    Karl worked with Nicki Minaj to make Fendi more popular with the urban community. Fendi really blew up after Nickis Chun li single. She then went on to do a "Fendi Prints On" Collab. Nicki Minaj really introduced me to my love for Fendi.

      They worked with a lot of celebrities in that time, and it matched upw ith when they started to use the Zucco print in more clothes. But Im surprised they didnt get more backlash (as gucci did in the same time frame) for basically having dapper dan pieces

      Fendis collab with Nicki Minaj was one of the worst collabs ever, and NO Nicki definitely didnt make Fendi more popular at all. Fendi was a big designer house before that, I dont really know what your resources are but Im afraid that your wrong my friend and btw that collab with Nicki didnt went well at all due the lack of design and over prised pieces, it looked very cheap 😏most of the items were on sale for several years after.

      @@sakksarkissian9693 That's a complete lie. All 127 items in Nicki Minaj’s Fendi collection have now sold out at least once online. And yes, she made it more popular in the urban community with her single Chun-Li and her constant wear of the Fendi prints over the year of 2018. Before that, there were a very few musical artists, especially urban artists, who were wearing Fendi. Her collection did amazing, even celebrities started to wear her collection, for example Selena Gomez, Chloe x Halle, Cara Delevigne and more.

    It sucks that they pushed the Fendi women out considering their legacy and it feel especially insulting to see how the women’s wear collections have been very spotty vs the mens. The draping issue makes me think the designer just doesn’t have the best eye for how womens silhouettes should be contracted and although it’s good to see growth, I feel like delegating that line to another designer would be better for brand cohesion.

    • @understitchYT
      @understitchYT  Год назад +5

      I dont think they pushed the Fendi women out, they just got old or better offers from other companies.
      I agree with the skill level of the designer being a problem for the couture. He absolutely shouldve been trained better before he took over. Kim is a good designer, but noone can immediately come into a new craft and excel without being adequately taught how to do it first 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Absolutely wonderful content, thank you. Maybe just me but something about Fendi I associate with tinted glass 70's vintage stuffiness. Any fashion brand in 2023 having anything to do with fur, and thus the murder of animals for vanity, is utterly revolting full stop.

      @understitchYT  Год назад +1

      To me that 70s look you described is also Karl Lagerfeld, but for Chloe, thats the exact look I think of for KLs Chloe. And in regards to fur, Im also not pro-new fur, especially in the modern day, but even into the 90s it was a MASSIVE business for luxury fashion houses, and actually in Asia is still a multi-billion dollar industry. My bet is that Fendi makes so much from fur that they cant get rid of it without taking a massive hit to the financials of the business, credibility to the house and appeal to the asian market where they still completely dominate the fur luxury industry

    As great as a designer Kim Jones is he is just not a womenswear designer. At all!

    • @understitchYT
      @understitchYT  Год назад +1

      Right, he is so much more talented at bringing what he brings to mens because largely the silhouettes just arent his strong suit, and for men they are effectively pre-made, whereas for women it's really fundamental to the design

      @@understitchYT exactly. I also feel that he’s a more emotional designer, so designing menswear(for obvious reasons) is more personal and relative for him. Aside from him just being an extraordinary talent.

      @@422mb I can see that, emotional, but not vulnerable or romantic in the way womenswear needs often. To me he is a very bish bash bosh type of designer, which really works for menswear

    I enjoy fashion but knew nothing a out the history, so thanks for the education. I always associated Karl with Chanel and didn't know that he designed for any other house. Wasn't that considered unethical? (working for the competition), was there ever any overlap in designs? @understitchYT

    • @understitchYT
      @understitchYT  Год назад

      Thank you so much!! Im so glad you enjoyed my content enough to binge!! It wasnt considered unethical because he was literally the first. Noone had ever revived a house in the way he did and he was known to be a very talented designer for years before this, so his ability to reinterpret codes of the house was already a known talent of his, that was prized in designers at thw time, so his abolity to do it for several added to his reputation, not took away from it as it may do now with CDs that are supposed to bring their own image to a brand (which is more the trend now)
