Great video Jim. It's too bad that arkos can't boost the performance too much. Ark os is still awesome though. Is amberelec available for it? That's usually what I use for these devices.
One of the best things about the stock firmware, but missing from ArkOS is Vertical Arcade mode. You put your vertical arcade mame roms in the "varcade" folder, turn the device sideways, and you get to use the entire vertical screen for those classic games. Let's hope it's included in an update -- it's probably the #1 reason to buy this device. I like the improved Dreamcast, PSP and especially Saturn performance with ArkOS, but Naomi and Atomiswave need BIOS somewhere, which is not needed on the stock card. So right know, I go back and forth between these two firmware options.

You can use any size. Just remember there are two micro sd slots. If you use a large size card you can still store games on the arkos microsd card, just have to turn the option on in the settings to either TF1 or TF2 slot.

First. I'm going to ignore Anbernic and Powkiddy from now on. Even though I love my RG351P. But the AYN Loki mini pro will probably be my next handheld
Other hand helds aside, would you go for a 552 or 503?
503. In terms of games, I don't think you're missing all that much. Games like Ridge Racer, Wipeout still need a bit more power than the 552, so you need a Powkiddy X18S or Odin. If you prefer mostly 8/16/32 bit games vs PSP games, get the 503. There's also the RGB 10 Max 2 from Powkiddy but its an older RK3326.
@@JimRPG I got a 351M, I'm good on the RK3326 handhelds. Waiting on my Odin Lite, should be coming right after the first batch. If only I could see Tokyo Xtreme Racer for Dreamcast on your channel to make a proper decision... 😜

Hey there, I haven't tested yet. I'll test n64 on my next device the RG353P which has the same processor. Performance will be mostly the same (close enough as long as the operating systems perform ok).

in my opinion anbernic has mounted a poorly performing chipset based on 4 cortex a55 which are not enough to emulate dreamcast, psp and saturn well, in order not to make the rg552 look bad. It was enough to mount a chipset similar to that of the rp2 plus and everything would have run perfectly, keeping production costs low, as well as prices, but the company must also sell the rg552 on the market.If it was my company I would never put the rg552 into production and I would have put a more powerful processor on this rg503, it would have won hands down even on the rp2 plus !! or I would have created an ayn odin style rg552 console, with much more powerful hardware, capable of emulate powerful consoles like psp ,ps2 and gamecube.All this happened only because the anbernic only cares about making a lot of money on its products!These are the usual very bad choices of Chinese companies !!
Ya the rg503 was such a comfy and well layed out device. Gimped by so so performance.
What a waste for 150, even with Costum Firmware this just waste time and money.
