I got my rg 405m at the beginning of October '23. I have played quite a lot and the device is still going strong. Shoulder buttons are still clicky, battery is holding up well.
Nice review! I really like how you wrote notes on paper around device to highlight features. Great technique. My recommendation is to use lighter paper or something like a metallic silver sharpie. It will stand out better and be easier to see. Subscribed.
OR less powerfull (just to be able to play up to 2D games of 6th generation: similar to RG ARC-S/D) but with left stick changed places with D-Pad ( or even without sticks but dual front-facing speakers) and MUCH cheaper. Also, keep those shifts as they are in 405M for better pocketability
I'm new to emulators, but this was a very good break down of this one. I like that it's small, compared to other handheld emulators. It being made of metal is also a plus.
From what I've looked up, the retroid pocket 4 pro would be better at the same price, yet I don't think it looks as smooth, & pocketable as this one. I guess you trade some things for style, which isn't a bad thing.
@@Pedro-jz4jn I can't blame you. From what I've looked up, the Ambernick has some cool features like rumble, and a metal casing. However, you get a bigger screen, with cooler casing options with the retroid pocket 4 pro. I'd honestly go for the 4 pro, since I think some games would benefit with a nicer screen.
I bought the anbernic rg405m for $45 at the swap meet. I never knew it cost that much on tik tok or Amazon. I was like damm when I looked at the real prices for this thing.
Looks like a nice device, but there is a lot of competition these days.. going to have to be pretty special at that price. Can't wait to see what gets released this year! Bound to be something better in a few months or so.
Im new to this emulation stuff I accidentally stumbled across emulation consoles watching N64 game play a few days ago. That being said what systems would you recommend in the higher end anbernic/retroid price range. If it helps id be interested in playing games like turok, tony hawk pro skater, the mario 64 game, and some of the cart racing games.
Even within the Anbernic line, I’m not seeing what’s so special about this device that everyone seems to praise it. I got my RG505 during a sale for $128 last year, including micro SD and shipping/insurance. It has identical performance to this, a Vita OLED that 2x upscales PSP perfectly, and while the inline shoulders hold it back as a remote gaming device compared to Retroid’s new RP4, it’s still better for that than this. Furthermore, if pre PS2/GC is what a customer cares about, they could buy their RG353 for significantly less and get the same premium aluminum housing, or Retroid’s RP2s and get objectively better controls. What exactly is so great about this device to warrant its popularity? I’m not seeing it. Is the extra portability really worth all the trade offs?
@dauntless0711 imo it just may be. Not everyone thinks the same. I LOVE the face buttons that anbernic put on the 405m like the best I've ever felt on any handheld. Yes pound for pound retroid is leagues better, but for someone that's always on the go and can legit fit in the pocket and forget it's there, sign me up.
What's the Budget? honestly this one does well for DS games. But you can still pick up a DS lite for around $70 bucks and a R4 card is around 35 bucks. if you want cheaper and smaller a miyoo mini plus is good too.
I have an older Ambernic RG353. Is this one easy to add more ROMS? I have a bunch already on a SD card. Want to know if it's easy to add more games to the device to go with the ones it comes with. I want to plat Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the PSP. Hope that plays well. I want a device that I can pick up and play easily without all the setting up.
This is one I have thought about getting. But I did just order the retroid pocket 4 pro and the powKiddy x55 but I do what to get anbernic device .good review 🎉
.... My Only Issue With The RG405M Is It's TOO EXPENSIVE For All Its Shortcomings And Retroid Pocket 4 And Even RG552 Are Better Devices For $200.00 .... I've Almost Pulled The Trigger On This Device But Just Am Never Able To Justify The Price For It's Performance ....
Very good device to play dreamcast/N64... With GC and Ps2, it can be frustrating because not all games run 100%. And for PSP, 3ds, wii, Android games, the 4/3 screen is a limitation.... I sold mine to buy the RP4 pro

These handheld devices have gotten to a price point where I think it’s better to just search for used 3DSs or Vitas
I just bought mine after months of debating and researching thank you for constantly covering these anbernic devices

I really like this form factor and screen, hopefully they will come out with a successor soon same screen and size but more powerful

Finally someone who cites the real price (in America).
I'm tired of all this "oh it's only $60!" - $120 on their website with shipping & VAT in Europe

Yup, the RG556
I was thinking of getting one of these, but no HDMI port made me change my mind.
The most sleek looking retro handheld IMO. Is the d-pad being below the joystick makes playing d-pad centric games uncomfortable?
it's not bad they are so close together you'll cramp overall before the placement bothers you.

Great video, any thoughts on the 556?
It looks cool it will probably come through for a review.
I won't even ask what Minecraft Legends is doing there x)
don't look......
Retroid Pocket 4+ is $199 and is wayyyy better!
Hell even the Odin pro gen 1 would be better since it is on sale for the same price a little bit less power but bigger screen
@@oscarguridi4681 Crazy for him to even showcase this!.. But I understand, as his channel is growing and needs content.

@@dauntless0711imo if you want power just get a steam deck or an asus, for me the 405m is the ultimate retro handheld.
The package is nice. But it doesnt deliver on its $200 price point. I would have liked it to have a little more umph.
I bought the 405V and have been so unhappy with the claw grip. really REALLY WISH id gotten this instead.
Heard mostly good things. I had 351MP last year, and that was also a quality unit.
We Are!!!!!
Penn State!
I was going to follow anyway because of the quality of your videos but your shirt seals it
Yup, I'm playing this for DS and advance

@@DaveyG Thanks! Sorry what’s an R4 card? I know trying to get hold of a copy of Heartgold is suuuuper pricey these days.
@@DaveyG Also, same question hut for Gamecube. I’m itching to replay Windwaker in particular
@@republicedc8567 Get a DSi XL and mod it for DS games
The only thing missing from me buying this is the lack of HDMI out, otherwise cool device.
So many handhelds ... what do I do now with theses Raspberry Pi4s I have lying around?

I think this competes to the rp3 pro. The only downside is it's $50 more.

this thing looks SUPER TINY

Resident evil 4 also ran exceptionally well

the device itself seems stellar for emulation. unfortunately it's a bit pricy for what it offers and competition.
Looks really cool 😅 i would remsin in the 80 bucks budget
Great review bro.....I hope i get the giveaway this time....
Thanks man fingers 🤞
How long does the battery lasts
5 years
I didn't realize that was an android device. For me personally though? I'd get the RP4Pro
