Anbernic/Linux Handhelds - How to Add Games/Roms to Micro SD and Scrape for Artwork

- This video will show you how to add your games and roms to a micro sd card for use in the second micro SD card slot on your Anbernic Handhelds, this has been tested on Anbernic RG353P but it should work on other Anbernic handhelds.
It may even work on custom firmware linux OS as well and could possibly work on Powkiddy or other linux handheld devices that potentially have this function as well.

love the way you explain. i have another question, sorry if it's sounds really stupid...but when you play the games and you save your progress, where are saved games saved ? are they saved on the roms card or or on the firmware card? (is it the same for every device, or different? (I am a newb). thanksss
Where do you get the roms? Like after you formate and put it in your pc is there. Website you have to go to to download games or is it already going to be in a folder with a bunch of games ?
Hi! What is the stock firmware for 353P? I have the same device and we have the same interface, but I didn't use the stock OS as recommended (used ArkOS as followed in one video). So now the interface is different. :( The original interface was way better.

Thank you very much! It all worked just fine, even though i had to reboot the console several times
with and without the SD card for the device to finally register the roms. This process, while apparently
is easy once you know it, but it isn't something you can just guess, and it is not mentioned in the
quickstart guide you get with the console.
Also, I'd like to add that it's a complete waste of money to pay for those pre-loaded games, cause
from my (and that of my friends) experience with the pre-loaded handhelds - you get a hundred
copies of Mario, Sonic or some other toddler stuff or clone of the above and a few thousand games
that are an alien text-based nonsense, clearly made for an extremely narrow audience with
questionable gameplay and every single thing is written in kanji to boot.
Of the games that you'd like - there is about 10% chance to have about 10% of them on the extra game
card, should you for some reason decide to spend money on it. Do the estimated math, it just isn't worth it.
It is extremely likely that even if you buy the card - you'll still end up adding your own selection of games.

Can you explain, How to add ".iso" "rar" ".zip" ".7z" ".bin" ".cue" files to anbernic. Should I Extract or directly copy paste? can I create folder inside to emulator or just paste?

Dreamcast and Playstation are giving me problems and I'm presuming this is because they are cd versions rather than the cartdridge based roms that all transfer and run fine. The Dreamcast and Playstation roms all appear as doubles with slightly different symbols, when a Dreamcast rom is unzipped it gives me 4 files, do I have to transfer all 4 files to the anbernic?!

Hello. After constant restarts, the RG353 does Not see any of the games in the SD card. I've tried removing and inserting the card in between restarts but it never sees any game. Also tried 'update games lists' from the menu and nothing. Putting the card in my PC does show all the games I've added. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

@@dafugpugp6847 Yes, I figured it. The problem is that the games in the card are in the wrong directories. When you power on the device for the first time, it creates the directories it needs for each system in the SD card to access the games, but these directories are different than the ones that are already copied in the SD card, so the system will never 'see' them. You need to take the Games SD card out, plug it into a computer and move the games from the old directories into the new ones. Some differ in names (for example SNES/SFC for super nintendo) but refer to the same system. After a bit of trial and error you should be able to move the games to the correct directories that the system recognizes. Hope that helps!
So, I got a new SD card for the games to replace the stock one on my Anbernic. I placed my desired games onto the new SD and rebooted. All the games that were on the original SD card are still showing on the device though. Is there a way to remove all the old games?

How do I add emulators like Sega Saturn using the Linux side? Through the RetroArch menu? Without using some sketchy custom firmware like jelos or whatever?
you can't the emulators and cores are integrated in the firmware. that's why 'sketchy' custom firmwares are preferred by most emu handheld users since the cores and emulators on those cfw are more up to date.
How do you do this with a mac?
How do you add or download game that aren't already on the system? For example; I would like to download a specific game that was on the gameboy color but it isn't on the anbernic handheld? Is there a website I could go to?

I was wondering if you can take the content of the roms folder from a miyoo mini v2 and copy those roms into the ambernic roms folde?
Yep most of the time it'll be fine. It just depends if the emulator uses the same rom files.

Thanks so much for answering my question! great tutorial! so i was able to add snes, n64, sega, roms easily and they worked fine but when it came to Dreamcast and PS1 roms im having an issue. It says for example PS1 accepts .bin .cue .iso etc files but whenever i add those kind of roms to the psx folder they either dont play or they say missing playstation BIOS file. For dreamcast im having issue with roms as well as when i add the roms they just dont play at all nothing happens. However with all the other consoles they play just fine. What am i doing wrong with dreamcast or ps1 files because i am getting the exact roms its asking for
Just follow the steps in this super helpful video. Take your SD card out, put it in your computer, then drag the game to the Dreamcast folder just like he did in the video and poof! it works! 3:10 is where he shows how to drag Crazy Taxi to the Dreamcast folder. Hope this helps!
For PS1 files you need to add the .bin and .cue files. I would recommend adding a sub folder inside the PS1 folder to make it tidy. Example, Crash Bandicoot, create a Crash Bandicoot folder in the PS1 folder. Open the Crash Bandicoot folder, copy or drag and drop the .bin and .cue files. Then put SD card back in the device. Job done!
I'm having this exact problem, double files in the Dreamcast and Playstation folder when the sd card is inserted after copying, did you get it worked out in the end?!

This isn't about how to dump the roms onto the sd card, the roms have already been transferred the same as all the other system roms but for some reason only on Dreamcast and Playstation you get double files show up in the folder. I'm presuming this is because these 2 consoles are disc based and not cartdridge based like the other consoles that load and work just fine. I'm having the exact same issue as this other person and was hoping this video would address the issue but it doesn't

Are the micro sd cards that have over 10,000 roms on it for the anbernic hand helds at Ali Express legit? I was thinking about buying one and copying the roms over to a separate micro sd for the rg353p. Is that even possible? Copying Roms from a hand held to a different hand held? Thanks.
on a pc, yes. most roms preloaded on those cards are basically the same rom files that you will get on other sources online, it's just that some of them are not in english.

I use a MAC and i still cant get it to work. i have a new bigger SD card and put it into the emulator and it got the directives. i copied over the files from the SD card that comes with the emulator to my computer in its own folder. when i go to transfer them from the folder to the card it denies me. even from my downloads, i cannot transfer to the card. any idea why?

Drag and drop apk files on to the SD card. Simple
@@L1RW have you tried doing that? no matter where apks are, they will still install to internal memory. that's why you root phones.

Yup plenty for PS1, they’re approx 500mb to 1gb at the most.

How do I play the retro games on the Android side?
There should be some apps installed like retroarch, if not you can use the browser and find the .apk files of the emulator apps you like - like Drastic and just download them.

If you mean the optional sd card filled with games, yeah you can.

Purchase a decent one that isn't cheap or bad. You can get a solid one for $30 on Amazon or at Walmart. I never had an SD card that corrupted. Didn't even think it was possible.

Hi, i need some help, i have an 512 gb menory card, i burned an image from the original 64 gb with the games with rufus, i formated it first. When i put the new memory card on the console and reeboot a lot of games wont play, they wont start.
