capacitor OK or Not.
the only way i know was like how he presented,
judging by the arc and spark
whats the value of the capacitor?
Abj Arif nw gin ignition be Amharic bitseralen

longer travel more delay i guess,
