Great video ty . I ordered mine yesterday. Getting it tomorrow super excited!
Very welcome, hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the review lad. I'll stick with my OneXplayer S1 i7 and my Funkey S critters for emulation. This one is just kind of a blah design with a lackluster SOC. I'm not crazy about the color saturation or the tepid Dreamcast emulation. Anbernic really need to step up their game. Great stuff lad as always!
Thank you my friend! I was just playing on my FunKey S two nights ago myself (taking a break from the RG503 review lol). Agree with your points, the color saturation just isn't what I had expected, nor the performance. I may be a little bit spoiled from the RG552 which is a device I do really like and enjoy. The RG503 is not bad, but it's not their best work by any means. With all the competition in this space, to stay competitive they will need to make bigger leaps in terms of performance AND firmware to attract customers. This device would be fine as a first handheld, perhaps, but not at $150. Most any rk3326-based device will perform on a par similar to this one and cost much less.
@@WagnersTechTalk Absolutely agreed. The space is getting very, very busy indeed. I honestly don't think it even comes down to SOC used as much as form factor. Look at the Miyoo Mini. The mini and it's anemic processor manages to play to PS1 fairly competently but it's form factor is pocket friendly and perfect in terms of its button layout and aesthetic. Bloody brilliant. Giving folks want they want, imagine that lad? 😉. Anbernic needs a hit.
I just got my rg552 yesterday and I’m really happy I got that one instead of the 503. The android performance is much more reliable than the Linux build.
Agreed I got an RG552 not that long ago and it's the most well-rounded handheld I've ever purchased. It's basically a GPD XD+ with Linux capabilities.
It's a great device, except the very bad battery life and the high price.
dude, once again for your very well structured video! concerning the drawbacks of the unit...still no reason for me to upgrade from my solid 350M. my wallet is ready...but...I don't understand anbernic to be honest. anyways...keep up your interesting videos!
Thank you Wolf! Hoping the upcoming Win600 from Anbernic will be the device we're looking for. Got a lot ideas on how I'd like to use it, not just for Retro Gaming. But we'll have to see what all it can do.
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks for that hint! I wasn't aware that there was something new in the pipeline! looking forward to it!
cool
bro what is the best handhelp retro console ? as things seem to be change since your last video ? many thanks
IMO, I use the Steam Deck more than anything. It's great for PC gaming as well as emulation. Heck, even use it for virtual pinball and running Windows on it. Got a bunch of information here: wagnerstechtalk.com/steamdeck . It's not cheap, but you asked about "best" and the Steam Deck is definitely that (again, IMO).
Looks pretty good but for now I’ll stick with my RG350 as performance on emulation like Dreamcast still isn’t looking too great. Keep hoping we will get a decent handheld to play Dreamcast on, but maybe that will be the Steam Deck.
The RG552 plays Dreamcast well, though I'm also looking to get a Steamdeck as well.
The Original RK3326 devices with ArkOS and 351ELEC run a solid list of PSP, N64, and Dreamcast games. Many ran at full speed. The RG552, Powkiddy X18S, and RP2+ play PSP, N64, Dreamcast, Naomi, and Sega Saturn at full speed.
Is there dos emulator in the Rg503?
I didn't see any dosbox/ports with the included firmware. However, it's likely a new custom firmware will allow it.
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks
those are switch thumbsticks ?
Looks similar, but likely not the same.
Unfortunately the RG503 may not be for me it lacks the Specs and Functionality to make it a great handheld. I do have hope the developers will make something interesting out of this Handheld.
They are more than capable of coming out with something nicer than this
@@buster5661 I agree, I'll be excited to see it whether I buy the RG503 or not.
CFW likely will improve the experience, on paper the CPU performance should be a bit more of an improvement than what I'm seeing on this device. I've tried other emulators for DC with some minor improvements, but still not a good experience for some games (CrazyTaxi2 as an example). I thought it important to make sure I don't interrupt the audio during the game-play segments so it's clear what those issues look and sound like.
Waiting on a game that can play Nintendo 64
Doesn’t look like any major improvements
I was hoping there would be a more significant improvement over prior rk3326 devices. Just don't feel this is it. The RG552 is, in my opinion, the best available Anbernic device (though, a bit expensive).
Any one really put off by how this dude pronounces anbernic
What is the proper pronunciation? I read it as an-bur-nick 😎👍
@@WagnersTechTalk I think can just watch other youtube reviews of anbernic products to see how its pronounced. I see most people pronouncing it like amber-nick. Hence the name of stuff like amber ports ect.
I've been calling it that for ~2 .5 years, not sure if this old dog can learn a new trick or not -lol. I'll make an effort though
