it's kind of a Seth thing. He can see through very complicated boardstates and have the most amazing ideas to take advantage and win somehow... but then there are the other times when he should take the easiest decision, with a very clear and easy to read boardstate and screw it all big time. This happens mostly when he gets too focused in his game plan that he gets blind from the most obvious things in front of him.
@@ODIRGO Combo players have a problem with just playing the play in front of them. They always want to do their janky, narrow play instead of just winning. Also, they don't build many back ups or safety plans for their combos. They're too predictable and easy to answer.
Worldwalkers Helm would have been crazy cool in this deck. Roxanne makes a token that taps for 2, pay 2 to make a copy of the meteorite, and deal 2 more damage.
Recently built Roxanne as an edh deck, vastly overperformed any expectations I had. The card is honestly strong enough I want to try it in eternal formats
It's a huge pain in Standard Brawl. If you hit your land drop or have a way to give it haste then playing it pays for its own commander tax every turn, while your mana pool gets massive.
Kinnan bonder prodigy 2, with no outlet but with combat making mana and instead of counterspell colors, ritual colors and mana burst ramp and hate bears against counter magic... yeah... I can see why it would do that.

Still has a decent chance against a 10, but not the best 8 is "high power," these decks are possibly gonna compete with 9s, almost definitely lose to 10s. I'd say to be an 8, you've either got to be trying to win by at the latest turn 5, or prepared to answer someone else who is trying to win that early, and still advancing your game plan. 7 is where I think most Commander decks sit, and it's where I'd say you start cutting cards for being "too strong". A well upgraded precon can be a 7. 6 is about the level of most of the precons they make nowadays. 5 is like, the earliest precons, that were kinda bad. 4 is either a deck built by someone who doesn't really know what they're doing, or like an art theme deck with minimal mechanical synergy 3 is an art or flavor theme deck with no mechanical synergy. 2 is literally random cards 1 you're actively trying to lose

... Clearly need to combine Generous Plunderer with Coveted Falcon. Every turn you give your opponent a Treasure, and then steal it back since, as the creator of the token, you're the owner. Granted, there are probably better tokens you could give your opponent to steal, but it'd be an amusing use of the Coveted Flacon regardless.
This does not work, unfortunately - the opponent creates and owns the token, even though you owned the effect that caused them to create it. Notice the wording - 'target opponent creates.'
It used to work that way. It was changed a while back, I don't remember when exactly. You could, say, play Hunted Dragon and then play Brand to get the 2/2s for yourself.
I've been trying to put together a deck with generous plunderer with bloodvial purveyor and also a bunch of treasure or powerstone makers, then use coveted falcon to give all my artifacts to opponent. then having delney on the field doubles the plunderers trigger and can hit for a lot. haven't quite figured it all out yet. but seems like a col against the odds deck for you.
Just had a thought... What if Generous Plunderer... was worked into a mono red aggro deck. It is some major ramp for that deck allowing more spells a turn or even for some bigger red aggro stuff like that Furnace Punisher.
Holy cow that first game had sooo many misplays. Picking the Boseiju just to play it as a land instead of leaving it in the deck to deal with a leyline later, not board wiping the atraxa from the start, playing roxanne when you can see he has an angel in hand. Playing a triome instead of the brushland when you could of cycled it. Sheesh

I absolutely hate Roxanne in Brawl. It's a must answer but it also is effective against commander tax. Edit: The reason furnace punisher doesn't see much play in RDW (usually sideboard) is probably because one of the matchups you'd expect it to be good in (domain) it's incredibly unreliable. It's also still a creature at the end of the day, so it's underwhelming in the midrange matchups. Personally I run 2 in my board, but I've considered running abrade in their place.

Would it be better if you just made it Temur? Using something like Vaultborn Tyrant for your big payoff? Not as good as Atraxa but you can copy it with doppelgang....
Pretty funny doubting plunderer. That card is in vintage cube right now - granted, punishing mix and solo ring and mana crypt is part of why, but still. As usual, the plan is to spend 80 mana on turn 12, so plunderer is only whatever.
One of my favorite decks of all time is dagger burn with panharmonicon, saheeli,tresspasser curse, rampaging ferocidon etc etc. This meteorite deck is hilarious fun just like it is. Good stuff

virtue of knowledge enchantment will give roxanne 4 etb triggers. i also like outcaster greenblade for a ramp creature. you can copy the trigger with virtue of knowledge as well. also there a is new green card that is like doppelgang. its called for the common good.
You hurt my soul by not playing Roxanne in the first game the turn you drew her. Would have pinged the angel and then cast the adventure with the treasure token, but guess you didn't want to be tapped out(despite having nothing to cast with 2 mana)
it looks like you'll still win this game so im not sure it matters, but you definitely had 14 damage worth at around 30:00 if you attack with the creature lands. could've been the vinestalk's shining moment lol

If I had the wildcards I'd take half of this and half of the Temur Analyst deck and duct tape both to a playset of Mirror Box. Not that I think it'd be any good, but just imagine Doppelganging a Chandra into enough additional Chandras to be guaranteed amongst their +1 and +2 abilities to hit and cast another Doppelgang that then gets copied enough times to do it all again and then burn OPP out with enough Chandra ults. Try to drop a Mirror Box while ramping into Virtue of Strength and the hopefully untap, drop a Chandra, ideally have it copy a Doppelgang at least X=2 and I think, in Magic Christmas Land, we should be good. Before thunder junction I genuinely won games on mythic by just ramping into doppelgang x=2 turn 4. If you can resolve it above x=1 it is so much value. 2 mana per permanent. A fun thing I did was loop it by playing meldweb curator and spelunking, and just having the same turn over and over again. Or just copy ppls vein ripper or phyrexian obliterator. Or sweep their board with their own leyline bindings. It was fun, but ppl just play too much interaction in bo1 nowadays. Or combo off on turn 4. Now I'm stuck in plat.
Generous Plunderer is insane against my Synthesizer artifact deck, if I don't happen to have removal. I do play Food Fight, though, which lines up well against it if I happen to have it out.

I feel something weird about every janky dopplegang combo when I *know* that for a few years in standard you could just cast Crackle With Power x=4 to win a game the boring way. Between this and the oasis ping deck and other jank I've seen its all sort of ways to turn doppelgang into cracklegang
33:00 Another line that leaves you with your Chandra on the field is to -3 the Chandra to kill the Frillback and deal 3 damage. Then since Chandra is on the field, the Embereth Blaze is copied and deals 4 damage.
As a Proud owner of a Roxanne Commander Deck, she is an insanely competitive but ultimately casual Commander. Like once she hits the field and starts making mana rocks, you either need to wipe artifacts/tokens from the board or she'll just keep coming back while pinging your board for 2 or more. Cause Haste(to swing the same turn), Panharmonicon style items, and crazy things that can double or even triple the amount of damage those pings do, exist.
WTF does "insanely competitive but ultimately casual" mean, please let's not discuss the fact that commander is a casual format. i mean, this goes without saying. and please don't give us "BUT CEDH EXISTS" (which is also effectively an in joke)

Is it really that hard to comprehend? She's a strong commander, but not one that induces high salt counts. And seriously... there is a lot of Commanders that just makes you want to flip the table for just being played.... like the Lord of the Rings Commanders...
That last match I feel that you should have attacked with Roxy first, if they lightning strike you or her then you can drop Atraxa, it would have looked like a desperation on your side, but if they hit you, you can use the adventure to gain 2 but they might have just killed Roxy and you could drop atraxa and gain 8. Putting the spell on the stack without any mana open made it easy for them to lightning strike you in response. Also Generous Plunderer is a MAY ability, your greed is what made them get the treasure =p
What do you mean you can drop Atraxa if they lightning strike you? You can't cast creatures in response to instants. Nothing in Seth's hand there can be cast at instant speed, so it's not possible to gain life in response to the lightning bolt. Cornucopia only gains you life when you use its mana to cast a spell, it doesn't just trigger when you tap it. There's no play that Seth can make to live.
@RUclipsChonce Not as an instant. Attacking would have given him a chance to get a meteor and deal 2. They might have used the lightning strike on Roxy thinking he might have something. Then he can drop atraxa to gain 8. I didn't say in response as an instant. But him tapping out to play her have the opponent a free chance without worry.

Do you really think a mythic ranked player would lightning strike a creature to avoid an attack at 20hp when their opponent is at 2hp? There is no winning from this position unless Seth's opponent is literally asleep at the keyboard.

Or if he can lose his creature with the meteor hitting the creature for 2 and then another spell. So it's not as simple as he spell definitely goes face. For instance, if Seth does attack and has a faithless looting for instance. (The opponent doesn't know what's in his hand) and deals 2 damage to the creature with the meteor and gets lightning strike to the face, in response casts the looting, he's at 1. ( only using 1 of the life gain) then casts brotherhood end, killing his creature. Casting other Roxy, now he's back to 3, the opponent took 6 and has nothing on table and only 2 land. Seth stabilized. Too risky for the opponent to take that gamble. Any instant at all in his hand saves him from dying and will win him the game. You can tell the opponent was worried about that by holding the lightning strike and not using it right away.
@@OdinMagnus Absolutely no chance this opponent waits through multiple sorcery speed spells without ever casting the lightning strike in response to the life gain. Casting a sorcery speed spell forces the opponent to lightning strike face or just let Seth stabilize. Yes in your imaginary world where the opponent just lets Seth win, then Seth misplayed by not attacking, but you're honestly just nitpicking. As soon as Seth casts a spell the equation for the opponent becomes "if he has an instant in response to this lightning strike I lose, AND if I let him resolve this spell I lose" therefore lightning strike must be cast. It provides the highest likelihood of winning for the opponent. At that point the opponent has no choice but to "make him have it". No one would make the choice not to cast it in response. The opponent does initially wait to get more information, but as soon as Seth casts something, the best choice is to use lightning strike. It's really silly to imagine that they would lightning strike Roxanne defensively to save a creature after sitting on it to make sure they could respond to the life-gain trigger for lethal. Do you really think a mono red player is holding a burn spell to make sure they can use it defensively when their opponent is sitting at 2hp? There are no better options than lightning strike face when it wins you the game.

Every game in standard looks the same to me now. I don't know if it's the new rotation rules or just the power level of cards now. Kind of boring.

I think mirex is better than seth thinks it is. He almost never plays control so it makes sense he don't like a 1/1 cant block token generator
If I had the wildcards I'd take half of this and half of the Temur Analyst deck and duct tape both to a playset of Mirror Box. Not that I think it'd be any good, but just imagine Doppelganging a Chandra into enough additional Chandras to be guaranteed amongst their +1 and +2 abilities to hit and cast another Doppelgang that then gets copied enough times to do it all again and then burn OPP out with enough Chandra ults. Try to drop a Mirror Box while ramping into Virtue of Strength and the hopefully untap, drop a Chandra, ideally have it copy a Doppelgang at least X=2 and I think, in Magic Christmas Land, we should be good. Also copyingf Roxannes seems pretty fun. What does the esteemed comment section think of this plan? Here's my first idea

Before thunder junction I genuinely won games on mythic by just ramping into doppelgang x=2 turn 4. If you can resolve it above x=1 it is so much value. 2 mana per permanent.
A fun thing I did was loop it by playing meldweb curator and spelunking, and just having the same turn over and over again.
Or just copy ppls vein ripper or phyrexian obliterator. Or sweep their board with their own leyline bindings.
It was fun, but ppl just play too much interaction in bo1 nowadays. Or combo off on turn 4.

Generous Plunderer is insane against my Synthesizer artifact deck, if I don't happen to have removal. I do play Food Fight, though, which lines up well against it if I happen to have it out.

I feel something weird about every janky dopplegang combo when I *know* that for a few years in standard you could just cast Crackle With Power x=4 to win a game the boring way. Between this and the oasis ping deck and other jank I've seen its all sort of ways to turn doppelgang into cracklegang

That last game was painful to watch.
As a Proud owner of a Roxanne Commander Deck, she is an insanely competitive but ultimately casual Commander. Like once she hits the field and starts making mana rocks, you either need to wipe artifacts/tokens from the board or she'll just keep coming back while pinging your board for 2 or more.
Cause Haste(to swing the same turn), Panharmonicon style items, and crazy things that can double or even triple the amount of damage those pings do, exist.

let's not discuss the fact that commander is a casual format. i mean, this goes without saying. and please don't give us "BUT CEDH EXISTS" (which is also effectively an in joke)
@@jamesdrummond7684 . . . It means she's fun to play with cause she can easily give you a win, but not in a way that its a groan fest to fight against, and gets you kicked from the table.
Is it really that hard to comprehend? She's a strong commander, but not one that induces high salt counts. And seriously... there is a lot of Commanders that just makes you want to flip the table for just being played.... like the Lord of the Rings Commanders...

That last match I feel that you should have attacked with Roxy first, if they lightning strike you or her then you can drop Atraxa, it would have looked like a desperation on your side, but if they hit you, you can use the adventure to gain 2 but they might have just killed Roxy and you could drop atraxa and gain 8. Putting the spell on the stack without any mana open made it easy for them to lightning strike you in response.
Also Generous Plunderer is a MAY ability, your greed is what made them get the treasure =p
What do you mean you can drop Atraxa if they lightning strike you? You can't cast creatures in response to instants. Nothing in Seth's hand there can be cast at instant speed, so it's not possible to gain life in response to the lightning bolt. Cornucopia only gains you life when you use its mana to cast a spell, it doesn't just trigger when you tap it. There's no play that Seth can make to live.
@RUclipsChonce Not as an instant. Attacking would have given him a chance to get a meteor and deal 2. They might have used the lightning strike on Roxy thinking he might have something. Then he can drop atraxa to gain 8. I didn't say in response as an instant. But him tapping out to play her have the opponent a free chance without worry.

Considering lightning strike face is an instant win and the opponent is not at all threatened by Roxanne, it would be a HUGE misplay for the opponent to lightning strike a total non-threat to them rather than just hold the lightning strike for lethal. Do you really think a mythic ranked player would lightning strike a creature to avoid an attack at 20hp when their opponent is at 2hp? There is no winning from this position unless Seth's opponent is literally asleep at the keyboard.
@@RUclipsChonce no, because of the opponent goes face and he has anything to respond, he will take 6 and Seth would be alive. Or if he can lose his creature with the meteor hitting the creature for 2 and then another spell. So it's not as simple as he spell definitely goes face. For instance, if Seth does attack and has a faithless looting for instance. (The opponent doesn't know what's in his hand) and deals 2 damage to the creature with the meteor and gets lightning strike to the face, in response casts the looting, he's at 1. ( only using 1 of the life gain) then casts brotherhood end, killing his creature. Casting other Roxy, now he's back to 3, the opponent took 6 and has nothing on table and only 2 land. Seth stabilized. Too risky for the opponent to take that gamble. Any instant at all in his hand saves him from dying and will win him the game. You can tell the opponent was worried about that by holding the lightning strike and not using it right away.
@@OdinMagnus Absolutely no chance this opponent waits through multiple sorcery speed spells without ever casting the lightning strike in response to the life gain. Casting a sorcery speed spell forces the opponent to lightning strike face or just let Seth stabilize. Yes in your imaginary world where the opponent just lets Seth win, then Seth misplayed by not attacking, but you're honestly just nitpicking.
As soon as Seth casts a spell the equation for the opponent becomes "if he has an instant in response to this lightning strike I lose, AND if I let him resolve this spell I lose" therefore lightning strike must be cast. It provides the highest likelihood of winning for the opponent. At that point the opponent has no choice but to "make him have it". No one would make the choice not to cast it in response.
The opponent does initially wait to get more information, but as soon as Seth casts something, the best choice is to use lightning strike. It's really silly to imagine that they would lightning strike Roxanne defensively to save a creature after sitting on it to make sure they could respond to the life-gain trigger for lethal. Do you really think a mono red player is holding a burn spell to make sure they can use it defensively when their opponent is sitting at 2hp? There are no better options than lightning strike face when it wins you the game.
